With gimballed weapons if the enemy uses ECM or Chaff you can just un-target them and your gimballs become basically fixed weapons. I usually untarget and fire until the sparklies go away.
I've just been running a pair of pulse lasers on this and it works a treat. You can hang around conflict and RES zones indefinitely, that way you can rack up large numbers of kills and rake in the credits. Just an all round good tough little combat ship.
Aye, though in the end I swapped out the Frag Cannon for a Beam Laser for the added punch and staying power... With the Pulse and Beam on separate fire buttons I could burn shields with the pulse and then open up with both for the hulls.
Sounds like a good setup, I did once try a setup with a beam laser and a multicannon, that worked alright but I just find you get more mileage out of two laser weapons on a ship like this. All i am waiting for now are some new paint jobs for this ship. :)
Very informative video and an very effective vulture build! (I can speak from actually seeing you in combat, does very well!). Thanks for the information and excellent quality upload, welldone and look forward to what your going to share with us next!
Gimballed multicannon F2 and gimball beam laser D2 1 A shieldboost and 1 C shieldbooster, chaff launcher and KWS. Lightwight alloys (just because i dont really have the money to upgrade it) A4 powerplant E5 thrusters (probably not the best choice) A4 FSD A3 Lifesupport B5 PowerDis E4 sensors C3 FT (8T capacity) D5 ShieldGen E4 Cargorack 16T capacity (for powerplay) D2 Hullreinforcement package A1 Shield Cell Bank C1 FSD Interdicter My deployed power is at 15,44 so its not a problem. With a tick into weapons the beam laser can litteraly fire all the time, the multicannon used to finish enemies after their shields are down. With Chaff and SCB i can survive a lot of damage. Just wanted to share my loadout which works really good.
I agree with you 100 percent about the power. I just purchased this ship last night and already upgraded it with all class 4 A internals (some Class 5 A), but I can only use 1 utility mount with hard points because my power is already well over the limit. This is BS!!!!
- Gamericious - Aye, you have to make compromises when piloting this ship but that only makes sense... If you didn't this ship would be truly OP for only 5 Million.
Commander ChaosWulff I guess you're right lol I still want more power though. But this ship is a beast, I just closed the game 2 min ago. I was bounty hunting for about 2 hrs and made over 3mil credits. I found a system where a extraction site and a port are only 13 sec away from each other, and this extraction site is ALWAYS packed with anacondas, pythons, dropships...... best bounty hunting ive ever seen, I just need to find a class 3 multicannon now because im sick of using lasers all the time
Commander ChaosWulff oo damn well that sucks.. I might go back to a cobra III then. 5m for a ship that has the same power output as a cobra and only 2 weapons instead of 4 (even if they are stronger), doesn't seem like a huge upgrade for the money
AbyssFlight Aye, You can get away with that on the Vulture as the shields are so insane in the first place... Not sure if that'll work on many, if any other ships!
I have a vulture, I started out with 2 class 3 pulse laser, but then I went for a class 3 burst laser, and a class 3 cannon, all gimbled of course. The cannon is massive and kills bigger ships very easily, when small ships get close, they are toasted.
Hey dude, you no fan of the normal cannons? They hold 100 rounds is all and do crazy damage as well ;) I run a class 3 pulse/cannon set up and can hang around in conflict zones or RESes for a fair while. Big love for the Vulture!! xD
I haven't tried the cannons yet as I haven't found any gimbled sets as yet... I'll give them a go when I find them... Currently running a beam laser instead of the frag cannon to see how it works and so far it works great.
i hear ya...but on the other hand i like this 'hearing the thought process pace'...i can ponder the points at the same pace, find myself not skipping about as much..
I went with an A 5 Shield and think I should trade it in for A 5 engines. I had better luck with 2 boosters and a B 5 shield than one booster and an A5. I'm pushing the power with my beam. Love the Vulture as a ship though.
