You should also flip them inside-out when you wash them, especially in the washing machine. I found that the less you touch the dye, the longer the color last.
Excellent tips. I have definitely NOT been washing my jeans right. Also, I really appreciated how Dorian asked the “dumb” questions. It allowed Ashley to really get in the details of the process very well. Keep it up you two! Outstanding work!
*I've always washed my jeans after 2 all-day wearings. I wash them in the machine with only a little liquid detergent. If they're new, I dryer dry them once, just to get past the shrinkage. After that, they're line dried. I also take an iron to my dried jeans which helps to smooth the finish of the denim -- and I might put in a "soft crease" if I'm going to wear them to the office on Friday. *BTW ... this may seem weird but I want to give kudos to Kmart for their line of "Basic Editions" jeans. I have two pair of the black tapered-leg jeans and they're great fit, good wear-ability (partly due to the lighter-weight denim). And only $11 - $15 bucks per pair! Great for starving artists like me. But be sure to try them on before buying ... sometimes the sizing label is not so accurate.
Great advice I’ve actually wash my jeans in wool light and hang dry them and they were well preserved. And you are right I have actually destroyed jeans by putting them in the dryer. Even on low heat they’re not the same it’s best to just hang them and let them air dry. I forgot about the wool light for dark clothes I’ll remember to use that next time.
I only wash Raw denim when it starts to smell (once a year). I'll do a cold bath w/ a soft soap like Dr Bronners. Alternatively, I will flip them inside out, and lay them in the sun for a few hours. Let the UV rays disinfect. Or I'll do the Freezer method too. BTW: Freezing doesn't kill all bacteria, but it kills a lot. For shoes, I have a device (SteriShoe+) that is shaped like a shoe-tree, but it's a UV light that penetrates deep into the leather and disinfects. Believe it or not it actually works.
Hi Ashley, one of my tailor told me, when washing for first time, soak clothes in salty cold water for 30 minuets. To protect its color. Try it for the next video.
Hey could you guys do like a full video on washing jeans and like how to do it? I’ve been watching other videos about taking care and washing your jeans and people have different ways on washing them. So could you, if that’s fine, do a video on washing jeans and how you do it? That would be lovely, thanks! 😊
Great vid, thanks for asking the seemingly obvious questions Dorian. The answers are not always as obvious to some one like myself as they possibly should be.
Keeping pumping out honest content, we are tired of the other nonsense thrown out from the big 3. Every time I come here I know you believe in the products and anything said.
Is that a serious question, jeans are meant to be rugged casual wear. All it will do is dry them quicker which is good. Remember, indigo denim was originally used for workwear.
On the inside you will often find some thin nylon/ polyester fabric labels the moment you see a bit of damage ( usually on the knee ) cut of that label and stick it with some flexible glue on the inside behind that damage to prevent the fabric been torn apart.
excellent tips. i would like to add that in my country india, where the sun is very brightly normally reverse the jeans before putting it to dry otherwise the colours tend to fade
i have a pair of jeans consisted of 9% elastine and polyester.. i have it for about 3 months now.. wash it reguraly like all my jeans and tumble dry it like all of my jeans and havent noticed any difference like all of my other jeans with are 100& cotton prewashed jeans...why is that...i dry them in very ligh programm..do you think there is still time to save my new pair of jeans?
Thanks for sharing. Can you help me..... I work in a workshop andy jeans get quite dirty, I have everything from grease, oils and other dry dirt. I usually soak them in detergent overnight and wash them in morning.... That gets them clean alright but leaves them rough and itchy..... Can you suggest a alternative , thankyou.
Wash them first in cold water inside out, definitely add 1 cup of vinegar to the rinse cycle. ➡️ or soak them 30 minutes or overnight with vinegar then wash in cold inside out. Good luck!
Denim was initially designed and intended not to be washed frequently. Washing them just degrades them a LOT. I just wash mine once they are too stained or stinky to wear anymore. I learned the hard way by wasting many pairs by over washing.
I used to do that though not as long as a month. Probably a week. I'd use one jeans for a week (of course alternately with other pants for work) and then have them in a laundry for the weekend. But since the pandemic, we got all paranoid with the virus. I started to use one denim jeans for one time and then put them in the laundry basket after.
Just wondering is there anyway to prevent the stretch jean getting expanded only after half a year of wearing them?? I normally wash it after 3 to 2 times of wearing them..
Interesting and thought provoking video but I thought that jeans were meant for rugged casual wear, so why all the fussing. All I do is check the washing instructions and machine wash them inside out initially. I then pull them to shape after taking them out of the machine before hanging them outside on a washing line to dry, or over a clothes horse if I have to dry them indoors; they usually keep their shape if they are a decent brand.
Geoffrey W couldn’t agree more. And best tips, buy a cheap one so that you can buy a new one again. To me, they are the items very hard to tell the value.
Wow washing your jeans two to four times a year is gross.. here in Italy we wash them every three or four time of use. I’ve still some jeans from ten years ago perfectly fine, can’t believe you really wash them so rarely
Faris Omar Freezing jeans is a myth as what i had come across. For us in Malaysia living in hot humid rainy weather is impossible to wash infrequently, unless one never expose the jeans to elements and not sweating wearing it. Actually all clothing fabric lifespan get shorter each time we wash them.
I never twist my denim because that makes you loose indigo also that will give you verticle fade lines or unatural fade lines or a marbling efect. Also I hang my pants with s hooks by the belt loops so they dry naturaly and it works for me.
Hello Jackie, I don't have two freezers either; I was just joking and being sarcastic. Putting jeans and shoes in a freezer is one of the most absurd things I have ever heard.
It’s hot here in South Texas. 9/12 months it’s probably 90 degrees at least. Even when you wear jeans casually going around town or going to class you’re bound to sweat, it seems disgusting only washing them once every 2-4 months
Do not put wet jeans in the dryer but the dryer will be better for killing the bacteria from your skin that’s transferred from your body to your jeans. Under 20 minutes tops! The cold from your freezer will neutralize smell to the extent your denim will absorb new odors from your jeans but this does not kill bacteria. I keep them in for 3 days.
In denmark we have hard ground water not good for wash without dryer. but if you dry them outside in your garden the wind will soften them or your normal wash, and it smells fresh.
Good video as usual. Thanks for the tips. Also thanks for going back to natural looking light set up. The super warm lighting was👎🏾. Every week Dorian is introduced by a different title 😂. How about simply: I'm (celebrity stylist) Ash & this is Dorian of AWX... Keep up the good content
Oh gosh I’d be scared to wring them! I usually press them to get the excess water out, then lay my clothes flat on a towel, roll it up then step on it.
🙏Namaste .. guys .. I'm Aniruddha from India , we have a very hot & too humid weather in here during summer & also heavy rain. So, how do we take care of our denim in summer time and rainy season?? Please suggest me ¿¿ But we have a very good cold winter time from October to mid of March .. please give me some tips 🙏🙏
Dorian, perhaps you might wanna wear lighter coloured frames? you have pale lips and a very fair complexion. the darker frame just accentuates the paleness of your lips. also, i'm pretty sure you don't have to ask rhetorical questions since you already know her answers all to well :p

