      @@Terra_Incognita115 Pat has Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) that manifests as an irrational desire to keep things in ordered states or done to his specifications. When something triggers his OCD, he calls the anxiety this creates in his mind, a “Mind Goblin” that will torment him until he escapes the situation that’s triggering his OCD. (Either by avoiding the cause, or powering through it, which can be very stressful. Which is why he devoted a series of streams to playing games that set off his OCD in the first place.)

    I love hearing Pat talk about this. For one thing I find it intensely interesting, as Woolie seems to as well.
    But also, it helps build empathy and understanding for this in someone who isn't subjected to it themselves (me, and I suspect others). I feel it helps the reaction to "dude, I just _can't_ " go from dismissing the person's plight, towards accepting/understanding it. To more fully understand that there are people going through life with these legitimate problems that others literally can't fathom having, and that those problems are real and deserving of patience and empathy.

    There is actually more than 2 endings, kinda, there is a variation on the High Chaos ending if you cross that threshold but never go totally nuts with it, and the difference is Immediate upon entering the final zone. The boat man, whatever his name is, will alert the guards right after you get off the boat on the High Chaos ending, but if you were kinda in the middle, instead he is just depressed and basically goes "Ok, well, time to go off myself." and doesn't fire the flare to alert the guards.

    When Woolie asked about what would happen to Pat if he got stuck in an uncomfortable OCD situation he couldn't get out of, I was reminded of General Bolt from the game Thousand Arms. General Bolt was a robot man that hated big words with a passion. When he was wounded by the hero party, his auto repair system kicked in, which happened to have an audible voice declaring what it was doing. The auto repair voice announcing things like "running a diagnostic" infuriated Bolt, but the thing saying the big words was his own body, so he couldn't do anything to stop it. This anger welled up inside him more and more as the system kept spouting off big words, until Bolt ballooned to the point he couldn't breathe and exploded. That's what I think would happen to Pat if he was trapped by his OCD. Figuratively speaking.

    RimWorld has a tutorial about how to stay safe from fire where it tells you to build every room in your base as a separate building, supposedly to avoid fire spreading between different rooms. Except that grass ignites and stone walls and floors don't, and the game's temperature control system becomes a lot more expensive to deal with when you don't have shared walls between rooms. Building a single mega-building is better in pretty much every way than building your kitchen as a separate building from your dining room.

    Dishonored's morality system is awful, as it is with most games from that era using the gimmick. That said it's worthwhile to do multiple playthroughs (high chaos, low chaos, ghost, etc) to see the whole spectrum of gameplay. Minimal kills? That's a fun challenge. StealthGamerBR-esque carnage? Also fun. There's even an achievement for beating the whole game with only the non-upgraded teleport. I did that on my ghost/no kill run which made it exponentially more challenging.
    I would really recommend anyone NOT feel pressured to ghost/no kill it the first time through just because of a bad tooltip.

      As fun as the combat is; finding a way to get through the game unseen and with no kills makes you really appreciate the level design. There's a ton of ways to approach most situtations which is why I love Arkane.

    And then Dishonored 2 made High Chaos Corvo just Canon Corvo!
    That dad article has to be a parody...
    Related note, I gave up a Dishonored Ghost run entirely during the bit when the Whalers are introduced, because at one point a Whaler would just Blink from his little perch directly in front of me, spot me as I killed him, and I would reload, get past one and it would happen again. So I tried to learn their pathing and teleport routes? Okay. Then one teleported and popped up behind me and I said, 'Yep, screw it.' and killed him and went right on with the game.

  • @kingVibe111
    @kingVibe111 3 роки тому +2

    Honestly Dishonored, when you start being chaotic, produces more enemies in levels which means to stay chaotic you need to kill more people or else the game becomes easier and goes back to to low chaos. It’s interesting how the game molds to your grip, but it works quite hard, once you’re a few missions in and have better stealth powers, to help you work in low chaos.
    The problem is they have these different endings and low chaos is clearly good. I really despise that. You can do terrible things and get the good ending. But playing the chaos route is the actual fun route. In a normal run the best parts were always when you went crazy for a second and blew a bunch of stuff up and killed a load of guys before getting back in stealth, or dying. Those 5 seconds before a death were the best five seconds of the run so far. Now back to playing “right” and being bored. Enjoy the game.
    All thanks to the “good ending” trope.

    I've had the same problem as pat but with stealth games in general. If I got seen, I reset the level. If even an ai just saw a body, I reset. But I was showing a friend mgs5 and he saw all the cool weapons I would never use because they were loud and or lethal. I took them in to show them off and it let me get out of that funk. I had just as much fun if not more blowing out bases and just running at dudes. Playing around other people for sure helped the mind goblins

    My favorite part about dishonored was those several times where I used one of my VERY HARD TO GET tranq darts to knock someone out, and they fell into the water drowning/got eaten by rats that I didn't see. Every kill in my first playthrough was this. I got the bad ending and never played again because I was upset that I tried so hard not to kill anyone, yet Samuel DESPISED me because of how hard the environment tries to kill unconscious people.