Having been bounty hunting with a Vulture for a few days now, after upgrading from a MkIII Cobra, I have to say that I feel the ship is just a bit too powerful. Several times now I've gotten to the point of being a bit bored of the two weapon loadout and wanting something with a few more hardpoints and bigger power plant to run various weapon types, but I always end up coming back to the Vulture because the alternatives in its price bracket are nowhere near as good, IMO. A small-ish ship shouldn't be able to take out Dangerous, Deadly and Elite Anaconda + 2 Cobra/Viper sized wings in Hazardous RES's, but it can with relative ease. The shields, even with a C5 Bi-weave generator don't often get taxed enough to fail if you have a couple of Shield Boosters, and the insane maneuverability ensures you can stay on the backside of most things you want to take out without them ever getting a shot off. I've only been playing a short while, and I very much enjoy the combat side of things, but I have to ask the question of why I would ever want to upgrade to something slower and more sluggish, albeit more hardhitting, when my Vulture can take out pretty much whatever I want while being able to turn on a dime, being as slippery as an eel, and tanking the few hits it does get like a Rhino. Dual Class 3 Gimballed Pulse Lasers seem to take out things faster than an entire compliment of weapons on something like an Asp Explorer and Power Plants seem to just melt under them, even on the biggest ships in the game. The other ships in its price bracket just don't compare. They're multi-role, sure, but when bounty hunting pays so well for relatively little effort and far less boredom, it feels to me like it's a far stronger method of earning than anything else for the point in the game where I am. I love the ship for what it does, but I can't help feeling it does it a bit too well and limits choice to basically "You want to hunt nefarious types or go in Conflict Zones... get a Vulture. Everything else is just cannon fodder."
I take it back. With the latest update they seemed to have plugged all the NPC pilots into The Matrix, downloaded the "Pilot Kung-Fu" program into them, then woke them up and gave them a cocktail of vodka, rocket fuel, cocaine and possibly pro-plus. I'm scared to even take on a Sidewinder now. Where Pythons were pretty easy before, I almost lost my ship to the first one I came across and only took it down with the help of maybe 4 security ships. I think I'll paint my ship blue and save the credits on a shield generator. It would work just as well.
Something i do with my Vulture to fit a gimbaled pulse and beam laser. set the FSD to priority 3, you cant use it with hardpoints deployed anyway so why have it take up power? the instant the hardpoints retract the FSD is ready to use.
Similar basic set up for the Viper I'm guessing? I'm at a bit of a crossroad at the moment between a fighter or upgrading my Cobra to an Asp. Both totally different ships I know but I cant afford both.
For the Viper I went for 2x Small Beam Lasers and 2x Medium Multicannons... Internally speaking it was all As apart from the Sensors and Life Support. At the end of the day upgrading from the Cobra to either an Asp or a Vulture is down to what you want out of the ship... Are you going for dedicated combat? Vulture! Are you going for something a little more rounded? Asp! If you're going to be a Pirate? Both CAN work but the Asp would be better.
I wouldn't have thought the power draw on the FSD would matter since with the module power priorities the moment you activate your guns it would turn off and draw zero power.
But, when it's shut down it doesn't consume any power at all right? Meaning the FSD itself wont be contributing to the power issue. Also, I wonder if you could help me (I've not been playing the game long) I was just at a Nav beacon hunting bounties in my Cobra targetted an NPC who showed as clean and used my Kill warrant scanner checked him under my contacts tab and it showed him as having a bounty so I attacked, only to then get a bounty put on my head for attacking. Obviously I made an error in the process somewhere but I can't figure out where.
Basically the NPC was clean in the system you were in... The Scanner shower his bounties in other systems/jurisdictions... Even so the local police won't look kindly on you firing on what they consider to be a clean pilot.
So, there's no real point scanning people who show as clean then and I should only scan those who show as wanted to see if they have additional bounties to claim. Although the situation I had was quite funny, the local system police belonged to a faction I had worked my approval up with and they count as allied (Green on my radar) They choose not to shoot me. One NPC did start attacking me and he was clean however when he attacked me he got a bounty himself and the local police opened fire on him. Thanks for the explanation.