qadrik I agree!
This is the best music. I love this one on UA-cam videos. Feels so 90s local getaway shows on the weekend.
I wash mine inside out . Cold water delicate cycle. Then tumble dry on the cold setting.
My Jean's start to smell after like 3 wears... I cant imagine what it would be like after months
Dareghost
What are you doing with them? Work?
Get 5-6 pair
It’s ur jeans , it’s ur well spent money. I just dump to washing machine and dryers. Who cares ? It last more than 8 years. Perhaps it’s Levi’s 501.
Put them in the freezer overnight to get rid of smells instead of washing often

You try it first - water and salt and tell as
I love your editing style! Nice, crisp, clean, and modern as opposed to the flashy/clickbaity style of other channels.
Yes, this intro works wonders! Just Dorian. Plain, simple, non complicated, professional ! 😃✌🏻

great video! don't forget to wash your jeans inside out to prevent color fading
Does that actually work?
Please make a video about taking care of chinos..... Also I wanted to ask if we should iron jeans.....???
Dorian's comedic timing is always on point lol

M A Alpha M is at least more honest. I get it though, she completely knows what she’s talking about.
I'm what I would consider a newb and I'd guess the big 3 are TMF, AM and RMRS. How did I do?
M A If by the Big 3 you meant RMRS, ALPHA M AND TMF then Screw you they're much more awesome than this Ashley girl she Sucks
M A okay this video is an exception it's kinda good
LOOOOL the same big 3 who put a random sponsored advert mid video.
Got to wash those jeans inside out (:
Joe B 😁😁😁😂😂😂😂😂
Hi Ashley and Dorian, great video. Any issues with hang drying your jeans outside? Would you want to avoid direct sunlight?
Is that a serious question, jeans are meant to be rugged casual wear. All it will do is dry them quicker which is good. Remember, indigo denim was originally used for workwear.
What a great video; him asking plenty of FAQs is something I think every tutorial or educational video such as this should include.
Talk about PERFECT TIMING just yesterday, I purchased a pair of jeans J Brand as a matter of fact.
On the inside you will often find some thin nylon/ polyester fabric labels
the moment you see a bit of damage ( usually on the knee )
cut of that label and stick it with some flexible glue on the inside
behind that damage to prevent the fabric been torn apart.
I thought that distressed jeans were all the fashion now.
Idk about this. I wash mine about every 3 wears max. I do use cold water and delicate setting but I also dry them. Been working fine.
Turn them inside out too before washing. Helps to preserve the color .
Same here ....I wash them once every month
if you are not a denimhead and dont care about the fading it's fine.
Please I want to know about adding vinegar and salt is useful or not
Thanks
Do you wash your jeans before the first wear then wait to wash for a couple of months or do you not wash them before the first wear
This was so helpful! I just bought Levi’s 501 jeans and I stressing out how I was going to clean them😅
Appreciate it, just got a killer pair of raw denim and I want these to last
excellent tips. i would like to add that in my country india, where the sun is very brightly normally reverse the jeans before putting it to dry otherwise the colours tend to fade
So what do you think of Wrangler and LL Bean? Also, if you are wearing jeans to work outdoors they need to be washed.
Wow, I've wondering how to take care of my jeans for awhile now. This helps a lot! Keep it up you two!
Can I wash my jeans using automatic washing machine? What setting should it be? Thanks
i have a pair of jeans consisted of 9% elastine and polyester.. i have it for about 3 months now.. wash it reguraly like all my jeans and tumble dry it like all of my jeans and havent noticed any difference like all of my other jeans with are 100& cotton prewashed jeans...why is that...i dry them in very ligh programm..do you think there is still time to save my new pair of jeans?

