Good overview. One bad info: dividends are paid out to you (not to Schwab), you then direct Schwab to reinvest which means you'll pay taxes (albeit at a lower "qualified" dividends rate, i.e. at LTCG rate).
You are correct. Not sure why I thought if you were automatically re-investing that you would be able to avoid taxes, lol. Thanks for the comment!

Reinvestment does not, however, let you avoid paying taxes on dividends; you must report reinvested dividends as dividend income.

Stop the misinformation! People are making miIIions trading. If i must tell you, i make a very good pasive income weekly trading.
Everyone mustn't be a "Pro trader" you can simply copy-trade "Sandra Yvonne Webster" being doing that for a couple of years now and no regrets. She was in the news alot in 2019 and she's really good and quite popular. Do your own research!

I talked to a financial planner from Fisher who told me that for my income level I'm better off using Charles Schwab and he recommended purchasing ETFs synched to the S&P 500; because that's what he personally does. I opened my account and was a little bit overwhelmed but your video is great! Thanks again!

i have used Schwab a for 2 years.... Your tutorial taught me things I did not know.... The settings to change the order of stocks and etf in terms of performance and then back to size of positions .... back and forth makes Schwab more useful.... New topic. Schwab has helped me place Limit Stop orders on stocks.... the Stop Limit orders got me out of the market in the March crash..... I waited and then bought back in....... up 45 to 55 % in just 5 months.... so the thing I would like to say is Schwab as people willing to talk to you for over a half hour or more to make sure you know what you are doing. a

Informative video, thanks. If you are considering Schwab, I give them the highest praise for amazing customer service! I love being able to chat with someone via a small window while getting other stuff done. Other brokerages sometimes have terrible customer service. Some places only sell you their mutual funds, no reason to invest with those companies these days. Also, the Schwab "Street smart edge" software is free and brilliant! I absolutely love it, and wouldn't want to invest and research without it. So customizable, and I love how I type the ticker in once, and then that ticker will appear in several windows with the info I want about each stock. It looks complex, but it doesn't have to be.
Also, you should read about how the share price changes slightly when the dividend pays out. I used to think what you thought about timing my purchase of a dividend-paying stock, but it is far less of a factor than you think. I'm no expert, just trying to be helpful.

Is it possible to have different views for positions , one for stick and another for options, and also I could not find Sort columns where you can move the order of columns as you did in your video. Am I missing in the current site, I like to arrange order of columns as they appear horizontally, of course I can sort them

Thanks for the video as this was the best preview that I have found of what to expect when my account is moved from the TD Amertrade platform. I personally refrain from dividend re investments as your number of shares increase when dividends get paid but at the same time if the stock goes down so does what you have earned in dividends. I have done it and came out on the loosing end so never again. I prefer to use my dividends to buy other stocks.
Thank you! I signed up for Vanguard years ago to be an index investor. Switched to being a dividend growth investor and have stayed with Vanguard but wondered about Schwab all along. This is helpful. Much better.

I've been using Schwab as my main brokerage for trading shares for almost a year now and I've loved it! No complaints. I actually opened my account last year right when they announced $0 commissions.
That was a good move by them! I'm guessing they have gained a lot of clients since moving to $0 commissions!

Hi Jake, very informative and simple to follow. Curiously, I did a spot check on one of the stocks you were showing in your portfolio positions, and at about minute 3:15 you describe owning only one share of SHW ($417), which, according to the Ex-Dividend column dates, this would have a timestamp sometime between mid-November 2019 to mid-February 2020 (assuming quarterly dividend payout). Looking at SHW's performance over the past five years, the high of $339 was recorded in Dec 2021. I could not find an event (e.g., stock split) that might account for the $417 price at the timeframe that your video was recorded. What am I missing? Love your channel, just need some help connecting some dots. Thanks!
Just a few recommendations. You might want to add blockchain exposure...ICE, SBNY, CBSH, and ARKK. Also, BLL is in the bulletproof category much like Sherwin-Williams. Good stuff. I’m buying a lot of Pre-IPO...Cloudastructure. Over the next month I’m dropping $150k into Pre-IPOs. Go big or go home.

