I lived across the street from Joe's coffee shop in Portland during 2020-2021 and it was my go-to spot nearly every day. He's such a sweet guy and it's so cool to see him featured here!
You are wrong about the sun. Son, look. Sometimes a drink it’s different when uses it affect personal sometimes a drink is better when you have a snowball and sometimes it’s rink it’s not even the same.
Great video! I don't know if I missed it, but I don't think you mentioned how much the coffee costs.. would be interesting to know how much they charge compared to Starbucks or other coffee shops. Thank you :)
LOVE this video, what a concept! You always do a great job showing me neat stuff I never knew existed. The shop design was very beautiful, I especially thought the order displayed on the counter was a really neat touch. I would like to know more about the employee's experience working there; are they lonely working with robots all day? Do they have more time to connect with the customers? Is it a awkward for them to transition between high-mental-function tasks like troubleshooting to basic stuff like restocking items? What kind of training do they have to do?
I was amazed to see how gentle the robot's movements were and how it did the latte art, wow! But as you said, it makes sense that the coffee turns out great as it's always following the exact measurements. I personally also don't like dark roast, and with that Starbucks either 🙈So will definitely always opt for specialty cafes with single origin medium or light roast coffee 😍 Loved the video, Shelby 😊
YOOOO thats sick! Im a Senior Robotics Engineering major and I literally geeked out at this video. at 0:13 that robot barista is from a collaborative robot (cobot) company called Universal Robots, either that is the UR 3, or the UR5. these robots start at around $5k.
if you understand the economics of robots, then you will understand that yes, they are expensive upfront. but over the course of many years, they end up paying themselves off because they can work more efficiently and get more work done.
Oh My God I just went by this on my way to the light rail! I didn’t have time to stop there so I’ll have to try next week when I come downtown. Definitely will try it out! Thanks for showing us this!
I don’t usually comment but just wanted to say that the quality of your videos (from an editorial standpoint) is great! Definitely makes your videos stick out in my opinion : )
I can vouche for how much better having a robot is. I am a health inspector in NJ and we recently starting having facilities using robots in their kitchens-> as bar tenders, fryer attendant, at grill. It takes away ALOT of human error AND they are wayyy more sanitary then humans are. You would be surprised at how many food workers never watch their hands
For anyone with a espresso machine willing to experiment, take a Peet's Major Dickason's Blend K cup. Cut it open. You will find it is espresso ground. Good for double. Use any syrup, foam to make a latte. To me it tastes wonderful.
I’ve had this coffee is delicious! Thanks for covering it. It kind of makes me chuckle a little bit that Starbucks employees are unionizing. They are so easily replaced by this machine.
Let them ‘unionize’. It will all blow up in their face, as they deserve. Imagine telling someone they are in a ‘barista union’ and went on strike because the pride garbage got taken down 🤣
I also brought a latte from Artly coffee, it does taste far better than Starbucks and Peets. Very similar quality to the coffee I made myself at home with semi-auto machines.
There was a robot coffee shop on Market street in SF a few years ago. It wasn't this safisticated though - I think just basic coffee drinks. Totally on point with the medium roast. I have a super automatic espresso machine and use medium roast - taste much better than dark.
Shelby, this was a very well done video and very interesting. Who did the editing on this one? Also, nice to see you incorporated the advice from your last vlog at the beginning of this video.
I love the way you edited this video! I love the way you edit all your videos but I've noticed you trying some new things and it's great. I'm just starting out, and all I have is an older Surface Pro and the only thing I could find to edit with is Canva, which is super limited. But hey I can afford it (it's free!) and we all have to start somewhere. Thanks for putting your creativity out there.
I always love watching your videos! I would give Artly a try if they come to my area (Torrance, CA). I'm glad they have some actual human employees because I wouldn't want to go there if they didn't.
Some people are going to be against a robot coffee house, too impersonal, hire real people, etc. But there is room for a different concept. I am seeing robot servers at our neighborhood Korean street food restaurants. It is very appropriate and fun. It has a certain vibe and as long as it tastes good , is affordable, and is consistent and reliable it will succeed. Thanks for another fun review/intro to a new concept in coffee houses.❤
Great video, the next time I go to Seattle I will try this place. Yes there's one thing that everybody always wants to know is how much everything costs, and how and where do you pay.
saw this in my subscriptions yesterday and randomly stumbled upon artly today in seattle! it was soooo cool. i love tech and coffee- 2 of my favorite things :') thanks for posting ab this!
