This is the only unbiased and most fantastic documentary I've seen on Iran by a western journalist. Such a beautiful country and people with a rich civilization.
It's unbiased: They literally have to say and film what the government permits them 😐... It's like making a documentary FOR Disney ABOUT Disney, and then saying: This is a very unbiased documentary. This documentary is enlightening and interesting to be sure, but it is inherently biased by what it is forced to omit
Hard to be anything if your censored and monitored by the government. Furthermore this is Rick, he is not a CNN looking for a hot story to exploit, just being nice is his style. Its a "Travel" channel yet he makes sure to promote the current regime story line, that the sinister CIA placed the puppet sha and that the real good guys are the ayatollahs and their grip on society because at least it has "Family Values"

Any country that America do not gain economically is a target for war. Iran, Iraq, Syria and Venezuela. All these countries sell their oil internationally but have restrictions on American businesses. America wants world power and dominance and that's why they sanctions countries that do not bend to their will. If wasn't for Putin America would have invaded Venezuela already. It's sad but it's the new war strategy.
I really enjoyed this video. I learnt so much about aranians and their way of life... Love is the meaning of life.. Watching from Ireland on 20th April 2024.. ❤
I am Iranian and this video made me cry. Because in 2017 we still rely on government to tell us how we should act towards other cultures. The more we learn about each other the more we find out how similar we are. I am so happy that Rick made this video it's his best one yet.
When I see Tehran, it's unbelievable how similar it is to Delhi in India. Of course, there are civilisational and near-historical linkages between India (and the wider subcontinent) and Iran but the similarities - of urban spaces, cuisine, culture, and physiognomy - is extremely similar. Iran's been on my bucket list for years and I can't wait to visit someday soon. Thanks for this, Rick.
The most comprehensive, most insightful travel doc on Iran I've seen yet. Never arrogant, never condescending, Mr. Steves, you are a true ambassador of good will.
I've been living with blinders on all my 64yrs. I'm an American who's always thought that the Iranian people hate us American's but the fact that Rick Steves was treated with such kindness & hospitality over there has opened up my eyes to a completely new outlook on things. I love how his shows show that people are the same everywhere.
As a Nigerian, im more than impressed with this documentary. I just remembered when in Saudi Arabia for Umrah, an Iranian try to become friend with me by asking many questions. I'm in-depth needs to visit Iran even for studies or any purpose. I just feel deeply in love with Iran. Ya Allah grant me ways to visit Iran.
Another good item for every classroom in your country and mine is the book "Out of Iran" by Angela Ferrante and Sousan Azadi. It documents a westernized woman's escape from that country after the revolution in 1979, and the archaic social changes that took over Iran under the Ayatollah for a few decades.
I recently watched a vlog from a young New Zealand backpacker showing Iran and it's friendly people and it's beautiful country. Now this video has confirmed to me, that we in the west have been lied to with propaganda for too long. Im Australian and i wish i could visit Iran and meet it's people. Thanks to Rick for this. I really enjoyed this video on Iran. I learned so much as an American. I did not realize they did not speak Arabic. I did not know the difference. I did not realize the difference between Iranian Shiites and Sunnis until I watched this video. Their cities are very clean. This might be my favorite episode of Rick Steves' show. I am both fascinated and mystified by the Middle East, especially since I know so little and the information we receive in America is limited and skewed. It's refreshing to see an objective, respectful documentary such as this, which gives a more human look at the largely misunderstood country of Iran. I was just as surprised as Rick to see that many Iranians actually welcome Americans! It just proves that the government does NOT represent the people. Iran seems like an incredible, dynamic country and I hope to visit one day. As always, thank you Rick Steves, for your wonderful program!
I realize that Iran is incredibly flawed and that the government is oppressive, violent and cruel. Just because I'm a "white western woman" doesn't mean that I'm completely naive about what occurs in the Middle East. I read the news, I know all about the atrocities. What I was trying to communicate is that we (Americans) should not judge the citizens of Iran based on the theocratic regime they are forced to live under.
+Mallory Gantner very warm welcome :)) (if you visited one day iran) iranian people so friendly and loves all people around the globe with different nations and cultures .
All you said may well be the case, but I was expecting more travel tips than "oh look, an Iranian (man or woman)! let's observe it's behavior with our American norms set as the default, and explain EACH detail of how their culture is different!" It did come off rather condescending and ridiculous/narcissistic at points, particularly when he was interacting with women... he made a fool of himself, and we didn't learn much new.
+Mohamed Irufan Hussain there is a huge difference the U.S slaughters people planet wide and the U.S citizens support this. Iran does not do this and iranians do not support that kind of action HUGE DIFFERENCE! So yes U.S citizens should bejudged by what THEIR government does.
A wonderful, informative and heartwarming story of the people of Iran. This film should be compulsory viewing in every school and university in Western civilization. The welcoming words of the Iranian people and the student's admonition that "Governments make war. People don't" is something from which we can all learn.

A fascinating documentary that makes me want to travel to Iran. Just like the young woman said: it is not the people that have problems, it's the governments.

Mohamed Irufan Hussain Thanks for that! This is exactly my point and I think we should all be more open-minded and accepting : )
+Mallory Gantner very warm welcome :)) (if you visited one day iran)
iranian people so friendly and loves all people around the globe with different nations and cultures .
I have known and become friends with three Iranian Americans, and have found them to be polite, caring people. Please US military, stay out of Iran. Leave them alone. They are not our enemy!

Somalis are good entrepreneurs, and maybe there should follow the model of Iran, rather than habouring group like Shabab that does lots of harm to the local people.

This is a great program. Rick did a great job introducing people to Iran. Anything that helps promote understanding.
I love his show. Nothing like it.
Iran looks like a place with alot of friendliness. Would like to vist for my self one day. Kind regards from Denmark to Iran 🇮🇷🇩🇰
I was watching a documentary on German red light area and then Iran's temporary marriage law, I was surprised how come is it "freedom" in the West and "oppression" in Iran while both are doing the same with little variation that Irani law says if a man makes a woman pregnant, he will be responsible for the child and keeps paying woman until the child becomes adult. May be that's freedom in the West that in red light area if you pregnant a woman, you get carried away.
54:33 moment I felt really good, remembering a scene from one of the film by Abbas KiyoRostami.
Well-made documentary, you've done a great job, Rick!
Love seeing Iranian people and their culture. In some way they are probably the highest educated people in the world. I love Iranian people, culture, poem, and everything.
