As a Thai I never understood the rivalry between Thailand and Vietnam. How did it start? I don't understand why both countries should feel the need to win over each other. Vietnam is a great country and their economic growth has been way beyond excellent. Vietnamese football developed a lot over the past decade. They have great league quality as well as the national team. I'm still confused when I see online fans from both nations say they "need to win". Like, have we ever been enemies? I personally think of all SEA as friends. In fact, I'm still disappointed that my government didn't do anything when China invaded our neighbors' sea. Anyway, lots of love and friendship here from Thailand. Again, Vietnam has great quality and I'm proud with the boys that they could get a win. Sad that the ref didn't do a very good job. VAR must be implemented into the next Suzuki cup. It is a shame how much impact bad refereeing decisions can have on a match. Of course you can NOT say Thailand won because of the referee, they scored 2 goals from the Vietnamese own mistakes. But you CAN say the referee put Vietnam at a big disadvantage. Remember this is not even a single legged knockout, this is two legged knockout. The referee decisions not only made Vietnam lose by 2 goals, but now they will have to head into the second leg needing to score at least 2 goals. Not only has the referee effected this match, he has probably effected the entire semi final and tournament as a whole. Just imagine if thailand converted the penalty given to them. It would have been 3-0. Vietnam would of headed into the second leg with an even bigger mountain to climb. AFF, it is 2021. You must implement var if you want the tournament to continue to gain prestige.

I admit Thailand's 2 goals are legal but I don't understand that the referee in that match gave a very bad catch even though the Thailand goalkeeper was guilty of pulling his shirt to prevent 1 goal and the situation was offside and let the ball touch his hand. a Thai player in the penalty area, too sacred for Vietnamese players
Offside, VN already shot and Thai keeper saved already, watch it again. And ball touched owned hand after unintentional kicking in penalty box, direction also opposite the goal, none of normal brain referee gives penalty. Thai penalty also must be re-shoot because vietnam keeper jumped off the line before shooting. It would be 3-0 definitely.

It is not even bias to say that the referee was against Vietnam in this match. Everyone from every other country in asean, the commentators, and Koreans who have tv rights to this tournament on SBS saw this match as very poorly officiated. I am not taking anything away from Thailand, it is not their fault for poor refereeing and they played well. But the refereeing must be better.
Of course it wasnt Thailand’s fault otherwise more of Vietnam players would have been on yellow and Thailand would play much easier. The ref didnt dictate the plays well enough that why those Vietnamese defenders just kept bumping right into the bodies’ of Thai players with no ball and were without fouls given.

As a Thai I never understood the rivalry between Thailand and Vietnam. How did it start? I don't understand why both countries should feel the need to win over each other. Vietnam is a great country and their economic growth has been way beyond excellent. Vietnamese football developed a lot over the past decade. They have great league quality as well as the national team. I'm still confused when I see online fans from both nations say they "need to win". Like, have we ever been enemies? I personally think of all SEA as friends. In fact, I'm still disappointed that my government didn't do anything when China invaded our neighbors' sea.

VAR must be implemented into the next Suzuki cup. It is a shame how much impact bad refereeing decisions can have on a match. Of course you can NOT say Thailand won because of the referee, they scored 2 goals from the Vietnamese own mistakes. But you CAN say the referee put Vietnam at a big disadvantage. Remember this is not even a single legged knockout, this is two legged knockout. The referee decisions not only made Vietnam lose by 2 goals, but now they will have to head into the second leg needing to score at least 2 goals.
Not only has the referee effected this match, he has probably effected the entire semi final and tournament as a whole. Just imagine if thailand converted the penalty given to them. It would have been 3-0. Vietnam would of headed into the second leg with an even bigger mountain to climb.
AFF, it is 2021. You must implement var if you want the tournament to continue to gain prestige.

Wow, an attractive match. To be honest, VietNam control the game and has a lot of attempts. They are unlucky to score a goal. Thailand did a good job and has 2 goals but they have support from refferee 😅 hand ball, faults, off-side,.. the refferee made so many mistakes in a match. Next time they should invest in VAR. (4) : Our goalkeeper would receive a red card if Chanathip couldn't score a goal.
(2) : I coudn't understand that why our player deliberately kicked the ball at Thai player's face. I think that at this situation our player deserved a yellow card.
(3) : It's really difficult for referee to consider that the goalkeeper is moving out of the line or not. But I agree with this statement.

I admit Thailand's 2 goals are legal but I don't understand that the referee in that match gave a very bad catch even though the Thailand goalkeeper was guilty of pulling his shirt to prevent 1 goal and the situation was offside and let the ball touch his hand. a Thai player in the penalty area, too sacred for Vietnamese players
Offside, VN already shot and Thai keeper saved already, watch it again. And ball touched owned hand after unintentional kicking in penalty box, direction also opposite the goal, none of normal brain referee gives penalty. Thai penalty also must be re-shoot because vietnam keeper jumped off the line before shooting. It would be 3-0 definitely.

It is not even bias to say that the referee was against Vietnam in this match. Everyone from every other country in asean, the commentators, and Koreans who have tv rights to this tournament on SBS saw this match as very poorly officiated. I am not taking anything away from Thailand, it is not their fault for poor refereeing and they played well. But the refereeing must be better.

Of course it wasnt Thailand’s fault otherwise more of Vietnam players would have been on yellow and Thailand would play much easier. The ref didnt dictate the plays well enough that why those Vietnamese defenders just kept bumping right into the bodies’ of Thai players with no ball and were without fouls given.
