I guess it depends on the vehicle, the one in my 2004 F150 went out, took me all of 20 minutes to install it. The hardest part was finding the 17 different sockets to fit the different bolts. Yes because the 7 mm just weren't as strong as the 8 mm and the 6 mm were the right size for the freaking door handle...nay nay, 7 mm was TOO freaking HUGE for it.....
I wasn't too familiar with window regulators when I got my first e36, when I sold my last one I am now a professional lol. My first bmw e36 had it's window broken, before I bought it (it had a lot of things wrong, 400 dollar car.) I swear to God, it took me three days to figure out how that whole mechanism worked. The e36 has the absolute dumbest window mechanism known to man, I had a shop owner tell me he just goes and looks for a whole door that the window works, because it is easier than to try to fix that crap 😂. I'm assuming he was kidding, but he's not wrong.

I'm third!! I had to replace the regulator in the driver's door of my '98 Town Car; however the regulator and motor is one unit. And the glass had to come out too like on your FMW. I gave up on it and took it to my mechanic.
I didn't realize that I had a crush on Elliot until I watched him tell bad dad jokes and regulator puns for 12 minutes while I laughed at each each one.

There is an aftermarket cupholder available that is just a shallow tray which sticks on top of the tray area in front of the shifter (and is tall enough to cover the broken OEM cupholders). Won't hold your drink if you're cornering at maximum g-force, but it also won't break. I put one in the E39 I had.
I really like that your putting the car back to factory specs. Gonna be a shame if you do something dumb with it now. Probably could get another 250,000 miles out of it. Although a 750i V-12 swap would be interesting... 😏

Did you remove the chrome trim piece on the outside of the door? It makes removing the glass considerably easier. But great to see another E39 staying alive!
Very interesting video. That car is so delightfully BMW in the right way. Understated elegance and purity of design. Nothing about the design is for show. Everything is simply right. One of the few BMWs I would own. Hope you keep her close to stock. It will be interesting to see how many miles she can accumulate, since she is only at a quarter million so far. My old Volvo is at 400,000 and I am aiming for a million. We shall see if I live that long. The car will make it with no problem

I did that hvac faceplate on my wife’s e39 a couple months ago. What a mess! Probably took me 1.5 hours on those buttons too.