Many years ago I had a dream I owned a kitchen robot like at the end of this video! Was so cool and did everything they explained in the video. This must be the future because my dreams are always giving me clues of my future!
Interesting report. But why not try a plain black espresso? That should give you the best impression of the quality of the coffee (as opposed to the other ingredients).
There are two in San Francisco that I know of. They are in most depressing corners and always out of service. 😂 it took us 45 mins to find someone to fix or cancel our order.
When she said Seattle was known for two things, my instant thought was The Space Needle and fish throwing. And just as I was thinking I should replace The Space Needle with hipsters or Starbucks, she said coffee and tech. Oh well. 🤷🏽♀️
If you ever get to New Orleans go to Coffee science at 10 broad street. The owner used to be 1/2 owner of a Orleans coffee roasters. The guy is fantastic plus they usually have cool little things going on in their court yard in back.
oke commenting for the algorithm ☺️ for me most important is that the coffee tastes good and that you actually taste the coffee in your drink right? for real coffee lovers … just never never go to starbucks. maybe nice for like fancy sugary drinks but not for for coffee. really. we say it tastes like dishwashing water 😂 good description i think. i always go to a good local coffeeshop who knows and loves its beans and its coffee
Impressive robot. However, wouldn't it be easier to plan for automation from the ground up? Like conveyors and coffee machines that do a lot of the work at the coffee machine level? I do think people will think this coffee is better than an assemble line style coffee experience, but I wonder which way is better to scale?
Great video ! Yea, Robots to Make Fresh , Homemade Breakfast in Bed Every morning, Coffee ready , Orange juice & Dishes allways Done ! House All Cleaned EVERYDAY , Vacuumed & Dusted. Done ! Very cool. But Starbucks does use light roast. They have the Veranda Roast for regular coffee and you can order Blonde Espresso roast for lattes. You may want to try the Ristretto Shot (Short shot) with the blonde roast, it is sweeter. FYI, all of these are just a push of the button for baristas, they don't take longer to wait.
Americans think Starbucks coffee is premium and have no idea how much the rest of the world hate that sludge. But at least the yanks are a friendly bunch 😊
FYI Most Seattle residents don't drink Starbucks - us "yanks" know our coffee son. and we don't really care what the rest of world thinks and either should you
Hi Shelby, cool video thanks! However, I may have missed it, but did you ever say where this shop actually is located? Seattle is large if one looks for a small shop :)
I can't blame the business owner because robots don't call in sick, back talk, come in hungover, form unions, need benefits ect, however this is just another example of robots taking our jobs and if we aren't careful, keep marching towards a cashless/robot society it will bit us in the ass
We bought a home espresso machine. The first one required you to grind beans, pack them into the thing, knock out the spent coffee puck, etc. The second one does all that and you just have to refill a water reservoir, add coffee beans, and empty the puck can. At this point we just drink straight blonde-roast espresso shots. So Starbucks can go screw. By the way everyone, remember that researchers who work with cockroaches eventually become allergic to cockroaches, and when that happens they simultaneously become allergic to pre-ground coffee. They have to grind their own after that. So if you want to avoid consuming powdered cockroaches, you should grind your own coffee too.

agreed he is so nice! I love his coffee shop!
The cool thing about this is you don't need to tip the robot. 🤣
You can tell this was a comment left by an American though :)
@@michael7054 Shelby does YT about stuff in American cities so... no shit?
Why would you tip when you're just getting a coffee anyway?!
So true!
@@RachelDex if you got good service then why not toss a dollar bills on the counter ??
I live in Seattle and JUST heard about Artly for the first time the other day. It's such a cool concept - thanks for making a video about it!
Great video! I will try artly later today. Please do more of these videos exploring Seattle!
WRONG. avg. video.
I love how consistent it is between locations. I got the same drink when I was in Seattle that I get in Portland and it tastes the same.
You are wrong about the sun. Son, look. Sometimes a drink it’s different when uses it affect personal sometimes a drink is better when you have a snowball and sometimes it’s rink it’s not even the same.
Great video shelby! I have no idea how every week you manage to find cool things to make videos about, love your work!
Great video, the tasting at home idea actually was pretty good. Congrats to you and Olivia, footage, editing, everything have been super good
You have such a great vibe Shelby. Your"re actually a gamechanger in a state of happiness ❤️
