I have an idea for a challenge. You start with basic Amateur and after you find the ghost, you spin a wheel with all the custom difficulty settings (Starting Sanity, Player Speed, Ghost speed, Grace Period, etc...) and you turn them to the hardest mode. Example, you spin and get Player Speed, you will then make it the slowest. If next spin and you get Ghost Speed, you turn it to the max. Im not great with explaining things but I hope you understand XD
OR you randomize every choice instead of randomizing the actual choice and going to the max with it. Like: Player speed - randomize, pick what it gives you (slow, normal, fast). Ghost speed - randomize, pick what it gives you, etc etc
the funniest amateur games are where an aggresive ghost acts like a passive ghost and it just throw you off and sort of teaches you a demon may not always wanna kill you
On the POV of the investigator, Insanity is their rookie era where they do not know yet what are they doing, hence the harder to look for evidence, easier to drain sanity (getting more scared). But Amateur mode is their professional era where the countdown timer is actually their average speed for finding out ghost, with all evidences, etc.
9:07 this is so funny to me because the first card i managed to draw when using tarot was the hanged man, now you can imagine why i wouldn't use the tarots again
i play nightmare. i think the game gets very boring when all you have to do is get the 3 evidences. i like reading the abilities of the ghosts and then trying to find out the right one from 4 options.
Same but having tier 1 equipment for nightmare sucks, especially the spirit box and dots even the emf sometimes shows emf 5 for ghosts which are not emf 5 Making the switch from pro to nightmare is so much more fun
I would love to play Nightmare but I play with my family who aren't as skilled with the game as I am and I don't have any friends to play with so I'm stuck with lackluster Professional.
I usually play on Professional. It's a good mid point between hard and easy. The ghost isn't too aggressive and gives you all information but it also isn't easy mode and the chance of you dying is still there. It's just a nice middle ground.
It took me so long to be comfortable with the game and now I almost only play nightmare mode! Hunts and ghost events used to scare the shit out of me but luckily I can manage them now
As a new player, literally the first tarot card I pulled was the death card. I knew what it meant but that didn't stop me from dying. I haven't used the tarot cards since lmao
My first time playing i had a board but i tried to do the funny pickle meme and forgot that the board drains sanity. Long story short, i got destroyed by a wraith right beside a hiding spot
I think that what the difference in the difficulty really comes down to is how much time you have to faff about before you are actually in danger of dying to a hunt under normal circumstances. Set up phase, sanity drain rate, frequency of Ghost events, and theoretically how much time it could take for someone to deduce what the ghost is - you're spending more time and even willingly triggering hunts to get a bead on the ghost's behavior since you only get partial evidence on Nightmare and Insanity.
Nightmare mode as a beginner: "Do not do this!" A random person I started playing multiplayer with. "Let's get you up to nightmare!" 2 professional runs. And then only nightmare one after the other hahaha. I learned sooooo much in so little time. I say do go for it as a "beginner" (like, 15-20 levels in, in my case) as long as you're playing with a friendly experienced person 😂
With my group we often have 1 or 2 less experienced players that cycle through, and with them we play Professional, but when the team has all 3 of our "main" players at once we play NM and Insanity, it's how I prefer it
I play on your extreme professional difficulty but changing 2 options: number of hiding places to low instead of none and ghost speed to 150%. It's sooo terrifying.
I do the same but based around getting absolutely no hunts. 150% ghost speed, high roaming, high chance of changing ghost room, no grace period, no hiding spots. 75% starting sanity but 25% sanity gain from pills, pop a pill before going in the house. Breaker starts off and the weather is snow instead of heavy rain. If it's a demon, you're dead. I tried doing Insym's difficulty without any modifications. Saw a poltergeist ability which lowered my sanity and it immediately hunted and I died. A raiju did a ghost event at me within the first 10 seconds then started hunting because I had my flashlight on and I died. 75% starting sanity with no pills is just way too punishing.
I used to only run professional and pride myself on speedrunning for evidence without ever going below 70% sanity. Then I was streaming and making youtube vids for a little bit and I did only nightmare mode without any ghost behaviour knowledge (other than the absolute lies that the journal tells you). And now I'm back after over a year of not playing (except events) and I run nightmare no evidence runs mostly thanks to your content! It's safe to say that you have helped and inspired a lot of us baby ghost hunters into such monsters that even a Moroi or Thaye can't bother us anymore! so Thank you Insym! (en groeten uit Groningen)
I think the developers were smart and applied the game restriction unlocks to your previous level. I was level 67 before the update and I've had custom difficulty available if I remember correctly since level 0 on the new level system. I didn't have any maps locked either.

Me and my friends only play nightmare. We would like to play insanity but the removal of the cursed possesion removed a lot of fun so nightmare is where its at.
