awesome video kid! I was scratching my head on how to attach a band break to my tricycle (it only has a front break) that I'm putting a motor on. Exactly the info I needed! I have limited bike experience so I couldn't picture it in my head. Thank you!
excuse me sir, I was watching this video for information purposes just like you were, but my use for this information seems to be very different. I was wondering if there was any way that I could obtain a photo of the tricycle in question, as it has most certainly peeked my curiosity. All the best, a fellow george2011k fan.
just a couple tips: the lock nut washers should be next to the nuts to keep them tight. snug fitting washers would be a better option for spacing the drum from the sprocket. also, the torque wrench tells you how tight you have the bolt. im not sure where you could find the torque specs but on a go kart it really doesnt matter unless youre working on one of those high speed fancy shifter ones. good vid tho, thumbs up!
The lock washers on the inside of the drum won't lock the nuts on. They need to be right up ahi st the bolts because they dig into the bolt and make it really hard to turn, on the outside of the drum they just act as spacers.
I need to know how you got that drive wheel off.i have took the big bolt off for the wheel there are 2 Alan key screws on the thing that the chain sits on that I took loose.then I tried to knock it off.need to know if there is something I'm missing or do I need to knock it off with more force
Yes thank u very much what I need to no is I can find the replacement brake band but where can I get the drum from? If u could help I would appreciat it.
figured id let you know you can buy that exact torque wrench from auto zone. it's only like 8 years old. they didn't use 3/8ths until the late 80's they used 1/4 and 1/2.
The wheeles are hard to find and are extremely expensive about 300$ for all 4 with tubes and tires and wheel frames 1 sec ill post a link to what ive found when looking for cheaper but good wuality wheeles
I have this same type of setup. I need a new hub because mine is like hollowed out where the keystock is supposed to go. Anybody know where I can get one, I tried looking everywhere?
I have to fix mine it looks a lot different than that setup ,it goes from the brake to a rod to another rod which is pinned to the brake band but for some reason when you go on the breaks it barely brakes
Demanding that someone answer you I usually not the best way to get things from others. To answer your question though, a rod will work in both tension and compression and a cable will only work in tension, so a cable will rely on the ability of your band brake to spring back off the drum so it's doesn't cause extra friction when driving normally...a rod will push the band off the drum when you operate the lever back to normal.
This is the only video i found showing how to install the brakes. Thanks
I bought a cheap little go cart frame and fixed it all up got it running Then got stuck on brakes. This video helped allot. Great job.
Saving me 13 years later thanks man
i like the idea of having a rod for the brakes as opposed to using a cable that can fray and fail. good job on the setup and thanls for sharing.
thinking about switching to a rod myself now

Great video, right to the point and very informative.
I thought the lockwasher is suppose to go right behind the nut,..not on the sprocket side ?
Good job. Finally someone using a band brake. I'm gonna buy one of those soon.
thanks this is a big help I am making my own go-kart and
now I know how to make the brakes on my go-kart

Great video. Very instructional. Keep up the great job!!
Thanks bro helped a lot very instructional bro
how do you find out the size of the band brake and the drum? i have to get a new band but i have no idea which way it is measured.
The lock washers on the inside of the drum won't lock the nuts on. They need to be right up ahi st the bolts because they dig into the bolt and make it really hard to turn, on the outside of the drum they just act as spacers.
Good job young man....well done.
great video helped me out alot.. I got the break I was about to throw it out not knowing what they where
Did you weld a bolt to the chassis to get the back wheel on?
I'm a newbie to the go kart scene
I need to know how you got that drive wheel off.i have took the big bolt off for the wheel there are 2 Alan key screws on the thing that the chain sits on that I took loose.then I tried to knock it off.need to know if there is something I'm missing or do I need to knock it off with more force
That was pretty good. thanks for the upload
Hello dude from 9 years ago!
Well done kid
Thanks very helpful with my kart
it workd for a while but i had to weld a brace on the frame of the go kart to hold it in place but keep them vids comming im learning a lot
way to go kid! Thanks!
Yes thank u very much what I need to no is I can find the replacement brake band but where can I get the drum from? If u could help I would appreciat it.
how well does the band brake work? can u please make a driving vid for me to see. is it as good as a disk brake? thanks.
Nice video!
@shacodbe band brakes are not as good as disc brakes but if used properly they can work well.
thanks this helped a lot
Where did you purchase that wheel with sprocket?
which kit did you buy? Can you give me a link
@george2011k How do you put the sprocket on the brake with drum could you help me please as soon as possiable...................
Will they fit on a 5" rim
figured id let you know you can buy that exact torque wrench from auto zone. it's only like 8 years old. they didn't use 3/8ths until the late 80's they used 1/4 and 1/2.
That's not want a torque wrench is supposed to be used for it's to tighten bolt to a certain torque setting
What size rims 6" or 4" ?
Where can I get those wheels?
Did the Go-kart brake work well because I saw you only had only one band brake? Just asking to do the same to mine.
Gotcha Caimito I'm assuming that's a "live axle" meaning that the single brake works on both wheels because they are fixed to the axle.
what does the spring do for it?
Brings the peddal back to its original position
Where do I buy a brake rod from for a Carter Gokart?
helped alot thanks :)
Where did you get the wheels. I'm trying to make a kart and can' find the wheels anywhere. Also where did you get the sprocket? Nice vid :)

Qwalt66 look at northern tools
you torqued the bolts wrong you need to do every other one in order to not warp the sprocket and drum
what happens when it keeps sliping off when u hit the brake
How so you get the band from twisting off
I have this same type of setup. I need a new hub because mine is like hollowed out where the keystock is supposed to go. Anybody know where I can get one, I tried looking everywhere?
this kid smart this video taught a 25 year old
i could have sworn i was talking to a ase certified mechanic who was 25 years old with a 1975 mustang lol
Ha ha I have had the drive assembly fall completely off from using cheap bolts :-)
tighten them in a star pattern for even tighting
could i get the specs of your band brake im looking for one exactly like that
ok so don't put the really small nuts or washers in a can but leave the really big sproket on because you might loose
I have to fix mine it looks a lot different than that setup ,it goes from the brake to a rod to another rod which is pinned to the brake band but for some reason when you go on the breaks it barely brakes
acutally helps
@shacodbe my account was hacked or something i can make the vid but you'll have to go to my new channel
ill do it as soon as possible
please someone answer me. do u have to use a brake rod or can i use a brake cable? what are the differences?
Demanding that someone answer you I usually not the best way to get things from others. engine?
Is somebody watching his in 2021?
2022
Anybody know where u can buy brake rods and not brake cables?
Yes, washer placement is incorrect..
i need new brakes racing tire and the the go thiny but i still worrks.
Sorry but that's not a torque wrench is used for !!!
hey kid the spring is on the wrong way
that kind of happend to me
Can someone link me to the parts he used
lock washers are in the wrong place,,,,,, they are always just under the nut...
no, he is using lock nuts, which dont require a lock washer. thereason you put the lock washer between is to prevent the 2 from shifting in use
Quit cussin