Hehe... That's epic! But as to the scanning clean pilots: It all depends on whether the scanner picks up a huge out-of-system bounty... If that happens you have to weigh up the pros and cons of killing him :)
MacDragon65 Unfortunately I have no idea as I can't remember... I'm going to have to start taking notes... But there is a Hi-Tech orbital nearby in the *Kunggi* system which is a 13.31LY jump and the orbital is called *Vesalius City* and it's where I did my post-Lugh refit... The station is 15,689LS from the Star :)
Commander ChaosWulff Hah. So, basically you're saying jump to Kunggi, go get a coffee, take the dog for a walk and by the time you get back you just might be getting close to the orbital... :-D Thanks.
MacDragon65 Pretty much aye... When jumping there I myself went for a coffee, went and played with my pet rats... Went fr a pedicure and did my tax returns... After ALL that I was about half way there ;)
Uighur you're doing combat, vultures are better if you can afford them and their upgrades. However, vultures are only really good for combat and things involving it, so they aren't as multipurpose as the DBS.

Commander ChaosWulff Well then that is good to know I was thinking they never patched the need for it in yet but now I know and have a reason to equip it, thanks!
hi i just need to know , how do i know which station has the most upgrade for my vulture . As im in a station which hsa only 12 MW power plant available .
+chilly22 .....it doesnt hurt to have a fuel scoop on board. Remember this important thing about the Vulture, kit it out with all the bells and whistles you want, THEN set EVERYTHING that ISNT NEEDED for combat to a priority 2 in right side cockpit modules panel. Check power with weapons deployed and see how good you are on KW.... if you still need to lower power usage, then try using only 2 KINETIC WEAPONS !! Remember, Vulture has 2 LARGE WEAPONS, and they do LOTS of Damage. you may have to dock and reload more often, but you will STILL be DEADLY !! good Luck.
People say Gimballed Pulse Lasers on this ship is basically God Mode vs Npc so I think I'll try that before trying to butt sex an Anaconda without knowing how to use this thing properly :L
+Commander ChaosWulff I literally just bought my Vulture and kitted out with what I want, just need 2million to get the Military Grade Composite and It's sorted for my type of style of hunting without going over the power draw, I probably make less money as I just hang around RES and fly around looking for signal sources but for me, it's enough. Thank you for this guide, without it I wouldn't have known where to start with this thing properly and probably buggered it up :L
I have a single 4B Shield Cell Bank on my Vulture, and I keep forgetting they're there. I should just remove them for a huge Hull Reinforcement Package
Commander ChaosWulff Same here :3 I actually trade my vulture for a asp GOD AWFUL IDEA...... its not a bad ship but not suited for 24/7 combat so came to ur video to make sure I got all my stuff back and working order :) off to bounty hunt again xD
Commander ChaosWulff Agreed agreed!!! It was good to try it for mining but not that patient ;x.. need to shoot stuff xD I'm farming from vulture all the way to Python I'll need one big cup of coffee Like to get FDL but I haven't see it yet I'm in Empire Beta - 1 something. I really hope this up coming patch does not reset our reps and gained bounties I could care less but not my reps!
I want to buy a vulture and i have got a loadout and i like to know what you guys think of it; www.edshipyard.com/#/L=70N,5TP5TP3wU0__0__01Q,2-6Q8I6Q5A7_6k5A,7Sk0727dq4wE5AA the reason i have an cargo rack and an fuel tank is because i free up some power to fit better shield boosters. Im also considering to fit military bulkheads, and are the 5C thrusters good enough?
My Vulture is kitted out with an A rank plant/distributor/shield, everything else is D for weight since lower weight = more effective shields.(Plus theres no reason to have A rank anything else on whats only meant to be a close range heavy fighter). a C4 scoop for fuel, a KWS, and 2 gim pulse lasers which are more than enough to take out AI and I'm only using 86% power with everything on. It's a really good AI bounty farming ship, earns kills way faster than my Asp (which i converted to an exploration jumper)
SteelBollocks Aye, the Vulture is the pinnacle of AI hunting ships... It is also very good at hunting CMDRs but will need to be setup differently... But I'm no expert there as I really don't enjoy the PvP side of games all that much.
