  • A short video about Using CO2 Cartridges to Seat Scooter Tire Beads.
This is a great method of quickly and easily seating the beads on a scooter tire in the field. If you have access to a powerful air compressor by all means use that. It will be easy and less expensive. But, if you are in the middle of nowhere and have to change a tire, CO2 cartridges will give you the large volume of air quickly that you need to seat the tire beads. Small portable compressors just don't have the umph to do the job.

If the tire is lubed properly (tire soap, etc.) you can usually get the tire to seat with a low-flow, cheap 12v compressor. Sometimes takes a bit of jostling the tire bead at the margin but it's usually possible.

I have never had any luck seating the bead on 10 and 12" Vespa tires using a 12v compressor. But, this works every time. Again, I only do this when I don't have access to a full size compressor.

Alternative Seating method is to use a ratchet strap or something that can squeeze it down like zipties or whatever to go around the tire along side the rubber (the rubber that touches ground when you drive). use dish soap along the edge of tire so it can slide / seal better. i did this using a air compressor and remove the valve stem and use a air compressor blower gun attachment to get it to seat then switched back to the normal tire filling attachment.

yeah ive never used the co2 method - it may require some playing around with which is why having a compressor with infinite air is good. you can get some smaller ones for cheap too. @@winniepeg2020

Going to order one now. Out of frustration I used starter fluid and exploded the tire onto the rim. Stupid and dangerous but I was at the end of my rope. I do not recommend.

@@winniepeg2020 Did you remove the valve to allow faster airflow? Once the tire popped into place your can screw it back in and reinflate to the proper pressure.

You installed a Michelin city grip 2 !!!! Yes. I'm installing a new pair of Michelin city grip 2 size 13 and 14 on my 2022 Honda adv150. Along with new valves and balance with the y balancing method. Great video. Where did you buy your tires ? I had to order a from wps avid motorsports and the other from great Britain. I just can't believe it, no one sells the size I need. Thank you cousin from across the pond.