Any tips for denim bleeding?
Wash them first in cold water inside out, definitely add 1 cup of vinegar to the rinse cycle. ➡️ or soak them 30 minutes or overnight with vinegar then wash in cold inside out. Good luck!
Man I cannot resist washing them after a few wears 4-5 ..
I'm with you. I hand wash my black coloured jeans after every 3-4 wears.
I do too. I use my jeans a complete week and wash them at the end. At least twice a month. Is that bad?
@@oilwings Then the colour of your jeans will fade sooner.
@@Noa...... I have come to the conclusion that I replace my jeans every 9 months. Black jeans last about that time period.
@@oilwings A bit wasteful for an expansive piece of clothing, don't you think?
I am so early today ✌ Thanks for sharing such Tips :)
So would you be able to put more than one pair of jeans together when you are washing them in a bath tub?
what about distressed jeans, how do you keep the distressing from ruining
I'm desperately needing a new pair of Glasses.. would love to see a guide! Fitting, style, etc. Cheers.
Can you put your Raw jeans in the wash on delicate? And how do you know what type of jeans you have if you didn't check when you bought them?
Great video. Went straight to my Favorites list.
Like the content you guys producing lately ! Keep up the good job :)
How to care for Chinos?

Hi guys. I Like the jeans!
Wow washing your jeans two to four times a year is gross.. here in Italy we wash them every three or four time of use. I’ve still some jeans from ten years ago perfectly fine, can’t believe you really wash them so rarely
Too right and putting them in the freezer, what's that all about?
I live in malaysia. I washed them after 1-2 day use. I cant imagine wearing same jeans for 2-4 months.
Faris Omar Freezing jeans is a myth as what i had come across.
For us in Malaysia living in hot humid rainy weather is impossible to wash infrequently, unless one never expose the jeans to elements and not sweating wearing it.

You're speaking only for non-enthusiasts.
Enthusiasts all around the world don't wash for a looong time.
I never twist my denim because that makes you loose indigo also that will give you verticle fade lines or unatural fade lines or a marbling efect. Also I hang my pants with s hooks by the belt loops so they dry naturaly and it works for me.
Dumb question, if you put shoes in the freezer to remove smell. Is the shoes together with the others freeze food?
I have two freezers, one for food and the other for my shoes and clothes; doesn't everybody?
Sadly, being newly exposed to this, I don't have 2 freezer.
Hello Jackie, I don't have two freezers either; I was just joking and being sarcastic. Putting jeans and shoes in a freezer is one of the most absurd things I have ever heard.
You're so pretty Ashley!
Can I was them in water alone? Because I think the detergent helps to fade the colour
I like to hang dry mine then put them in the dryer no heat with a softener sheet
Veryful helpful thank you so much!
Is dryer with no heat, ok?
How do you iron jeans without causing them to fade?
Awesome a channel! Glad I found it!
Nice one Ash and Dorian
Oooooooooooo my god i washed my jeans every two( 2 )days till i saw this video! Thank god i knew it soon!
It’s hot here in South Texas. 9/12 months it’s probably 90 degrees at least. Even when you wear jeans casually going around town or going to class you’re bound to sweat, it seems disgusting only washing them once every 2-4 months
I wouldn't ring them out. It'll mess up the fades. Also don't wash for at least 6 months.
agree, was thinking the same.
I thought that (about the ringing out) too. Was staggered actually that was their advice for raw denim
Correct!
thanks a lot for this video..♡♡
Omg I’m so dumb I’ve been washing my shorts every time I wear it 🤦♀️ that’s why there so creased 🥺
Hey you!
I've had a sneaking suspicion that Dorian is a robot and that intro only supports that suspicion.
If you’re gonna wash your jeans in a washing machine, turn them inside out. That keeps washing fade lines from appearing.
Why not the dryer? After mine air dry, I put, them in a short period of time to soften them,up.
How come when ever I air dry my jeans they get all hard and feels uncomfortable to wear

Very informative...
What happens if one put the jeans in the dryer?
best jeans bar none, are Jacob Cohen... 100% made in Italy with Japanese and other fine denim... most of them made in very limited numbers
How will i remove strain
What will we people do staying in the gulf region were water is burning hot

You two are a cute couple; I'm happy for you.
What? Don't put your jeans in the freezer. Freezing bacteria doesn't kill it. And most freezers are only set at 0° F.
It saves space in the wardrobe I guess lol.
Haha! The opening is quite droll! You do make a "meant for each other" pair. BTW, have you heard of Dorian Gray?
i like dorian made it real specific
