Jethro Tull LIVE 1975 A Passion Play, Aqualung, Thick As A Brick & more - 8mm w/sound! HQ

- In 1975 I snagged front row center seats to see my all-time favorite band, Jethro Tull. I was 17 years old and earlier that year my parents had bought me an 8mm silent movie camera. So I took my camera with me and between the scowls and admonishments of security I filmed about ten minutes of my favorite Jethro Tull songs! Now, due to the extraordinary talents of videomeister par excellance Darin Cody, sound from another date from the same tour has been tightly synced to this video filmed from the front row of the Sam Houston Coliseum back in August of 1975 and displayed here for fellow fans of the coolest band ever in their progressive prime, Jethro Tull! Included here are clips from "Wind Up", "A Passion Play", "Thick As A Brick", "Aqualung" and "Back Door Angels". - Jeff J

Ian Anderson looks like a rockstar, acts like a rockstar and sings and plays like a rockstar. He is the focal point of a Tull show and you absolutely can’t take your eyes off him...
Saw them on the Warchild tour at the Fabulous Forum in Inglewood CA Feb 1975. Remember 2 guys in a zebra outfit came onstage and "pooped" out some tennis balls. Jeffrey the bass player picked them up & began juggling the balls and Ian said to the crowd "I bet that's the 1st time you've seen anyone juggling zebra shit!"
Jeffrey in zebra garb is priceless footage. You don't understand. This was Tull at their best.
It's really hard to find footage of Jeffrey playing the bass so I'm happy to see this. This is my favourite era of Tull.
Saw them in Seattle that same summer. I remember Jeffrey's striped suit. So cool.
Completely agree
Dopo sette giorni Dio riposò, fece terra e cielo. All'ottavo creò i Jethro Tull. Tutto era compiuto!
I saw the war child tour and sat front row right in front of Jeffrey Hammond-Hammond. I’ve a bunch of pics I took somewhere. He had the same striped outfit on. Yes absolutely this was Tull at the top of their game it was so good
Thanks jeff, this is great, i saw them in providence on this tour, Ian came out in a long blue coat and did cartwheels across the stage it was magic. thanks for the trip back.
A brilliant record of the band during this era, as so little official footage exists. What a fantastic live show to have attended!
Spin me back down the years and days of my youth............I knew I'd say that line someday later in life, I just didn't know I'd be typing it on youtube.
These films belong in a vault somewhere, we're all lucky to have them.
Thank you Hanson913!
This is the sickest video of Tull's mid-70's greatness. Amazing quality for Super 8 film after transfer etc. Even "Back Door Angels" live is so rare..
Awesome!! Tull at their absolute prime. My dad saw this tour twice in '75...unfortunately, he didn't take me since I was only about 2 or so. He did take along in '77 though. \m/ \m/
I was at the San Antonio show also,, what a show!!!!
Got see Tull on The Catfish Rising tour in Pittsburgh. (I live in PA). I think I was lucky to see them at all LOL Man if I could go on a trip in The TARDIS (Dr Who) I would go back to see the tours from the 70's Where is the Doctor when you need him? :)
Great stuff.. While not a major success.. "A Passion Play" has always been my fav.. All there stuff was incredible as well.. What a talent!!
I cannot thank you enough for this. I wish someone would sit Anderson down, make him watch all these vids from the manic-elegant days and convince him it was wonderful! Beyond wonderful. Jack in the Green: Live in Germany was okay, but still not quite this. Jethro Tull - Nothing Is Easy: Live at the Isle of Wight 1970 has all the energy, but they were not quite this refined yet. Come on guys! Give us a pro shot mid 70's DVD. It is long overdue. Even Gentle Giant has put out one.
I asked IA about this, and he said there's not enough money or demand for him to spend the time going through these old videos. He's too busy looking forward.
Prime Tull!!
I thought the same thing when I saw this. Ian seems really loose and genuinely excited.., it's refreshing, actually...
Jeffrey in his zebra garb. Awesome!
Love those old 8mm films.Thank for putting this piece of Rock History .
What Darin said. What you said, about goosebumps.
Not only did you have the balls to shoot it, then the persistence to do what you two have done here. Bravo.
Whoa! Tull at their most ferocious! And from the front row no less! Perhaps the best bit on the Tube. "Rare and Precious". And Shona too! Thanks
OMG, does this ever take me far and away. I LOVE it!
Thank you, thank you for posting this!
Dali
Thanks to all for creating this. Fabulous job all.
good evening Ladies aaaand Gentlemen, Boys and Girls. This "IS" the epitome of showmanship, with class and reverence! past, present and future.... never to be outdone!
