    Thanks for the tutorial, was really helpful. I bought this resin, because it was advertised as Clear resin, and the price was good. I am a beginner to resin, but I got all these microbubbles no matter how slow or fast I stirred the resin. Now I will try to put in a warm bath, as you suggested. ...of course there is no pressure chamber at home :/ …. but then it should be advertised the correct way... and yes when I add pigment to it, there are no bubbles. I just wanted some clear pendants and now I might use it mostly with colors to avoid seeing the bubbles.

    I didn’t get micro bubbles when I used a heat gun or torch to go over the resin after pouring it. Maybe try that to eliminate the micro bubbles you are experiencing with this resin. I’ve used multiple different resins and have used heat to get rid of the micro bubbles in all of them.

    • @AmyMade
      @AmyMade  5 років тому

      C Rapach I use those methods as well. However heat gun and torch will not remove all of the micro bubbles if you are using it for casting. But for coating, yes, they work since the layer is thinner. For microbubbles, prevention is key. That is why I showed the hot water bath method. But if you have a pressure pot or vacuum chamber, you don’t really have to worry about it.

    • @AmyMade
      @AmyMade  4 роки тому +2

      General rule of thumb is to always protect yourself when working with resin since it is considered a hazardous material. Should be worked in a well ventilated space and skin protected from it. I use it on certain brands since I am sensitive to the fumes. So the use of respirator is a personal choice.

    I’m trying to make a homemade cardboard cutout and I’m using standard printer/business paper for it. I’ve never used resin before, but I was thinking about using it to make my project glossy and waterproofed to an extent. Amazon says this resin is good on paper but is resin what I need for what I’m trying to do? If it is, would I apply it kind of like how you did the metal dome in the video? And is a foam brush okay for application?

    • @AmyMade
      @AmyMade  4 роки тому +2

      You would need to seal the paper and the cardboard with a decopage medium such as modpodge. Because paper is porous so it will soak the resin causing oil like stains. It would be best to apply with a scraper or a spatula of some sort. Let the excess resin drip off the sides. You would also need to tape off the backside of the cutout with painters tape if you don’t want resin drips there. If this cutout is going to be kept as a forever keepsake, then yes resin would be great. But if it’s for temporary use for an event or something like that, I wouldn’t use it since it’s pricey. Depending on the size of your cutout, you may need quite a bit of resin and 16oz kit is already over 20 bucks. You may be better off by just using photo paper and gloss sealant spray

    I noticed you said if the hardner has a yellow tint that its old. I'm assuming your saying thats only for this brand because some brands their hardner is a yellow tint already. Stone coat countertops platinum formula is a good example. They sell a yellow hardner that they say will never yellow once hard

    • @AmyMade
      @AmyMade  4 роки тому

      Actually, I’ve learned the yellowing in the hardener is from it oxidizing from exposure to air. The seal is not 100% air tight in these bottles unless it’s under a vacuum or something. So the older the hardener is, the more yellow it will be. The yellowness won’t be noticeable in the casting unless you are doing a clear piece.

    • @AmyMade
      @AmyMade  4 роки тому

      Yoselin Rodriguez www.eagerpolymers.com for the dyes. Warming up the resin will shorten the pot life (working time) as mentioned in the video. And if you mix a large amount of resin, that will shorten it even more as the exothermic reaction will be greater. . So If you are going to warm up the resin, make sure you’re not warming it up too much and avoid mixing a large batch.

    Ive been trying to find a new resin and would appreciate suggestions.
    The resin ive used is envirotex lite 16oz for about $17 from my local hardware store and its my only local option.
    Its served me well for smaller jewelry and such but ive recently been doing slightly bigger things like trinket dishes and boxes. The resin seems to struggle with staying runny and getting in the nooks and cranies of things, it gets gloopy too fast. So id like to find a clear resin that stays runny and is at a similar price per amount if possible.

    • @AmyMade
      @AmyMade  5 років тому

      Seems like you need resin that either has a longer pot life or a lower viscosity. Envirotex lite has a pot life of only 25min!? With larger amounts of mixed resin, the curing reaction/heat will be greater, shortening your pot life; which is what is happening in your case. So art 'n glow will already be a better resin for you. You may save a little on the price if you buy the larger kit.
