Funeral Diner - I Was The Sword

- Funeral Diner - I Was The Sword from their split 9" with Ampere.
Lyrics: The first morning, the first time you realize you've laid it to rest yourself.
That god died in you, and I couldn't save you, even then.
"Lord come into my life."
These scars that never heal and the clarity that allows you to feel.
Enveloped, like the dead enveloped.
I wanted to change.
As if being discarded were that easy and the nights ended up being that empty.
It's so much more free, you were led by no one here.
This place is warm the change is definite.
And I've been stripped down, time and time again.
And left for the gray, and the cold.
Your voice changes pitch and blurs, like a storm carries a ship, you couldn't save me even then and I should have known that.
It really makes me sad how all these old bands just faded into obscurity when they've made some of the most powerful music I and many other people ever actually heard.
Burned Out Bright 🥺
It didn't fade away... here they are, made of steel because of us
Yes
It takes some diving to hit the underground layers of youtube then the related video list below does the rest..into the unknown obscurity all the gems to be gathered
I mean, they're on spotify. Post hardcore is just a niche genre, but I assure you people who like post hardcore will appreciate the small artists
Crazy to think last time i listened to this i was a idiot highschool kid and now im a grown man with a wife and kids.
and now the cycle repeats!! Currently i am that idiot highschool kid :-D
Bless 💗💗
I thought you were gonna make a joke like "now I'm an idiot adult with a wife and kids".
@@iwouldsetmyselfonfire4uHere's to your future.
Pray for me to get there friend
ill never doubt my algorithm again
Deadass
is no one gonna mention how insanely good the drummer is?
Goes without saying, I suppose.
Definitely what drew me in when I first heard these guys. I love how raw and unpolished his playing is at times, he definitely took a lot of risks on the take, and it paid off big time.
The drummer goes so hard in this song, it's incredible.
Matt is super underrated
Honestly everyone fits so well with each other its absolutely orgasmic to my ears.
I remember back in 2015 I was stuck in Perth airport for 12 hours with no money and 30 minutes free airport WiFi. All I did was play this UA-cam video on repeat. This is literally one of my biggest inspirations. The way the screamer channels himself through his vocals so emotively that we can all connect to, and the whole emotion of the vocals and song helps relieve your deepest emotions
The connection between music and a particular time & place is especially poignant, even if it’s being beyond massively delayed in an airport lol.
@@wseam1that might be the most beautiful quote ever holy crap
Personally, I think this is their greatest song. Oddly appropriate for it to be one of their last ever releases. Like a final bang that would forever resound throughout the ages.
I think so too, I listened ALL their music dozens of times, and this some & lyrics, for me, is their best, or at least the song which brings me more emotions.
imho their best one is Lie in Headlights from the Zann/FD split. lots of people don't know it, but it's a great track!
Yes - sharing your opinion entirely.
It's crushing and powerful...I adore it.
@@gimmigimmigimmi never heard of that one, I’ll listen rn
@@MrAerobitch nnn0nnn0ii. 0jou
Been listening to this repeatedly the last week, since discovering it.
I’m an addict, of many vices.
I’m starting fresh tomorrow it’s been decided.
I won’t let the seas of my compulsions carry me any further.
Remember, there are no failures, only setbacks
godspeed. i wish you the best on your journey
Amen brother. I struggle too. Everything you need you have. One day at a time🕊
One sad day I decided not to drink anymore and I was sober for over three years. I don't know what demons I had clinging to me but all these years later I can drink without destroying things
"I won't let the seas of my compulsions carry me any further" goes hard as fuck. good luck to you my man 🤝
Just imagine feeling all this on a live show. I think I'd die
This song is like running thru the woods naked at night under a full moon, you turn to the right and see a cave with a light glowing from within, you reach the glow and notice that it is a screen, a computer screen with some dumbass on youtube poetically writing about how some song makes them feel.
so true haha
yay. another amazing song that isn’t on spotify 😢
When "you couldn't save me even then and I should have known that" hits ya late at night thinking about shit god damn last night was rough
i adore bands like these because it makes me remember why i love time so much. no matter the time feelings will always be consistent and masterpieces like this are made.
This song goes hard on drums at the end. It's a good cardio song because of that. I just imagine I'm the drummer breaking my sticks mid-performance and I wake up from my zoned out listening to find I've ran miles. Also I'm bleeding somehow...
yo I just listened to this after having it on my watch later for months and it's fucking incredible
this song is so haunting and powerful
I like to imagine this is one of those underground bands youd only bring up to flex on someone to show you know music
Yeah, I think it is. This is a fairly popular song though so I know that some people would be like "you just like it because it's popular🤓". Music freaks can suck.
