What you shouldn't do on your OLED TV. 1. Don't play videogames for long periods of time. 2. Don't watch a lot of sports with static score boxes. 3. Don't watch channels with static channel logos. 4. Basically just don't use it like a normal TV.
@@mamabazzz it can be used for gaming but i would not do it excessively though, really having any static image on for too long is just a bad idea, and when pausing during a movie or something there should be a save screen setting that comes on
@@mamabazzz This burn-in issue is way too blown up by people. I've had LG b6v since October 2016 and used it almost every day. I've watched sports, played xbox for hours and hours straight, left the tv on a channel with a static channel logo, even left kodi home screen for entire night a couple of times. And I have zero burn-in. Of course I might be lucky with the panel, but that's just my two cents
I've had an LG OLED for less than two years and have had the screen replaced twice due to burn in. We watch a lot of business channels during the day and network and streaming content during the evening. As retired folks, the TV is one the better part of 8+ hours daily. I guess you'd say we don't "baby" the TV. For our viewing habits, OLED is not appropriate and I'll be looking at QLED or Micro LED for my next TV.
Top comments what u say oled is very gentle tv and if u watch extends time is not good... Samsung u can turn on today and live next 10 years free... sure no problem with Samsung
@@blacklyfe5543 Old post, but here goes. Image retention is where the OLEDS (or any display really) don't completely refresh when the image is changed and tends to happen with short to moderate durations of a static (esp. vivid) element on screen. It'll either fix itself over time, especially after shutting down the display (doubly so when it has a process designed to deal with it, like what is shown in this video). You could think of it as the screen equivalent to a ruffled sheet. It can be fixed. Burn-in on the other hand, is a permanent, uneven degredation of the OLEDs themselves. As OLEDS are 'Organic' (which is where the 'O' in 'OLED' comes from), they're prone to degrading faster than 'normal' emitters. The uneven degredation causes a permanent pattern to be visible. The use of static images (especially those that are vivid) makes this happen at an accelerated rate. This can be equated to a permanent dent in a cushion. There is only so much that can be done to mitigate it, and it's something you'd be stuck with. By all reports though, normal use of OLEDs and some sensible precautions (turn the display off if you won't be using it for a while, avoiding excess static content) being put into place, and burn-in is basically a non-issue even after a few years of use. Even if there is some burn in, it's usually minor and not noticeable with normal viewing (basically, only visible with solid colour backgrounds). Definitely wouldn't recommend an OLED to someone who watches channels with static elements being regularly used. News tickers, sports channels, or any channel really with a very visible watermark (any sensible station/broadcast should have stopped doing that years ago though). This was a problem with plasma TVs as well, but nobody makes those anymore and they were basically superceded by OLED which now occupies the same niche, doing the job better overall. If you're the type who watches a lot of that stuff, it'd be better to go to an alternative technology, like Samsung's QLED. Oh, just to point out, but high-end phones generally use OLED displays. 99% of users won't notice any burn in there. Granted, one usually doesn't leave the screen on for extended periods of time to save battery. I'm looking forwerd to MicroLED, but that's still years away from being reasonably priced consumer level stuff. I think Sony is debuting a ~80" 4K display later this year, and that display will be the smallest 4K MicroLED display yet. A big problem with the tech ATM, is increasing the density of the MicroLEDs. It'll be years before we can get 55" 4K (let alone 8K) MicroLED displays.
@@ThatSoddingGamer great explanation. I myself have been using the lg v30 which has an poled screen but never got any burn in. Now my question is as you said phones with oled screen don't or rarely face burn in issues. So why doesn't lg use the same oled tech in their TVs as well?
@@lewisevander Well, AMOLED is the version common with portable devices like phones. It's a variation of OLED and has its advantages and disadvantages. It too is prone to burn-in, but as I mentioned most people don't keep their phone display on for extended periods of time, and don't leave them on static screens too much either. Also, phones generally have a shorter lifespan of use compared to TVs. Most people upgrade their phones every few years or so. People usually keep their TVs for more like half a decade or more. AMOLED is actually inferior to OLED when it comes to TVs, at least in some ways. It has less deep blacks, which is one of the things that make OLED so popular. AMOLED also costs more than OLED, so a larger display like a TV would end up prohibitively expensive in comparison. AMOLED displays can be larger and have higher refresh rates, but for most home theater situations, OLED is superior. There are other advantages and disadvantages to each. The preference is situational. AMOLED's advantages lend itself well to things like phones, while OLED works well for larger displays you don't intend to poke and prod.
