I think I built one of these in the early 1960's. It cost 2/6 (which was my weekly pocket money allowance) and came in a plastic bag. Ah, the nostalgia...
2/6. Sherbet dabs were 3d. Polo mints I think 2d. Small chocolate bar 6d. Larger chocolate bar 1/-. Giant one a florin (2/-). Fruit salad sweets 1/4d. Memories, memories.
@@mbak7801 I think this tooling was first released in 1968, before decimalisation. 2/6 became 12.5p. Now even the humble half-penny has been phased-out! Cadbury bought Freddos from MacRoberts, but they didn't go on sale here in the UK until 1973. Today, Sainsbury's are charging 25p (or 2 Airfix Hawker Demons!) for an 18g Freddo. 😳😄
Great build and paint on a rather old kit. I still like Airfix as they still release the older kits, and while these are rather simple builds they do provide us with the interwar planes that helped shape the pilots of the time into the aces of WW2. Thanks for sharing this with us!
Looks like a model I need to add to my collection. I don't often build 1/72nd aircraft, but it looks like this one is going to be a good one to have. Thanks for posting the video.
I can watch this video over and over. The beauty of this aiplane is beyond words. I just finished mine a day ago and the result is awesome. I painted it all-over yellow and resulted a.candy with wings. I love my hawker demon. I will start working on my 1/32 stearman and I'm absolutely sure that this lil one, will always win as my pet biplane. As there's no 1/32 hawker demon, I will build it using a drawing or a blueprint. Comparing Hawker with Stearman, will be an interesting match. Kudos.
This is also a beauty. Its very sad that the time is too late for this biplane, also for the Bulldogge and the Gladiator. Thank you for the channel and this Video.
A lovely old kit. I've got two in my stash, I notice - have no recollection of buying the second one - but one is definitely now going to be painted in camouflage colours, to represent a machine from the early days of the last war. Some RAF bases used these as utility aircraft, or 'hacks', flying between airfields. These inter-war aircraft look very cool in camouflage.
Good video Matt. I do like the way you share your errors with us! Not so sure about leaving off the rigging , isn’t that what a bi-plane is kinda about? That said I have never built one so I may well change in this view?!? Like I say, good one Matt Bob England
A nice, simple kit that goes together easily and looks great. The Airfix Hart was also a gem. From what I heard, Airfix modified the Hart moulds to make the Demon. A pity as it would be nice to have the Hart come back.
I do wash the sprues depending on how oily they feel. Sometimes I don't wash them, but even if i do wash them I don't always feel that including that in the video is relevant to the flow of the content
@Model Minutes yes, I watched the whole video and indeed, you placed the decal. The question is: on which surface you placed the decal? I just cut a piece of styrene and shaped using the decal. Later, I glued the "panel control" to the fuselage. Once was ready, I pai Ted the whole unit, the "panel" along the fuselage. Once I paint overall yellow (fuselage, lower and top wings, rudder and elevator all in place), I will place the decal the same way you did on your model. Thank you very much for answering. By the way, your "Demon" looks fantastic! Kudos from Mexico.
@Model Minutes yes, I saw it but I thought that results way too small and decal at the end, will be flapping and is likely to broke. I glued the piece I shaped into that part you kindly mentioned. Thank you so much!!!!!
Nice one. I like WWI aircraft, although as you say they are a patience trier. My largest was the HP 400 bomber. Ambitious but not bad result. I would do another to improve from the experience.
I just watched a walk through video of the Airfix factory. They made a big deal about Q&A. They claimed that they NEVER let models out if there where broken parts. Hmm 🤔
That specifically refers to the factory in the uk which is currently producing the new spitfire. This kit probably came from India which is another location that Airfix contracts to mould models, it would seem their QC is poorer
in 72 scale rigging doesn't tend to make it look better imho... probably due to my limited skill in that regard, but I only rig the biggest biplanes in that scale!
I'll hold my hand up and admit I'm a wargammer first and a model builder second but it makes me laugh every time folk mention the prices of models. £6 is peanuts in the plastic crack world 😄 it's one of the main reasons I'm looking to use models like this for large scale aerial wargames.
There is something to be said about building really awful kits. Maybe a vid on currently available rubbish kits. Then allow viewers to build a named kit and send in pictures of how well they did. Probably a good way to build skills.

I've recently found some frog kits which have card headers and plastic bags . . they will get built at some point :D

I also built this Hawker Demon around 1970 and I have still it.
I built this about fifty yeas ago, back when airbrushing a model kit was not so common.

That was so cool remembering. I did the same. 50 years ago...
Awesome!
Very nice build of a very old kit! I like the idea of looking at these reissues as "Buy the decal sheet and you get a free kit to put it on!"
Good point!
Saw it for the first time in the 1965 catalogue, great looking model you have done, still need to get it.
Thanks!
Great build . Made this kit back in the '60's when l was a kid and this video has inspired me to check it out again all these years later .
you should!

Thanks!
It turned out OK. 👍 Only ever built 2 bi planes both ended up in the bin . Will be giving it another go as alot older now . Ha .
good luck!
Nice, well explained video. Thanks !

Greta build and review as usual. Thank you.
Glad you think so! 😊 thanks 🙏
Good looking build. 👍👍
Thanks!
GREAT BUILD AND VIDEO,NEVER COULD DO RIGGING,BIG HANDS SAME REASON I FAIL TYPING CLASS LONG AGO.TAKE CARE
Thanks! I find rigging to be quite stressful, so for my sanity don't always do it

Good looking model. Added to my wish list as it seems only old ones available are on eBay are about £12.
That seems a little expensive tbh, but secondhand prices are always high

did you thin the vallejo varnish before you sprayed it?

Yeah, this is based off the Hart moulds
The music is very catchy
thanks! I try and mix up the music I use so it doesn't become stale
Just an observation, but do you not rinse off the plastic parts on the sprues with soapy water to remove any grease?
I do wash the sprues depending on how oily they feel. Sometimes I don't wash them, but even if i do wash them I don't always feel that including that in the video is relevant to the flow of the content
How you did about instrument panel?
Not sure I understand your question? The control panel decal was applied in the video around 05:30

@@carlosballesteros4670 the model has a control panel part pre-moulded inside the cockpit halves if I remember correctly. That’s what I applied it to

Broken parts? - Must have been a kit you picked and packed on your recent Airfix visit😅
Lol! I think it would more likely be the decals that were broken had I packed it haha

I've got the Hp400 in the stash to do at some point . . .
I would say I want to build it, but it's a biplane, so I'll end up pretending I want to build it and then raging at it 😂😂
haha! I didn't do the rigging for that exact reason
You could do the Airfix Henschel HS 123 as itdoesnt have wing riging wires.