Play a custom difficulty, choose the insanity preset and just add 1 random cursed item. Multiplier is still decent (5.6x or something) and you get to play insanity with a cursed possession. This is what my friends and I do cause the cursed items are fun!
@@magicbronson8394 I know but when we go custom we just go all out. 150% ghost speed, no sanity, no breaker. It becomes more like a ow shit were going to die session haha.
I usually play on a custom setting that uses the professional preset but has two evidence instead of three. I like having all the information in the truck and testing myself to figure out the ghost via secondary evidence from a few choices. I’m not leet enough to do zero evidence! 😅
I got this game because a few of my friends had it. They were level 100 so I started the game on Professional and have actually never played on Amateur or Intermediate. Just realized that. I loved the game so much I was level 2k + and they were on 200 lmao
We play custom. I'd say the difficulty is something similar to insanity, though we remove cursed possessions. Don't remember if insanity has hiding spots, but we remove those, too.
Amatuer is easiest for me because I am legitimately scared of hunts lol. Played so many games and my fear for the hunts have not lightened up in the slightest.
Try turning the breaker on immediately and keeping the lights in the rooms you'll be in on, it'll prevent your sanity from draining much so the ghost won't hunt unless it's a demon (: If you still manage to lose sanity due to events or the breaker turning off then you can use pills and crucifixes
I only really play nightmare, but since ive gotten better at the game I have only been playing insanity. I love insanity because of how active and quick the ghost can give itself away. I know all my knowledge from you insym. Thank you for making me fall in love with the game.
We usually play on nightmare, but with the screens turned on in the van, giving us a 3.9x multiplier. It's a good compromise between having evidence and still using some no-evidence strategies, so that everyone can have a littlebit fun in our group of casual and core players^^

It didnt fn matter...once I was in the house with that creepy AF ambient noise, I forgot everything... When you're so good at hard difficulties that the easier ones are _more_ difficult. I play amateur because I'm still a new player, but when I play with my friends we do a custom mode because one of my friends thinks the ghosts don't appear or do stuff as much on regular amateur. That friend doesn't really know what they're talking about because I get all kinds of action when I play solo. Lol. I think I'll be bumping up the difficulty soon after seeing this video.
i currently do intermediate with 2 friends, both of wich have not played before. we spend most of our time waiting for ghost to do something. lets see what we can learn. edit: appearantly i cant learn anything as he almost gotten himself killed with tarot card twice in a row. DURING SETUP TIME
Tbh i never play amature or intermediate mode cus my first time playing phasmo was with my friends and they immediately put me in professional and nightmare, it is a very quick way for me to learn the game (plus watching Insym's and Psycho's videos lol). Me and my friends always play Nightmare, Professional for warm up, sometimes Insanity if we want the ghost to chase us all the time
I play on professional and custom (using professional preset with a couple of changes). If you like to chill with the game, intermediate difficulty is what you want, the problem is that you have to play 10 perfect games to get a level.
I play Professional mainly because it's nice to have those three evidences and you'll usually get hunted while looking for the third one, so more skilled players can decipher the ghost from that. I also stick around to get a perfect investigation, making hunts more prevalent. I will admit however that nightmare mode is how the game should be played if you're a more dedicated player. My main drawback is oftentimes the ghost will leave very little information between its constant hunts and I'm stuck for a half hour figuring out whether the ghost is an Obake, Yurei, or Yokai.
Me--not bright. I've been trying "to learn" how to play this game on Amateur. Just wanted to one ghost right per day. I consistently get one hard evidence by the time I move in all of the gear my sanity is at 50%. It's impossible to guess the ghost correctly without knowing their pacing and the timing etc. I'm just learning how to loop and hide, get around in the dark, etc. Even if I manage to survive, rarely do 3 pieces of evidence present. I was just beginning to figure out the Amateur is not the way. I really hope with Intermediate I can get better and earn some funds. It is quite an addictive game though. Thanks for the video!
I usually do professional but I like nightmare the most. It feels more rewarding to get the ghost right when you have to use more of your game knowledge to get it. It also forces you to do hunts sometimes which is nice cause in professional I usually just get all evidence and leave. I also have a fun custom setting that gives 6x like insanity but with 2 evidence like nightmare which is my actual favourite atm
I play on your custom professional difficulty, it's amazing. Sometimes if the ghost is an ass that spams events or turns the breaker off like a madman it's absolutely insane but otherwise, so good.
I watched the original phasmophobia when Markiplier streamed it, and only started playing it after the ascension update... Lets just say I was surprised by the complexity of the game when returning, and I had to watch so many videos to learn the in and outs of the game (That's how I found you and Maggstor!)