Amazing vid. I have a 2016 oled and I have 0 issues with mine whatsoever. I’m about to buy a new oled next week and I’m contemplating getting the 65” wallpaper, or 77” c8. I can’t see myself moving to lcd/led after owning a oled. Thanks for the awesome vid and shutting all the rumors down.
I agree with Michelle, you might want to wait for CES as the pricing may go down with the announcement of the new models. They usually start shipping the new stuff in spring.
Lol, he hasn't shut anything down. He's just another OLED fanboy making a video about his favourite TV. Tons of contrary videos on the net saying otherwise. I've had OLED for 5 years and had burn in twice. So I know what I'm talking about
I use a 4K HDR monitor for gaming because it's a 32" screen. I can see everything better without having to move my head around when playing online MP on a 65" screen.
@@gjna5143 If I could get a 32" OLED to game on, I would. I just need a screen smaller than 55" to be able to see JohnnyPants65 on the other end of the map sniping...
@@TechnoDad Trust me, if you would play RDR2 on that 32' OLED, you would have a permanently imprinted round circle in the left corner of your screen after about 2 days.
OLED good for 1 thing only: watching movies. At night. It's not for gaming or anything that involves static images like news channels. Not the best for sports. Well 2 things actually: also good for watching of axis due to good viewing angles.
When I buy a TV I would like to use it and not worry about static image of burning I will stick with LED TVs a little blooming not the end of the world at least I know I can turn it on and do whatever I like without worries
I know!!! I saw that one! It's what inspired me to make this video. Also, there were a few other OLED burn in videos that popped up in the past couple of weeks. I figured I should share my experience as well.
@@demiani6237 yes it will happen in time. Not the entire area but a thin line on the top side of the bar. I have experienced this and it is inevitable.
My LG Oled55b6p developed "burn-in". Not sure when or how it happened but there was clearly an image...you could even read the words on the screen that had burned in. To LG's credit, they were very responsive and accommodating and replaced the panel at no charge even after 3 1/2 years since original purchase. I paid UP for the TV at the time, for sure, and it was (is?) considered part of their "flagship" line so they stood behind it. A local tech came to the house and replaced the panel in 45 minutes and I couldn't be happier. It's back to amazing. Thank you, LG, for standing behind your product. I really appreciate it.
A normal person can buy with confidence. A TV/Gaming addict might not want to buy ANY TV, because LCD, OLED and plasma will ALL burn in if you have a TV on 20 hours a day.
Look, it's pretty simple. OLED burn-in is real, and can happen quite easily. Just for example, on Tuesday I was working from home because of the lousy weather. I put the Weather Network on in the morning, and foolishly left it on basically all day, maybe 7 or 8 hours. When I switched to something else that night, several of the static elements (they stay on even during commercials) were visible on a grey screen. Pixel refresher and some normal use made that go away, but that just goes to show just how easily it can happen. I'm super paranoid now about leaving any sort of static elements on the screen - UA-cam or Netflix app menus, DVR 'pause' screen, and so on. Actually, I was even before Tuesday's events. I'm increasingly doubtful about how long I will manage to go before the screen develops some burn in that can't be ignored. It's a great picture, but having to worry about burn-in definitely kills some of the enjoyment of it.
Had this exact same thing happen on my plasma tv's as well ( have had multiple in the past ) but they all recovered. I give 0 *Synonym for excrement* about this today however. Just make sure you set up your tv' to automatically shut down after X hours, wich means that if it doesn't receive any input from the remote for 4-5 hours or so it will shut down. There are also sleep timers for as long as I can remember. Just use your brain and you should be fine using your OLED.
@@Darkmanmr47 i agree with you. all the info ive been researching i went with oled. i have the C8 and got a few weeks back. ive been using it for movies, and streaming. i dont have cable so tv logos in the corner is no big deal -- streaming is the future anyways. as long as you just use the tv as it should (a tv) youll be fine. no need to leave tvs on for hours and hours anyways -- goes for any tv. on the whole static imagery, yeah it can cause burn in, but after a few hours just switch to youtube for 20mins to wash away the static logo image (if ones present). as long as you keep the content moving youll be fine.
My 2016 LG signature oled automatically goes to screen saver mode over a short period of time if left on a stagnant screen shot. It is set to do this automatically with no intervention. Absolutely no burn in!
