This was a really cool format! Would love to see more stuff in this style. Maybe one for weird/poorly considered E3 presentation moments? I know someone made an edit of the magnificent train wreck that was Konami E3 2010, but there’s so many other presentation moments that are legendary for all the wrong reasons.
Ooh, that’s a good idea! We’ve got a few other things we want to react to, but I’ll add it to the list!
I can confirm that I've lived in a house where the bidet was a separate bowl next to the toilet lol
30:13
Actually, that's kinda genius that it's a hot tub. Not for a game advertisement but for a reference to the fact that goemon is a real japanese person who was boiled alive
Oh shit, this is “the death of goemon colorized?” 😦
The deep Chris lore, holy shit. I wasn’t ready. I was having some Nintendo Power magazine nostalgia today so this video was really well-timed for me, I always thought of Sega of America as being the more edgy brand in terms of their marketing to try to play off the family-friendly image of Nintendo, I knew about the ferret ad but I was surprised by some of the other Nintendo entries featured.
I love how when the Devil May Cry ad showed up and I heard “Jesus fucking Christ Dante,” because my name is Dante.
Also I will not stand for this slandering of the Dreamcast!
The Dreamcast was amazing, I loved so much about it, and it did so poorly 😩 - Zak
the Chris competitively fished bit...
a moment for all time
I still don’t believe it
The 80’s and 90’s were a lawless time for video game ads.
I can't wait for Wii fishing with an actual pro fisherman now that we've unlocked that Chris deep lore.
Is Nose Gunner Luke Atmey's alias? 🤣
This and bad box art have been some of the best videos I've seen
I think the Sonic one was supposed to be a delivery nurse showing a newborn to the father? But the newborn is Sonic? And maybe the joke is that babies pee all over? It's still not a good ad, but at least there's some context? Those Sega ads were all super wild!
42:24 I've only watched a bit of the Metal Gear Solid games, but I'd be very interested if you guys played them. Your guys' chemistry is so good that I think I'd be really entertaining
We've entertained the idea of streaming it and having us do all the voice overs, but we have never gotten around to it!
As someone who's seen gameplay of Goemon I also have no idea what it's about.
Lara Croft had a separate bidet in her bathroom in the old Tomb Raider games, I thought built in bidets were a recent thing
Upon research, that seems to be true. Huh, the more you know! Thanks!
wait, hold on, the sonic ad is pro-sega? in what way is saying that he pisses on everything supposed to be good? they must be going for like he's marking his territory but to me it definitely reads as "he sucks really bad and ruins everything"
Yeahhhh old ads are just built different lol
12:50 as an actual spaniard I can confirm having a bidet next to the toilet is completly normal. In fact the three bathrooms in my house do have them like that
The hilarious thing about the hot tub ad with Goemon is that the one game I played from his series (Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon for the n64) is one of those games that kids play but its full of adult content. As a kid I never paid attention to the opening scene of the game but when I replayed it as an adult, it involves Goemon and his friend Ebisumaru running away from a bar because they didn't have any money to pay their tab and Ebisumaru was so drunk he took off all his clothes and tried to dance sexy for everyone as a way to pay off their debt.
I would liquidate all my assets to pay to see you guys play through the N64 version, its buckwild
Given the absolute atrocity that all of these ads are, I'm shocked video games succeeded 😂
losing it over the concept of competitive fishing cuz that's always been buckwild to me, losing it a sECOND TIME over Chris just dropping that iNSANE LORE omfg what
as someone whose first game I ever played was my friends copy of Ecco the dolphin (we sucked at it btw) and who ADORES that game and it's insane graphic and vibe nowadays, that ad at 56:44 is probably one of the best things ever, actually - oh my god holyshit that's absolutely fantastic thank you
This is well over a year late, I'm just rewatching and got curious. So, I have some fun facts about A Fork in the Tale, the Rob Schneider FMV game:
It is inspired by Dragon's Lair and has more or less the same gameplay loop.
The game had a budget of 2 million dollars. I'm curious about the breakdown of how much went where.
This was the developer AnyRiver's first and last game that they released
It was in development for three-and-a-half years, and I'm not a game dev but that feels like way too long for an FMV game in 1997
THIS GAME WAS ON FIVE CDS??? REALLY??? IF YOU BOUGHT THIS GAME YOU GOT 5 CDs???
I can't find any information on how much this game would have cost on release or do I know if the 5 discs inflated that which I wanted to know, the only price I can find is from its only review on IMDB, who says they got it for 8 bucks for their review in 2001.
It does that thing that a lot of schlock fantasy movies do where they're obviously just filming in the local woods but it's supposed to be this fantasy world. It also does that other thing that a lot of schlock fantasy movies do where there are skimpy fur wearing warrior women, so yeah this game just looks like an awful time unless you're really into Rob Schneider.
This game sold less than 1,000 copies.
A bad magazine ad is worth a thousand copies.
Today I learned: Conker's Bad Fur Day is not a child-friendly game.
😂
I forgot about the Boktai mention. That's such a good game. Would love a playthrough one day....😁
For the 32x, I couldn't help but think of "console f***ing! You were talking about console f***ing!"
44:05 - oooooh, so that's why the god is silent now?..
Ooooh would definitely watch y'all play some Metal Gear :) Pretty sure I played through MGS3 the most. MGS2 was very fun also! And I always think of the button mashing squence when I think of MGS1 😅
"sega didn't come to the west until the '90s"
…ok so, regardless of the fact the ad in question was a master system ad, the mega drive (aka genesis) hit the states in 1988, what are you talking about‽
58:53 Think again, Zak.
I’m pretty sure the joke with the Joystick and the “mysterious white substance” is just bird poop, like yknow the birds shadow is literally over the guy. Eagle 🦅 poop is the joke.
Dude, I still have a Dreamcast lol
I keep mine for a random marvel v Capcom 2 multiplayer nights 😅
Me too!
That kind of bidet is commonplace in europe and south america. Not everybody has a robot in their toilet.
I've never played devil may cry what is that thing dante is using to "hide those man nipples?" Is he wearing lederhosen under there or is it some kind of weird chest belt?
Please make the Chris was a fisher bit a tiktok
Yeah I really gotta do that 😂
Get wrecked notification squad.
1:03:46 proof that us gamers are truly the most oppressed people in history.
Eh, some of the ads were clever
