I believe it. I was there the day before, last Tuesday, and it was whiteout / blizzard conditions at the top of Siberia. I fell several times because I couldn't see, and have been skiing for 20+ years

This resort is rated as the most avalanche dangerous in America

This should never happen in bounds the resort is 💯 responsible

Yes I feel all the reporting around this is really failing to hold the resort responsible. The people caught in the avalanche should get a very nice settlement out of this. If I want to worry about avalanches I will ski in the back country and do the checks myself.

Yep, still bushes showing probably thought not enough snow to even bother blasting there snow also hadn't settled yet.

@@michaelshu332 idk, I think that ultimately they lose in court but the threat of legal fees will let them get a settlement but definitely not "very nice".
this would be a lawsuit in bad faith as you agree to not be holding the resort responsible and are accepting the risks when you purchase a lift ticket.

Skiing is inherently dangerous. The philosophy for patrolling is to make all inbounds terrain as safe as possible. Snow science is still a big area of research. There will always be inbounds avalanches even with all the bombs ski patrol can throw at it. It's just the way it is people need to be more aware of risks.

so many BS comments here from those always looking to blame someone. You want safe then stay home and wrap yourselves in cotton wool because those working on avalanche safety are dealing with the elements not your woke BS minds.

IT WAS IDEAL AVALANCE CONDITIONS WHEN THESE PEOPLE WENT SKIING.

That's on the resort. They shouldn't have the terrain open if they have not cleared it for the day. They chose to keep it open because they knew the risk was low and they don't want to lose money by keeping large parts of the resort closed.