Image retention is not the same as burn in. I've owned an LG plasma for 10+ years. Mostly for gaming and casting UA-cam (meaning static elements on the screen pretty consistently). There is almost always some image retention after a gaming session. It disappears immediately after refreshing the pixels. To this day, zero burn it.
I’ve always wondered about pixel refreshers etc.. if a image is burned in then you’re burning it out.. how vibrant would that part of the screen be after that? In general, even if you look after your screen your screens pixels will still degrade over time in a oled
Still, all oled owners are stressed about burning all the time, while others just enjoy their tv and live on. Somehow you let yourself being told at some point that the issue is you and the way you use the tv instead of the tv itself....Food for thoughts...
his comparison to the Ferrari was spot-on. You wouldn't put 87 gas in a 93 engine, and you wouldn't leave your Ferrari sitting out in the driveway like you might on a Hyundai. Take proper care of your top of the line premium equipment.
David Ash god what is with people and their stupid car analogies. no other TVs on the market have these issues. I want to enjoy my TV without constantly worrying about me ruining it. I don't have time for this bullshit babysitting.
I agree with everything you said. However having a ZD9 led TV. I've spent years with it. The black bars in a pitch black room are only just visible. When the whole screen is filled like in the first Pacific Rim. It's pure magic. But I can crank all the lights up and the bright room thanks to the extra bright LEDs creates the blacks of OLED but with all the brights they cant. Dolby vision is heading towards super bright 10,000 nits. Oleds have perfect black but cant do as bright. Flagship LCD are almost black in dark rooms while being bright, and perfect black in bright rooms. So it's really picked the blue Ferrari or a red one. Just buy what features grab you most. I'm addicted to bright content more than a few shades blacker..😊
Well said! Like I mentioned in the video OLED isn't for everyone, and in my 4K TV buyer's guide I mention that budget, viewing environment, and viewing habits should be taken into consideration when purchasing a new TV. Not all technology will work for everyone when you take those three factors into consideration. I'm glad you're enjoying your Z9D. I went to the Sony Playstation Experience last year and they had like 20 of the 100" Z9Ds...wow!! Look sooo good!!!
I had mine on minimal energy savings, had burn in less than one year, never had any issues with my old Sony Sxrd projector. I feel like Oled will be the new plasma and Microled will take over in the future.
My Oled is 2 yrs old, screensaver on all the time, screensaver on on satellite box and normal use and i still get burn ins. How's that then ? My oled panel is from February 2017, after research on internet i'v learnt that there are problems with the panels made in early 2017, LG even admitted this. No more Oled for me.
Drik, thank you for sharing your experience. it's such a shame that they know they have problems with certain batches and have done nothing about them. So sorry to hear.
Please upload some proof then. I got an early LG Oled as well, use it every day and I got no problems while gaming several hours every day. Everyone can write negative things about OLED just to make it look bad.

Got the Cx 55 yesterday and I am going to use it only for movies , not for sports or binge watching , not use it like a radio and potter around the house. The picture is breathtaking and the sound throughput to the sound bar is outstanding. Plus the plan is to power everything off from the mains after watching. Fingers crossed it’s lasts a bit
I have a Sony XBR-65A1E OLED absolutely no problems with burn-in......but I am also a Pioneer Kuro Plasma owner who learned how to make sure that burn-in was never an issue....
I still love my Kuro besides for the fact that I’m getting magenta pixeling on high bright/white scenes. Especially when watching hockey. I read it’s a voltage issue that can be fixed in the service menu. I’m afraid of completely ruining the tv to try and fix it. I’m definitely gonna upgrade to an oled when the budget allows.
James Stegbauer it’s different with oled. With plasma it’s avoiding static images. With oled it’s cumulative, five minutes each day for a year is the same as a static image for 1500 minutes. Only way to avoid it is to avoid certain tv channels
I own an LG 65ef9500 OLED. Mostly watch movies and tv shows but I also have a PS4. I purchased the set in October 2015. To date, the set has never had burn-in. I use the features in the TV to prevent it and also Fire tv and my Blu-ray player also have them. Also, I turn my set off if not watching for a while rather then leave a paused image on the screen. The picture quality is still excellent but not all scenes are rendered perfectly. I notice banding with some content such as undersea imagery, I can't wait until they can figure out how to completely eliminate that. So, 3 years+ and this set still looks great and it still works. Knock on wood.