Schwab’s research and educational tools are first class. I have brokerage accounts with Schwab, M1, and Fidelity. I employ different strategies on each platform. I first became familiar with Schwab through my company’s 401(k) program. They’re the administrator. Their planning tools are also great to help you see how your money can grow and to project out various scenarios. I’m a big fan of Schwab.
Hey Roderick! yep, Schwab is not paying me to make these videos, lol. I just have tried some of the other discount brokerages like Robinhood and I'm good with going with Schwab. I can see myself using them for the rest of my life.

Is there a trading fee for OTC/penny stocks?
Hello Mr. jake i have Robinhood and I love it for how concise it is even kids can navigate it but unfortunately it’s limited can’t trade otc’s and most penny stocks so I had to get fidelity and td ameritrade which i find very confusing it’s not like Robinhood so my question how ez it is like clear and to the point. Does it charge anything for trading and how long does it take for ur funds to be available for trading, td and fidelity takes 4 days plz let me know thanks

Hey Jake, great video as always. Schwab is my broker of choice as well. I have yet to take advantage of all they they have to offer, but I find their mobile app easy to use to check on my portfolio or execute a trade while at work.
Yep! I feel like the mobile app is just fine. I personally like being on a desktop because I like taking my time and double checking everything, but I would be fine using the mobile app. Cheers!

I have a question about portfolio(s). Essentially, I want to manage and track different portfolios - Dividend Portfolio, Long Term Stick holdings, Index Mutual Funds, swing/day trading, and so on.
Can you set up “sub-portfolios” within your Schwab Brokersge account?
I have never done this, but you might be able to call Schwab and open multiple brokerage accounts with them. These use your different accounts on their platform for different purposes.
Is this a good platform for daytrading?
About time to signup for Charles Schwab and the personal Platinum, put some of these Amex points to work during the market correction! I'm hoping they revamp the Bus Green, otherwise I'm axing the Bus Platinum.
Yep, I am only going to cash out my AmEx points to my schwab brokerage account from now on. I am happy with my 1.25 cents per point rate. I can't really travel anyways...

Is there a way to do a Night Mode on Schwab? A lot of sites today have this ability so that your screen isn't so blinding, they do this by making the background a darker color like black for instance. I'm fairly light sensitive so staring at a white screen all day makes my eyes very fatigued and can lead to headaches. Thank you in advance if you answer this considering I'm commenting on a video that is now over a year old. Great information in this one for someone who's shopping brokers. I do want to get into day trading but seeing as my funds are fairly limited I want to play the OTC/Penny stocks for right now and Schwab offers those where as Webull doesn't really at this time...

Hey man thank you so much for your videos they helped me tremendously. I just wanted to drop a quick message for others on here. I had been using my Schwab brokerage account for about a month and a half now and was doing fairly well as a beginner. They are currently building a Schwab bank near my home so I decided to apply for the checking account to place my stimulus check in. After the hard inquiry on my credit report I was declined due to my current credit score which I have been rebuilding (around a 600). I understood that completely, however I was informed a few days later that my brokerage account was being closed because of my score and had to sell my positions :( I love the Schwab platform and will probably get back into it in the future when I have boosted my score some, but if there's any beginners like me seeing this don't make the mistake I did. im about to turn 18 and start using schwab, i dont have a credit score, am i not allowed to use schwab?
That's terrible to hear DJ! I can't comprehend it. People do not need credit scores to open and put money in savings accounts. Schwab is a brokerage bank, so they must be operating under separate rules than a normal commercial bank, but that's terrible. I recommend opening a secured credit card with Discover and then start re-building your credit. Should be pretty good in a year with online, full payments!
@@JakeBroe my plans exactly with the discover card. The only explanation they would give me about closing my brokerage account when I called them was, "This is a business decision we have to make based on our policies." And also I was seen as high risk. They welcomed me to try apply again once I boosted my score a bit, though.
