FREAKIN HILARIOUS!!!!! Loved it. They even threw in "And the meek shall inherit the Earth" from 2112. But then I'm pretty sure Ed at least was a big Rush fan growing up, so it fits.
Awesome seeing Alex play his Gibson ES335. I saw RUSH open for KISS and it was the last time John Rutsey played with RUSH. Alex was playing the ES335 and it was just spectacular sounding!!!! From another ES335 Brother!!!!!!
@@gabbleratchet1890I believe in this video is the guitar he was playing back in 1974. As you can see it is not a white one. I got to talk to Alex this past summer and he signed my original RUSH album with the phrase "To another ES335 brother" because I told him I had one as well. He also said he still had his first ever guitar which was some strange import model that had very high action. Really nice guy if you ever get to meet him.
This song is the musical equivalent of a turducken. It actually starts with "Santa Claus is Coming to Town", then Alex's solo at 1:12, then Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer at 2:00, and THEN Deck the Halls at 2:23, all stuffed into a medley to the tune of War Pigs.
Alex did not play the solo, but he managed to reproduce all Tony's phrasing and tricks. It gave the illusion of a Sabbath Lead. I wonder if they did Sabbath covers before getting to the recording stage.
@@CarmineLombardi-e9fI became a fan of Alex and Rush when I was ten thanks to a friends brothers who were several years older than us and had a band going. I’m fifty eight now and I can’t argue with you on that. The man is an absolute virtuoso and incredibly wide ranging stylistically. Love those volume swells. May he continue with his musical adventure for many years to come.
Alex is in fine form! Wish he and Geddy or someone, would get something going for recording, playing 'live' or what have you. If he wasn't playing so well, I could understand him not being particularly interested!
I don't think the pipes are still functioning for Geddy Lee & we don't want him to be one of those like I don't know maybe Motley Crew or Bon Jovi who did not know when to say no mas . Been listening to Rush since the mid 70s so don't come at me .
@@stevedockeray That's ok, I understand- I used to play with Neil Peart (before Rush, of course) in two bands, one called 'The Majority'. I've met Alex and Geddy a few times at soundchecks and Rush parties. Alex is the nicest guy! Anyway, regarding Geddy's voice, I'm thinking that if he were to do things in a lower register, he might do ok. I think of a song like 'The Larger Bowl' for example, off 'Snakes and Arrows'.
Makes me happy to see Mr. Lifeson playing in any capacity. ❤
I think he's been playing in a new band with a female singer. Don't recall the name.
One of Canada's Knights.
So Glad I got to Rush during R40.
If you are thinking it is YYNOT the answer is no.
Agreed!
@@josephgallagher945 The band is called Envy of None
God bless Canada, Canadian humour and Canadian musicians from Canada with Canadian humour.
Don’t give up your guns
Speaking of Canadian humor, Lerxt looks a lot like Leslie Nielsen now
Alex Lifeson makes everything better. He is awesome!
EVERYTHING!!
He’s like (Canadian) bacon…which makes everything better!!
@@CarlGern-m3o Or as us Canadians call it, ham. Or sometimes back bacon.
Tears streaming down my face!!!! Awesome! Loved it!
Alex looks and sounds great!!!!!!
I was gonna say " where's Ed! " then I saw him on the drums 😳awesome
Merry Lerxstmas! 🎄
Barenaked Ladies always do a great show. It does not matter which songs they play.
I couldn't click on this any faster. Such a perfect pairing. 🤘😍
Nice nod to 2112! Go Alex!
Ohhhhhh Canada we make some pretty damn good music up hear. Merry Christmas everyone.

Double awesome for me personally as my last name is pronounced "meek"!
BNL have covered The Spirit of Radio before!
Effin' brilliant!!
Looked like a fun show. Great job everyone!
So Kool. Feliz Navidad everyone.🎁🎄🧑🎄
At Massey Hall, where Rush recorded “All the Worlds a Stage” in 1976.
Seriously!! Wow. I bet Geddy is in the audience.
Did not know that...thank you for sharing that cool fact!

wow lucky you to have seen that concert... what was that '73 ish ... and at what venue?
@robhasenwinkle 1974 . Centennial Hall in London Ontario. The same place Johnny Cash proposed to June Carter on stage I believe.
@@jamesbond4633 wow cool.
I think the famous “Whitey” was an ES-355TD, not an ES-335.

When did James May join this band?
Utterly fantastic.
Awesome! I didn't know Ed played drums!
Ok good I wasnt losing my mind. I was like "the guy singing doesnt look anything like the guy I remember being the singer before"
I was wondering where Ed was
He's got some chops!
Alex !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Go Tyler.
They did Deck the Halls/War Pigs 10 years ago at Roy Thomson Hall and I completely forgot about that until now! Happy memory unlocked
Wait Tyler is singing (sorry slaying) vocals and ed is bashing on kit??? Cool! Merry fishmas!
Nice to see Alex playing good job boyz.
Merry Christmas Alex
It's December 25..Alex is an atheist. He has a brain and thinks for himself..
@@ubeuonlycalm down, many atheists enjoy celebrating Christmas as a cultural event as Alex does here. Clearly.
A billion and 4 thumbs up. These guys know how to entertain.

Alex sure had that first album guitar tone and style down during his leads.
Awesome!❤
Alex keeps developing chops!
Oh this is fantastic!! 😂❤
Ozzy and Geezer and Tommi and Bill will love this.
Someone has to show this to the Black Sabbath guys, lol. I'm pretty sure Tony Iommi, for example, will have a good laugh and actually enjoy this.
The most Canadian Christmas Special ever.
Two of my favorite bands to watch live - saw Rush live 5 times, BNL twice (Thanksgiving Eve they sang Feliz Thanksgiving!)
Alex has a Lerxst Chi sitting up there! Nice to see he still plays his own custom amps. I love my Chi!
grwat to see Alex out there doing what he loves 👍✌️

Great going men
While he's not playing I love how Alex's left hand looks like it's completely not ready and then it moves with unparalleled precision.

Where's Ed Robertson? Is that him back there playing drums??
Yes! I’m pleasantly surprised he’s pretty good on the kit!

Is that Ed on the drums??
Just a little heaven and hell too.
Alex is looking pretty trim there. Good to see him out and about.
Please Alex and Geddy make more music. Please 😢
Alex playing with BNL? I freaking love it!
OHH WILD!
This needs a studio version
Man, that guy can play.
When I clicked on this, I was hoping it was the God Rest Ye Merry/We Three Kings medley. Now I'm glad it wasn't. Where's Ed? Is that him on the kit?
I was wondering the same thing, but I also think that is Ed on the drums.
Got you for that in my version dewd
Yowp! That's Ed on the skins. I didn't know he had it in him.
Great to see that he hasn't forgotten how to play!