This song to me feels like someone stripping you butt naked in an empty field in the middle of the night and spraying you with a hose on the highest power while someone recites quotes from Greek philosophers at you.
That’s exactly what I was saying.
This is a beautiful mental image, thank you.
I'm sorry but this made me laugh so hard 😭 pure poetry
Lol I love you
God I wish that was me
this song, two more, and lie in headlights are what nietzsche and wagner talked about together in regards to bringing back the potency of greek tragedy in music form. it would be hard to state just how beautiful, nuanced, and poetic these compositions are.
That's a beautiful thought and it should be like the debate, on any random street corner to dark back road, it gives me a vision...all passionate genre's intertwined
if your'e looking for a soundtrack to the aryan revival...this is not it..thats a terrible and dangerous thought with disastrous ' consequences as already proven by history..
I keep coming back here to get sadder
As I’m just now hearing it, I have no insightful comment. It’s New Year’s Eve. 28 degrees sitting out here. And this came up. Rock n roll 2024. : )
I NEED this on Spotify man 😩
Same. Write to your congressman 😜
I could put it on there but idk about the legal issues
And back to this song I come 😩✌️✌️
don't we all?
ITS SO crazy i know ive heard this song nut so long ago it feels like a different life
Too this day I don't think I've heard another song that has resonated with me like this one. The end of the song most specifically. The way he describes powerlessness.. "like a storm carries a ship". It almost brings me too tears Everytime.
That f-ing drummer.. ⭐🌟⭐🌟⭐
Literally still one of my favorite songs ever
how bout now?
@@urbestyeste7106I'm in uni now and I was going to use this song for a homework analysis lol. I need a non bootleg source tho and asked Seth if he could post it on Bandcamp and Spotify and he said he's getting to it this week lol. Might be a bit too late for this homework but I am still using another FD song, This Truly Is God's Country
"As if being discarded were that easy"
It truly is, easy.
no, it murders.
And my nights ended being empty once again.
I got this so randomly. I love it :D
Funeral Diner always and forever!!! ALL the big names ripped ya'll off!!!
2020, still hurts
Still alive
that buld up to the climax, yeah
This song reminds me of how good cologne can smell sometimes.
Agreed. It's also reminiscent of the smell of the forest just outside the city. Just slightly removed from humanity, where things go wherever they want and outreach into the human side of things but inevitably get chopped back and grow the other way instead, avoiding pain again.
dude this is one of the best song's ive ever heard, such a powerful song
Thats Definitely a Emo Song 👍🏻
good music never dies. I still listen to Portraits of Past on a weekly basis. SXE
This is great, found this by accident but I'm glad I did :o
I found the vinyl on eBay I'm so happyyyyy I paid 40 bucks for it bc shipping is more expensive that the record itself but it's worth it imo
No such thing as accidents
1:30 I will never get over how he sings that line. Makes me wanna melt.
@Dgmcfartland There was singing in there somewhere?🙄🤦♂️
You kinda suck ngl
@@spanqueluv9erOkj😮k l
This was the last song they ever released. Then some of the members went on to form Who Calls So Loud... Ampere's side also bangs!
Goddamn this is pwerful
It's their lyrics that got me. Love that angry poetry
Its 2023. Hope to be here 2043 having not changed my music taste even a bit!
i'm crying and i dont even know why
The algorithm has once again blessed me. 😌🙏
And so he will shine the light onto the sphinx
I just shit my pants and went to heaven
Great track!
Personally, my favourite Funeral Diner song is We All Have Blood On Our Hands from The Underdark.
Saw them two nights running in London at The Swan and at The Free Butt in Brighton when they were touring said album. So fucking good.
they dont make screamo like this anymore
They really dont
this is great
Keep finding great songs after great songs!
This is amazing.
Correct
@@HendersonHinchfinchjust fact checked and I can confirm
This song makes me feel pain
This amazing song and Understanding in a car crash from Thursday are the two masterpieces of the genre. Emotional, raw ,honest.
Not the same genre, but check out Bjorn Riis - Lullabies in a Car Crash
Bruh that ending
incredible lol
Omg i can't believe i stumbled across this again. Back when I was heavy into pg99 and Circle Takes the Square and stuff. Wow

Bad ass song name
Another song that i think everyone should check out: Fragile - Artemis
Nice
this is stronger than strong
damn and here I thought post-hardcore\emo whatevercore was opposed to throwin' down the smooth, heavy-grooves, cause like we're too emotional to dance and move around at this show.

This is fucking awesome
Badass
This has been on UA-cam for 12 years that basically means I can sample and not stress right?

I need more funeral diner tabs.. I figured out decline by ear, made me so sad to see that's the only song on the internet. I have the beginning of "it was good that we never met" and "...and the beasts shall be made legion" if anyone has ANY tabs AT ALL for this band or just figured out small parts for songs I NEED IT
I had managed to figure out pretty much the entirety of 'I Wish I Could Do the Backstroke' on guitar, if you're still interested.
What tune do they use?
Same man I just need screamo tabs in general
Hey, 6 years later, but how's that going?
i like the sounds but whatever it not going to change how i feel forever
