    Thanks for all your helpful input Gary. I'm still waiting for my Mason vertical kit to arrive but your vids have enabled me to download everything in readiness for the arrival of the sloow boat from China next month

    All the answers in one place. This will make it very easy for those taking this route. Great work 👍

      More solar and battery storage = less fossil fuels burned. I'm well ahead on my green credits now
      I planned to add the battery in this video to my system yesterday, but a sore back has delayed me. I'm running fine with just one battery for now anyway. Battery number 2 will have to wait. I'll add that video as soon as I shoot it.

    Great video Gary, Looking forward to see how you link these 2 batteries together. That will be a very large battery bank!

      @@alanslattery5954 I suspect I will end up with 3 battery banks. Also looking forward to adding this one. Tonight is the first time my battery has run out to 10%, so is effectively empty for the next 2 hours while I draw (thankfully minimal) expensive power from the grid.

      @@GaryMeatsLife Are you planning to export these batteries back into the grid for FIT or have capacity to put more into your EVs ? Seems like a very large capacity for a domestic house ?

    • @GaryMeatsLife
      @GaryMeatsLife  3 місяці тому +1

      @@alanslattery5954We use around 15,000kWh per year. Some of this goes into the EVs. The battery storage is to avoid peak rate price outside of the cheap 2am-6am slot which is when I charge the EVs and home battery.
      I export only excess solar, but when summer comes back around, I expect to be able to dump the about 15kWh into the grid before charging back up at lower rates.
      My usual bill each 2 months is €600-€800. For August, due to solar export, my bill amount for the month is less than €50 (excluding standing charges). Pretty happy to see that.

      @@alanslattery5954Also the EV batteries are 40kWh and 60kWh respectively. It wouldn’t make sense charging a home battery pack only to put that energy into EV batteries later. The transfer losses alone would make it unwise to do.

    Gary, I have just spoken to Seplos about changing the Power supply SOC (%) it is set to 96%.
    This is their response,
    This is an intermittent charging function. When the battery is fully charged and the SOC is lower than 96%, the battery can be charged.
    So setting it to 100% would make your charger work harder.

    • @GaryMeatsLife
      @GaryMeatsLife  2 місяці тому

      The pack charge voltage is set lower in the studio for the settings I have shown, so 100% is not 100% max voltage in reality. I am playing it safe, but 96% setting was just a redundancy if all other settings were left as default. These are the settings I found worked best for me. Other settings may work better for others. Seplos themselves make SW changes and settings changes to optimise packs.

    Hi Gary
    I have 3 seplos 280a, connected to a bussbar, discharge from inverter, no com. Cable connected,it draws from only one battery from 98 to 67% , another 2 still remains 98% . Please tell me how that happened.
    Again, I am new to this field, very new! I always learn from you every step. Thank you so so much!

    • @GaryMeatsLife
      @GaryMeatsLife  2 місяці тому

      The batteries need to be able to communicate with eachother, otherwise only one battery talks to the inverter and the other ones are paper weights. So, you need to connect them via the RS485 ports. The busbar is a good idea which I intend to implement in some fashion, but watch my other video about connecting the batteries together. You need only pay attention to the comms part of the video.

    Hi Gary, I recently installed a new SSD on my computer, download seplos BMS v.3, but can't open the folder, please let me know if I need to install a drive to operate it? And what type of drive? Thank you and very much appreciated your kind support.

    • @GaryMeatsLife

      Start from scratch. Delete any reference to BMS Studio on your PC. Log into your Seplos account. Download BMS Studio and do as you did before. Mine is on the C Drive, which is an SSD.

    Overvoltage is too low, your batteries will never balance with those settings. Overvoltage is 56/16=3.5v, this is too low.
    And you'll be cutting it before it reaches your balancing voltage.

    • @GaryMeatsLife
      @GaryMeatsLife  Місяць тому +1

      You are correct that it's too low for the active balancer to do its job. Truth is I only realised this yesterday and my batteries are balanced only because I manually hit the balance buttons when the cells were at 98% or higher and there was still charge going into them. My cells were only 11mV out after a month, but what is the point of an active balancer if it's not going to be used properly, right?
      I just collected my third battery case a couple of hours ago and will be building another battery very soon. Unfortunately, Fogstar sent the accessories for a Version 4 system, so I will have to wait for them to send the correct accessories pack to me before I can build the new battery 😪 .
      When I do that, I'll probably leave this video live, but edit the title and put my updated settings in the description.

    Hi Mark, I have just tying to connect my BMs with laptop. Have an USB adapter and want to make an RJ45 wiring. So, can you tell me which two cables in order are data strings? I think the N1 and N2, am I right?

      @@GaryMeatsLife :), I wanted to ask you the RJ45 wiring order, since I have other cable colors in my RJ45 connector. So, which Nr. is your orange and which Nr. the white one in the RJ45 connector. I think that the RJ45 N1 and N2 are by standard the DATA cables in the RS485 connector. Yeah, T568B, and the white in fact should be white/orange and twisted with orange...and in standard, that is N.1 and N.2. OK, that is.

      Standard RJ45 CAT6 used. (T568B)
      Orange = Pin 2 to A+
      White/Orange = Pin 1 to B-
      White/Blue = Pin 5 to GND

      Hi Gary
      Thank you soso much for helping, very simple, practical instructions, better than Seplos, much much better!!! I had Seplos battery same as you,280ah, when you set parameter to 305amp from default 290amp,can you tell me the reason? Thank you.

    • @GaryMeatsLife
      @GaryMeatsLife  2 місяці тому

      @@banhvo4958 Hi. The parameter needs to be set to what your Ah is. It could be 280, 290, 304, 305, 315 etc etc. It will say it on the side of one of the cells. Ignore the case name (280Ah) and use the actual cell capacity in the parameter settings.