Recently just got back into this game was a hardcore professional player back on the old original versions of the game, now that I'm back I'm more into intermediate but just started working my way up to professional today, learning how to loop ghosts and use hunts as evidence! so glad I'm enjoying the game again!!
one thing that I would like to see be added is that on custom you can choose what ghost is going to be for that game but you would not get any money for it though it would be good practice
28:04 The other day a friend and I were playing some nightmare runs, and we got a Goryo. The way we figured it out? We were taking photos of footprints with the lights on and dots going, and I guess the dots showed up.. because a photo of the footprints was labeled as “ghost.” Therefore, dots still happen while you’re in the room, and you can still take a photo of them and get 3* credit… if you somehow are able to do that. Just silly photos made me think of that, lol. Who would’ve guessed
Yeah it is one of the thing that bothers me. There’s not much difference between difficulties below nightmare. Hiding spots, Set up time and grace period don’t do new players much good. Provided you keep lights on, you won’t get hunted unless it’s a demon or a jinn or Yurei using it’s ability a lot. Even a lot of the little settings don’t seem to work well, even if it’s a shade on low activity it might be super active whereas an Oni might have high activity but still not do anything.
i like to do a custom difficulty where it's the nightmare preset with a few changes: monitors on, less room changing, medium event rate, and no cursed possession. It pays a bit better than nightmare while also being quite a bit more manageable.
I usually play on professional and sometimes nightmare, its because i play with my friends and they usually aren't the best at finding out the ghost, or I find random lobbies where they usually play either professional or nightmare, kinda suprising for me was that intermediate is more often played than nightmare
Me and my friend just started playing recently but I've watched your videos for a long time so I technically went in with some knowledge already. We always played on amature at first but would hardly get any evidence. It would be like *door slams in my face* ...hmm might be a yurei, let's get the evidence anyway... proceed to get no evidence for the next 30 minutes. Leave with Yurei. It was correct. Now we've switched to intermediate and suddenly we're basically swimming in evidence
Just played the other night with my friends on nightmare mode for giggles only using the bare bones kit in the van and actually managed to determine the ghost type a few times. Also got the summoning circle 7 times in a row, but we're all under level 8 so we can't use it yet...
Our group of friends moved from professional to nightmare to no evidence to 15x to 15x sunny meadows only. We’ve gotten really good at figuring out ghosts with nothing but hunts but we are still cowards in the end. When alone I play the classic camp woodwind 12.97 to practice looping and evidenceless deductions
alone, i play professional. with friends, we play a 1 evidence custom difficulty that has around a 6-7x multiplier. we change certain things up from time to time (whether or not we have cursed object, whether or not we have the activity screen, etc)
Amateur is easy until the power goes out, your flashlight dies and the ghost starts a hunt from right next to you and locks the only door out from that room.
I have been playing on Intermediate for quite a while and it is so fun. In my last session with my friends after we found the ghost room, it hunted at 75% (demon btw) and followed me all the way from the basement to the front door where I juked it around a couch. So fun.
Me and my friend always play together. We usually play insanity with the sanity screen on and cursed items or nightmare as intended. We also like to play no evidence.
27:08 "unless it's the most insane spirit of all time" 🤣🤣🤣 36:53 True I once have a ghost that changes its fav room like every minute making it nearly impossible for the tem to drop below 1c. (while I have an idiot teammate who is trying to find the ghost orbs in the last fav ghost room) 42:27 perfect timing lol
I played very soon after the game launched, back when it was easy to speedrun with temperature. I barely learned how to play, had some fun, stopped playing because my friends stopped playing. I hopped back into the game a couple years later, and immediately regretted it. I was playing on amateur, as ya do when you haven't played a game in years. Cue 20 minutes of no ghost activity, wandering back and forth with items trying to pin the sucker down. No dice. We all died after almost no interaction. I was bored to tears. Haven't touched it since.
27:55 cooooongratulaioooons! You've just got rarest ghost photo of all time - a photo with ghost's autograph! Which doubles up as Ghost Writing photo smh
When I came back, I started with Amateur, cause so much has changed (I came back like a month ago and the last time I played was when they had first added asylum and prison [yeah literally YEARS ago]). Now I mostly do intermediate and professional.
I play Amateur but that's because I'm still learning the mechanics, getting myself used to the spooks so I'm not running for the hills at the first ghost whoosh I get in a game.
Ahaha love getting a loud tinnitus the moment you pulled the devil card right in the beginning. 👌 It's obviously a coincidence but still, holy crap. Cursed by video.
Personally, I play custom 0 evidence 0 sanity x9 difficulty. I find it fun to challenge myself to do tests and be creative to figure out the ghost, do objectives, fill the photo album with 3 stars pictures and find the bone.