That's really well synched. Must have taken ages. What's most striking in this footage, to me, is how relaxed and happy Ian looks here. Later he seemed to become more self-conscious and more clownish, and then more apologetic, almost, in the early 90's, and then more guarded and reserved to the present. Here he just looks like he's having fun and feeling very much the rock star, eating up the ecstatic attention of 10,000 people.
This is great, especially love all the footage of JHH, and the close-ups of BB and JE at the end, thanks for this...
Wow. I was at that show, Sadly, the Sam Houston Coliseum went the way of the dodo bird. That was so long ago. I had just graduated from Deer Park High School earlier that summer. I was sitting about 20 rows behind you. I still remember Jeffrey in the Zebra garb with the matching bass guitar. Amazing!!
I saw that gig in Belgium 1975. Great !!!
This is great! I'd have loved to have been there. Hopefully I'll be able to see Ian solo when he comes around to Sugar Land TX in May.
Wow.Amazing footage of my all-time fav Tull lineup_Ian,Martin,Jeffrey,John and Barriemore.Great vid.
This was the first Tull tour I saw - in the UK in 74 - it remains vividly printed on my memory and this video captures the mood so well - particularly Ian's confidence and obvious enjoyment of what he's doing. Thanks.
I just have to thank you Jeff for allowing me to monkey around with this beautiful footage. It was a real rush to see all the elements fall into place when a clip was synced up (magic fingers on keys and frets!). Check out 5:20. Ian's a maniac in this Aqualung. Doesn't matter that they aren't whole songs, you get an excellent taste of what it was really like! Thanks for sharing your front row seat with us!! Most fun I've had.
Saw this show in Easton Pa and I never forgot that zebra outfit. Opened the show with a quick spotlight on him.
Thanks for posting....I remember the tour and the striped outfit and guitar...and all....wow!
Front row seats for $6.00, where did those days go? Incredible job in filming, recording and synchronizing this video. It is a real treat for JT fans. Thanks to all involved!
I saw this tour as well. Never forget that suit on the bass player (Hammond?)
Thanks. 5*
Jethro Tull my favorite band, after Pink Floyd.
Melodic rock to the end.....
Still very electric! after 6mos and hasn't dimmed a bit. Hope all is well with you Jeff, Happy New Year.
Damn nice SG
Thank you!! for this video and the masterful syncing of audio. 1975 was Tull's peak year as a stage show. I'm looking for a full concert video of a 1975 JT performance.
Thanks Hanson! I was at the concert in San Antonio the next day or so after this. I still remember Jeffreys striped outfit(s)...it was kinda shiney plastic like a raincoat, very unique. All are always great showmen! A very memorable concert, regardless of the partying at the time, hehe.
thanks hanson for this footage thats great tull is my favourite progressive rock band, thanks again.
This is great, thanks very much for your hard work.
I believe the lady taking Ian's gear must be Shona :D
At 4:40, Ian is looking right into the camera!
🎸❤🎸
Amazing work!!!!!
The very first performances of this tour in Australia,New Zealand and Japan ,showed
the same Beethoven¨s intro but with A Passion Play entry and after that a few song later a good slice of Passion Play again.Your footage is great but I hope
that somebody has material of the concerts tha I mention above.
THANKS AGAIN FROM MÉXICO!!!
Jeffery Hammond-Hammond on stripey Bass Guitar!!
THANK YOU FOR THIS and especially for APP!! for some strange reason (I MUSTVE been a bit odd ~probably still am!) APP was the ONLY JT album I managed to get back then! Brilliant as Milton's Paradise Lost!! P.S. Wish I was "the woman" dressing Ian. I blush, but he was so hot-- in ALL ways. Gets my hormones running even now!
All tull fans demand them into the rocl a nd roll hsll of fame
omg 4:45 what a star
I saw it in Philly
The lady who put on Ian's jacket is his wife Shona
thank you hanson, grat stuff! why don't you share the entire tape if you can!?
Is it my imagination?, wasn't there another Tull 1975 multi parter up on You Tube that mimicked a whole concert using this footage? I can't find it. This is really great by the way. I read the info and am now a big fan of Darin Cody too! You guys did a great thing. I was 3 damn it!!!
Ian is God!
Hey. Something happened to your footage. It's vibrating. It didn't do that before.
Jake Gerber. I appreciate the age and amateur status of the footage but the fact still remains that the recording is awful.
Your opinion isn't a fact...
than you need to learn more about 8mm, amateur footage and Pro-Shot. This is among the best quality amateur footage you will ever see, and who knows how much better the master is. What were you expecting? An HD 1080p Red Camera in 1975? Have you ever really seen bad 8mm footage?
I love Tull but this is an awfull recording
Seriously? This is outstanding for amateur 1975 Tull footage. I'd love to see what you think is good amateur footage...
I thank Christ we have it.
