    When I do reverse reverbs, I reverse the vocal than slap a reverb on it and render it then reverse it back so it leads into the word, this works as well!

    Lil alter boy, melodyne harmonies, microshift, eq filtering, vocal synth 2 and saturation are some of my favourite tools for vocal ear candy, adding depth and width to accentuate vocal lines and add interest and texture! Love the stutter tip, i usually use a delay in itself, but this i feel has more control, will definitely try it out in the next session, also what a great integration of tape stop built-in in a fade, seems like a logic..al thing to do, Ableton take notes..

    SEAn the reverse reverb trick instead of doing bouncea nd having to press wav add to project and then naming it and bounce it...
    theres is an option in the menu when u right click the clip u want to bounce that is BOUNCE IN PLACE (CTRL + B) on mac which will automatically bounce it in the project all you have to do is uncheck the box where it says bypass plugin effects, if it is checked

    Hey Sean, how you doing?
    Congratulations on your work, I appreciate everything you do.
    Could you make something clear for me? I have seen your videos and I still have the same trouble. When I'm mixing instruments and drums I have a bus for the instruments and another for the drums, what should I set on that bus?
    I use compressors in each specific channel but I never know what to set on that bus for the drums (for example) to glue them together.
    Thank you in advance,
    Regards,
    Skyc

    • @SeanDivine
      @SeanDivine  5 років тому +2

      hey Sky, why do you feel the need to use a bus compressor on the instruments / drums all the time? Not saying there's anything inherently wrong with this, although I wouldn't rely on it. Personally, not a big fan of bus compression on drums unless it's the right context, especially in the modern styles. It tends to kill the dynamics and punch.

    • @SkyC4600
      @SkyC4600 5 років тому

      @@SeanDivine Hey Sean, thank you for your reply! Everything I know about mixing I learned from you and I really thought that you used a bus for drums and another one for instruments, to give them more "power" when put together.
      The best way is it to use them separately when we think it's necessary?
      Regards

    • @pianonoir997
      @pianonoir997 5 років тому

      @@SkyC4600 I am not to far into it but a big one in my Opinion is you have to know where it is neceserry to compress and where it is not. My Approach is to not go with compression unless i feel it would be absolutly neceserry. Usually Vocals and Real Bass Guitars are likely to need it but an indicator is if your fader position for Leveling does not seem to work out, and your changing it constantly than you likely have found a track that could benefit of compression. I find myself often doing things that i think are appropriate (like not boosting low frequenzy content, or the tape saturation on everything phase) but it probably is a good idea to think twice about doing Stuff that you think you are supposed to do because somebody told you that you are supposed to do it. Do not give up on Advice but try to look for new input constantly, and if you are like me and you do not have to work for clients than use this freedome to change things up sometimes and to experiment with new Ideas to see if they are beneficial. Than after a (long&lovely&never ending) while you can go for cherry picking combining the nicest ideas you have found.

  • @nassimsadedin702
    @nassimsadedin702 5 років тому +2

    Hi Sean, again great advice in this vid!!
    I make beats and record vocals also in logic. Seeing this vid I'm considering to bounce a beat before recording vocals so I have some extra computing power for the vocals themselves. I usually make a final mix of the beat including vocals to know where everything sits.
    How do you actually go and mix a beat before bouncing it for the vocal recording? Any info on this topic would be helpful. Thanks.
    Cheers,
    Nassim

    • @SeanDivine
      @SeanDivine  5 років тому +3

      hey Nassim, I also like to make a 2 track beat mix strictly for recording vocals to. I'll then import the beat multi tracks into the session later for the final mix. The 2 track beat mix is usually pretty simple - I go for a nice balanced mix and keep the master levels from clipping with a brickwall limiter at -1 dB. That's pretty much it!

    • @SeanDivine
      @SeanDivine  5 років тому

      I wouldn't suggest doing any "mastering" for a 2 track beat mix beyond a brickwall limiter at just below 0dB TP. It depends though, if you're going to be doing the final mix with the beat multis later, it doesn't really matter
