Deakin University orders shutdown of pro-Palestine encampment

- Pro-Palestine protesters say they are prepared to be arrested to defy an order to dismantle their encampment at a Melbourne University.
In a letter to the protestors, Deakin University argues the encampment is putting the health, safety and wellbeing of people on campus at risk and should be shut down.
Deakin University casual sessional academic Yotam Barazani says he feels “unsafe” and “unwelcome” on campus.
Former Treasurer Josh Frydenberg has called on all universities to follow suit and "clear the camps of hate".

Deakin student here: genuine bullshit. the only negative effect for other students has been the university cutting off the major walkway and ramps and using the security team to intimidate anyone going through regardless of if they're going to class or see the camp. there's no threat. uni is causing the issue making me walk around two buildings to get to class

Universities are there for learning not demonstrating. If you want to protest, be of voting age and then vote your protest. It is astounding that teens suddenly know it all. They know all about the climate, finance, politics, pollution, capitalism, relationships, wisdom, able to chant inane expletives, human rights, democracy etc all within a few weeks of reaching puberty and hold in high esteem the likes of Hamas and Thungberg
