@@BeatsAndMeats Exactly right. You could find that symphonic patch on quite a few old-school Yamaha effects units. You can get some of them for $50 used.
I've split the bass into two tracks, low-shelving one and high-shelving the other. That way you preserve the low end while being able to experiment with the mid and upper frequencies. It's given me some great results.
The split-bass method is definitely a great way to go, especially with real bass. With programmed bass it's not entirely necessary all the time, but that is a very good mixing technique for sure
I emailed you a song of mine about a year or so ago called "trespasser". I got so much negative feedback that I quit music for a while but I've been back at it again. Got a pretty cool song I'm working on currently. Just ironing things out and then I wanna nail the mix down, even if No one likes it fuck it. It's fun
You can get similar thing by sending your bass to a stereo group with a, something like, 0.250sec room reverb on it,stock cubase is just fine, and hipass up to wherever requency it doesn't sound like it destroys your low end.Blend it in like here.
UA-cam processing NEVER does these demonstrations any justice. You have to go fire up a session and try it out. It's so fucking amazing when you're barely moving a knob and all the sudden, SHBOOM! It's exactly in the space. Maximum sonic efficiency.
Hi Scott, a great trick. I know you are not editing your guitars but can you make a video about editing guitars and phase problems, especially when quad tracking. Thanks
Awesome! Highly recommend this for other genres too. I'll sometimes do a low sub bass, and then a brighter synth up an octave and into microshift. Having wide low mids sounds great.
Man I've been using Decapitator by soundtoys since forever, but never checked this Microshift, it seems a very nice plugin! I love to use chorus and flanger on the bass, sounds huge! Very nice work on this mix dude!
Hi Scott - in light of what is happening right now to your country, I hope you, your family and country men and women keep safe and well. Our thoughts are with you and this despot Putin will never win this idiotic attempt at expansion...hang in there bud...in the long run we will all come through this...he has seriously underestimated your resolve and the rest of world's condemnation. I know these are only words but I hope they give some small support that we are with you.
Sounds badass dude! I'm DEFINITELY trying this out with my PODGO later! I can see the doubler or the dual pitch working in my favor like you have here. Fucking gnarly man!
Yeah, thing with me (see, I am just an a "bushleaguer" of recording at home) is that using every distorsion/drive plugin or psychal pedal in the likes of Sansamp or anything of the sort, that messes with the higher freqs, comes with that nasty "ground noise" always, and filters doest help too much cos those also messes with the overall bass tone. What can I do to solve that? 🥺
Man I couldn't really hear too much of a difference with the micro shift, thinking about grabbing it but I'm not sure it's worth it. I have bx stereo enhancer but the effect seems way too pronounced, if you could only grab one bass related mixing plugin what would it be? I got about 150 bucks I'm willing to part with for a better mix.
I personally put the chorus effect near the end of the chain when any issues in the bass tone have been ironed out so that I'm not exacerbating any bass tone problems, HOWEVER, as always: experiment and see what happens! :)
@@ChernobylAudio666 Cool. I similarly like to add a slight mix of chorus to guitars for the same reason, plus I find it makes pinch harmonics squeal so much easier. I usually put it before distortion, but maybe I should try after
what's with the naysayers? even if your bass composition only follow the root notes of what's being played on guitars you still miss the point especially if you mute the bass track lol.
Microshift is hands down the best Dimnension D plugin ever made and beats out the hardware version by miles. Dont get me wrong Dimension-D/320's do sound amazing.. but its very hit or miss. "The secret Sauce" doen't always go good with everything you put it on. Microshift is like having A chef in your kitchem whippin up that sauce made to order!. Throw some color onto like a little radiator mhm
I know your area of your country has been seized. I have you and the people of your country in my prayers. All the best to you & your family my bruttha✌🙏
Praying for you bro. I know your in the Ukraine. I'm hoping we send troops asap. I know we have 40,000 NATO troops and arms heading to you guys as I type this. Bro if you need anything contact me. I can put together some money so you guys can get the he'll out of there bro.
This trick is from Andy Wallace, great tip and good explanation. thanks
That's the guy! Couldn't recall his name when I was doing the video unfortunately
Not only he won a few times at Le Mans, Daytona and Sebring, he also mixes real good! 😂
Wallace uses the SPX90, Symphonic Preset... I have an updated version, the SPX990 and Holy shit it is magic on bass guitar!

hope you are well and safe bro
Hey Scott, was thinking about you and your family. I really hope you guys are safe. Tell us if we can help you? Take care
Dude how are you? Hope you and your family are safe in this crazy times.
Hopefully everything is allright! Update us on how things are going.
Up until a few years ago I played in local bar bands & I would use a chorus pedal in a similar fashion to thicken the bass & make it appear wider.

Hey Scott I hope you are doing ok over there , I know this topic is not related to your channel but I just hope you are safe! Take care bro!
Hoping you’re ok bro!!!
my best wishes for you and your famliy..hope you are all safe
I hope you and your family are all well!
Always enjoy your lessons. Especially when it deals with bass!

I do both in a busy mix!
I'm so very glad you showed us other Cubase owners what to do if we don't have the Soundtoys plugin
You better be making your way through this.
Hope all is well man.

Keep safe buddy I hope you and your family are all okay 👍
Nice! Working on a punk record. Just automated this on all the choruses. Really helped

Hey I hope all is well 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
And thank you for explaining that trick with Cubase chorus! 🤘🤘
Wow, that was great, thank you very much!

In theory you could also use proq3 with Microshift, to make all the side bass go away, and mix microshift as much as you want
Love this shit. ive added a few of your recording/mixing tip videos to my (best of) saved list. \m/

Someone watches alot of propaganda
A good example is the song Tombstone by Sodom. I love that bass tone
Mercuriall free chorus plugin. You're welcome! Great video.
That's another way, too!

Andy Wallace is the oldest dude I've seen do this. I wonder if he was the originator or if multiple people came across the same thing over the years
That's such a thicc loop

It sounds great, mostly for choruses.
Would it be better to use the chorus before the distortion so that you’re chorusing the clean signal rather than the distortion?
I personally put the chorus effect near the end of the chain when any issues in the bass tone have been ironed out so that I'm not exacerbating any bass tone problems, HOWEVER, as always: experiment and see what happens! :)

Digging the beard. With my mustache and goatee , I have the natural markings of a skunk. LoL.
niiiiiceeeeeeee, maaan 😀
Ok.But what if i don't have this plugin? How to do it without Saundtoys plugin?

Overloud still has their Gem Mod for free to my knowledge, which I think is based on the same hardware chorus except the Gem Mod is way more tweakable

It's it's very obvious on my earbuds. Makes the guitar sound heavier too
Great tip, thanks for sharing this. Aren't you in the Ukraine?
Hey, you still in Ukraine? Hope you're all safe

Nice video! Georgia is by your side man, slava Ukrainu!
andy wallace use chorus bass, maybe is a rip off from him
Probably!
I don't want to be in a band that has a Bass sound like that... There is nothing bass about it.
what

here again to say a huge thank you for this one too!