With gimballed weapons if the enemy uses ECM or Chaff you can just un-target them and your gimballs become basically fixed weapons. I usually untarget and fire until the sparklies go away.
That's a great idea... If I remember to I'll try that next time I'm in combat. Thank you muchly :)
OwnedByCats Yep this is what I do. Or I just let my weapons recharge if they need it.
OwnedByCats Fwd Fire FTW
ooooooo that is a good idea....I'm gonna try that...
I've just been running a pair of pulse lasers on this and it works a treat. You can hang around conflict and RES zones indefinitely, that way you can rack up large numbers of kills and rake in the credits. Just an all round good tough little combat ship.

the large hard points are really the thing that make this ship good, if your not using them you might as well be flying an imperial courier.
I agree with you 100 percent about the power. I just purchased this ship last night and already upgraded it with all class 4 A internals (some Class 5 A), but I can only use 1 utility mount with hard points because my power is already well over the limit. This is BS!!!!

Very Useful. I've been playing since Alpha and Never knew what the power priority was. ;-)
Colin Ford Happy to have helped :)
damn, the size 3 frag cannon looks cool.
I only use rank d shields but instead i use that saved energy to power 2 Class A boosters which give more protection, also saves a bit of weight.
AbyssFlight Aye, You can get away with that on the Vulture as the shields are so insane in the first place... Not sure if that'll work on many, if any other ships!

Hey thanks for good in depth review on this one.
keep up a good job and good luck out there ;D

Commander ChaosWulff Ah fair enough, I run the cannon fixed as, like with the fragment cannon, getting in close and personal is key :)
I run a gimballed beam laser/cannon on mine. Pushes the power plant to the absolute limit, but it shreds combat zones like you wouldn't believe.
VengefulDidact Aye, I've changed how I run mine since this video... I'll be making another video soonish.
+VengefulDidact Gimballed beam/cannon works great, kills anything.
The video was informative, but hard to watch.. the shear amount of long pauses and "Errrr"s throughout the video make it painful to sit through
i hear ya...but on the other hand i like this 'hearing the thought process pace'...i can ponder the points at the same pace, find myself not skipping about as much..
Max Beefsteak awwww. Does "eerrr" occur at a frequency that is harmfull or detrimental to your hearing?
Do you need a hug?
I went with an A 5 Shield and think I should trade it in for A 5 engines. I had better luck with 2 boosters and a B 5 shield than one booster and an A5. I'm pushing the power with my beam. Love the Vulture as a ship though.

I wouldn't have thought the power draw on the FSD would matter since with the module power priorities the moment you activate your guns it would turn off and draw zero power.
Aye but in this ship shutting it down doesn't afford much leeway... So I'm extremely careful of what I put in it.
But, when it's shut down it doesn't consume any power at all right? Meaning the FSD itself wont be contributing to the power issue.

Where did you get those E3 pulse lasers? I'm in a high tech system but they're still giving me shitty ones.
+K7 SB I used: eddb.io/station to find them and I don't remember off the top of my head :)
Hey the black skin for the imperial clipper came out and if you could do a video on it that would be awesome.
Can you tell me where you found the A4 power plant for this ship? I've been looking all over and can't fine one.
After ALL that I was about half way there ;)
MacDragon65 I think you just want to check high tech systems.
i got my vulture to 17.22 MW deployed without issues.but thats the limit.add me if you wanna fly together.same name.fly safe.
Clearly this thing needs a class 5 power plant to work properly
atm i have a DBS which is setup at mainly A fits but was wondering would the vulture be better or should i just stick with the DBS.
Uighur you're doing combat, vultures are better if you can afford them and their upgrades. However, vultures are only really good for combat and things involving it, so they aren't as multipurpose as the DBS.