Omg insym i have noticed u have more than 700k subs now!! hope u hit a million soon i have been watching u since when i had my old account and rhat was when u were at 10k subs so congrats on ur success so far
Every Cursed Possession should be made punishing. You can pull Tarot cards and get out of the house like you did in this case. So it should be made in such a way that if you get death card being out of the house then as soon as you enter the cursed hunt starts. Or the cursed hunt starts teleporting the ghost to you. Voodoo Doll heart pin can be pulled being out of the house so it should be made just like I said for Tarot Cards. For monkey paw,I wish to see the ghost,I wish for knowledge,I wish the ghost was trapped all of this can be wished and you can run out of the house so it can be done same as I said before. Same with board you can ask and go outside. Same with Mirror you can see and go outside. Even if someone uses these and is super high sanity they should still be cursed hunted as they are breaking the mechanics of the game.
Once on a lower. We broke the mirror and it hunted 5 times soon after. Also a lot of the time for a shade. It would get real quite then while in the truck ends up having a party after you leave.

Me and my friends always play Nightmare, Professional for warm up, sometimes Insanity if we want the ghost to chase us all the time
I think a perfect game version of this would be great!
20:20 "don't play like me... please"
But I want to!
I've been mostly focused on nightmare. I stopped playing for a while, so I'm still working my way up to insanity and the various trophies.
It depends on how I feel. Mostly play professional but sometimes nightmare
"Oh my goddd"
*door closes because of a hunt*
"AH-"

EMF: goes off randomally
Insym: oh its a wriath
Love ur vids Insym! Keep it up❤
one thing that I would like to see be added is that on custom you can choose what ghost is going to be for that game but you would not get any money for it though
it would be good practice
It would help you to learn each ghosts abilities in a controlled setting
Would love to try to figure out twins speed

Bro the thumbnail Is more insane than the video 😂
Insym: "If i get a The Hanged Man card then so be it then."
The Hanged Man: "Say no less."
Insym: "What."
I love that mimic's evidence is all of the garanteed so that you can be thrown off guard by those hidden abilities
Close! It has 3 of the 4 evidence types that are mandatory. Doesn't have DOTS, which is a required evidence for Goryo.

The other day a friend and I were playing some nightmare runs, and we got a Goryo. The way we figured it out? We were taking photos of footprints with the lights on and dots going, and I guess the dots showed up.. because a photo of the footprints was labeled as “ghost.”
Therefore, dots still happen while you’re in the room, and you can still take a photo of them and get 3* credit… if you somehow are able to do that.
Me and my friends play only on Professional and sometimes at Nightmare. We haven't been brave enough to try Insanity for now lmao
Phasmophobia content: 📈
Insym’s tarot card luck: 📉
Seeing your content makes me wish I was able to play lobbies without being kicked for being a low level :
Amateur is a challenge for Insym and Insanity/Nightmare is a challenge for ppl who play Amateur lmao
i like to do a custom difficulty where it's the nightmare preset with a few changes: monitors on, less room changing, medium event rate, and no cursed possession.
I tend to play on nightmare-ish custom difficulty with slight difference to make the mode a little harder but with more intel as well
Correction: Cursed hunts are only 1s grace period for the first hunt. Subsequent hunts are indeed 20s longer but they keep the normal grace period.
alone, i play professional. with friends, we play a 1 evidence custom difficulty that has around a 6-7x multiplier. we change certain things up from time to time (whether or not we have cursed object, whether or not we have the activity screen, etc)
So fun.
im sorry but the thumbnail is making me laugh so hard 😭😭😭
"If I get the Hanged Man, so be it" 💀
Man, Tarot Cards are my favorite cursed possession
Me and my friend always play together. We usually play insanity with the sanity screen on and cursed items or nightmare as intended.
We also like to play no evidence.
27:08 "unless it's the most insane spirit of all time" 🤣🤣🤣
36:53 True I once have a ghost that changes its fav room like every minute making it nearly impossible for the tem to drop below 1c. (while I have an idiot teammate who is trying to find the ghost orbs in the last fav ghost room)
42:27 perfect timing lol
Those tarot card odds. Maybe you should do a Cursed Possession version of Ghost Gambling. 🤭
Def one of the best phasmo vid thumbnails
42:25 the usual tarrot cards experience in one clip HAHAHAHAHA
Omg insym i have noticed u have more than 700k subs now!! hope u hit a million soon i have been watching u since when i had my old account and rhat was when u were at 10k subs so congrats on ur success so far
I’m still on Amateur because I haven’t played in quite a while and I don’t feel like I’m ready to increase the difficulty yet.
ty so much this helped me learn and that lower difficulties can still be harder than the higher ones