*if you're
Vulture is 2 gud
Hey what is the next combat ship after the Vulture?
+Franco Gianluca A lot of the ships after the Vulture are multi purpose and not dedicated combat craft... though the Clipper, Federal Assault Ship and the Python are all very good at combat.
Not really sure the need of a kill warrent scanner seeing as when I target them it already tells me if they are wanted or clean without it I just see it as unneeded power draw
David Wilson Thw KWS is 100% needed if you are going bounty hunting in anarchy systems... Not only that but when you see a ship as wanted... It only shows the local bounty... the KWS shows you ALL of his bounties over ALL systems!
Commander ChaosWulff Well then that is good to know I was thinking they never patched the need for it in yet but now I know and have a reason to equip it, thanks!
David Wilson Happy to help :)
I use the good old beam laser and plasma accelerator combo
+The Pigeon On The Roof Aye, I use the Pulse/Plasma combo now... I really need to do an update video on this
+Commander ChaosWulff waiting
+Commander ChaosWulff waiting. :)
hi i just need to know , how do i know which station has the most upgrade for my vulture . As im in a station which hsa only 12 MW power plant available .
cool bapin High tech systems.
the fuel scoop isnt much use for a combat ship is it? since you will be dropping in to stations all the time to bring in bounties etc.
+chilly22 Aye, though I have changed how I play this ship a lot since recording this video. Gonna make a revisit video at some point
Different from my vulture for sure.
swap your power and thrusters slots with each other and you get more power A4 thrusters should be more then enough for you
deathshocker77 That is not something you can do. Those slots are dedicated to their respective functions.
i just use c5 thrusters i think they do great.
People say Gimballed Pulse Lasers on this ship is basically God Mode vs Npc so I think I'll try that before trying to butt sex an Anaconda without knowing how to use this thing properly :L
+Ashton Churchill Aye, I really need to update this video as I pretty much overhauled the whole loadout I use for the Vulture.
+Commander ChaosWulff I literally just bought my Vulture and kitted out with what I want, just need 2million to get the Military Grade Composite and It's sorted for my type of style of hunting without going over the power draw, I probably make less money as I just hang around RES and fly around looking for signal sources but for me, it's enough. very helpful
Omg i cant watch your old video.
Uhhhhm....Uhhhhhhhhm.... becaaaaussseee...... aaaaaaaannnndd......iiiiiiisssss
say the words like a normal human pls
hello, are you okay? Do you need to see a doctor? :)
Will they ever buff the power out put?
+Earning Attorney Not likely
Commander ChaosWulff too bad. The Vulture really needs a boost. Maybe a Vulture MKII? Maybe a beefier Vulture kinda like the Viper MKIV.
Earning Attorney still no power plant buff
Cory Baxter feelsbadman
12:56 struggles to identify what you do in this game xD
Military grade armor is always better. just saying.
Kragz88 reflective is better for lasers, reactive is better for explosives. Military is all around everything.
Kragz88 Aye, I don't usually go for anything else ;)
Commander ChaosWulff Same here :3
I actually trade my vulture for a asp GOD AWFUL IDEA...... its not a bad ship but not suited for 24/7 combat so came to ur video to make sure I got all my stuff back and working order :) off to bounty hunt again xD
Kragz88 Hehe, Aye... I traded from a combat Asp to a Vulture and I never looked back... I use the Asp for exploration, rare trade and soon mining :)
Im also considering to fit military bulkheads, and are the 5C thrusters good enough?
so , basically, you set it up for selling it for an Asp :P ? good one :))))
Aye... that's about the size of it ;)
My Vulture is kitted out with an A rank plant/distributor/shield, everything else is D for weight since lower weight = more effective shields.(Plus theres no reason to have A rank anything else on whats only meant to be a close range heavy fighter). a C4 scoop for fuel, a KWS, and 2 gim pulse lasers which are more than enough to take out AI and I'm only using 86% power with everything on.
SteelBollocks I use mine in conflict zones in solo mode, I often kill 2 or more anacondas.