Nighter so does smartphones.. Because if you have to always babysit a tv or smartphone trying not to get burn-ins than it's not worth it. I'll just take a tv or smartphone with a good image without worrying about burn-ins all the time. Don't get me wrong, I know you should take care of a tv. But I don't want to have to babysit it all the time and worrying about burn-ins.
It really isn't that complicated. Just watch the TV like you'd normally would. QLED gives you lots of blooming and Samsung doesn't support Dolby Vision, which is a huge omission.
@@UnnDunn blooming is not a big thing anymore. The newer fald. Displays are great. Oled has great darks. Qled has great brightness. Dolby vision hmm. Only a few people have seen it in action, it is a bit like vhs vs disc. The disc (hdr10) will probably be biggest
Maries van de Fliert Dolby Vision is a game-changer. HDR10 looks bright and colorful, but Dolby Vision takes it to the next level to where the picture just looks gorgeous.
Have a 2016 B6 and while I do get image retention (usually from bright yellows) but I never had a burn in issue. I do mainly play video games on it to. When I know I have to walk away from the TV for a extended period of time I turn it off. I dont have the brightness cranked to 100. If you experience burn in o an OLED your abusing it.
As a gamer who works a major electronics retailer and works around all TVs and owns and OLED, I can vouch for this review. Any burn in will only be from VERY consistent static use or user error. We have a couple of panels that have acquired permanent burn in from rolling a 45 second demo for the 8hrs a day minimum for 12 months. As a gamer with an LG B7 I wouldn't have any it any other way. OLED is phenomenal and even if I only get 5 years of true colour from it, I would be happier to have spent $2000 on that TV and had that amazing contrast for that time, than have settled for a backlit LED for the same price.
agree with you 100% Nathan, seeing is believing. Unfortunately most on here don't use their own eyes to judge, they just buy inferior products based on reviews by others and then become righteously indignant when they feel they need to justify their choice. Are the Qleds of today the best-ever led-backlit LCD TV's ever made ? yes. Is that technology inferiour to OLED ? Yes.
I’m using “ LX 6090H Pioneer Kuro “ since last 9 years almost 7hrs a day and I haven’t seen any burn in . It’s because it has a function call Orbiter which moves the image little by little.
Hi, first time viewer. I was pleasantly surprised by your vid, I bought my LG B7 last May and burn-in was a concern for me but I did my research and have also been doing the same things you have to avoid the risk of burn-in. I'm glad you made this vid and showed your own experience, it all comes down how to use it.
Hi! Thank you! I’ve seen so many bashing OLED TVs from people that don’t own them. Yes they have their issues but if you are aware of what you’re watching on the TV burn-in can be avoided. Thanks for watching!!
I have 4 years old lg 55ec930v model and no burn-in issues at all! I've been gaming and watching all kind of stuff for thousands of hours. I just upgraded it to 65" B8 model. I hope that will last that long also. OLED ftw.
If burning is even a concern I would not take the chance because I constantly find myself having stuff left on that could cause potential burn in that's why I went with a qled I also think it's funny because people say phones don't burn in but from my moderate use of my phone my keyboard is slightly burned into the screen.
Yeah, that's why I don't have an OLED in the master bedroom as my wife uses the TV to fall asleep. So it's left on quite a bit and I do find some static screens from time to time. So I wouldn't put an OLED there.

The real problem with OLED is judder and motion stutter.. burn is 100% avoidable, but judder and motion stutter is not 100% fixable even on the 2018 models. LCD's can be used as a pc monitor and for web browsing without worrying about burn in and seeing image retention.. not to mention they can be 1/4 the price or even less..
Burn-in on OLED's isn't a matter of user error. It's a fatal flaw of OLED screens. The solution against burn-in being moderated use is not a solution at all.
Will letter boxed bars cause a burn in? Based on Sony support page, it mentioned that letter boxed will cause image retention. Also, what about subtitles displayed? Please advise. I do really love OLED tv...but cuz of the burn in....😩
I've had my lg oled for 18 month and not a bit of burn in' I use the pixel refresher in the tv every month or so ' I game a lot and even that doesn't affect my tv' just don't leave a static image on any screen for too long or it will burn, I've seen many lcd tvs burn because of static pictures, common sense rules.
So what, no more PAUSE button for games? Or PC wallpaper? Or Main Menu? Or any menu or map screen in game? What about HuD or frames or any static-ish icons in games? Or the clocks and bars in PS4? Etc... It's 100% impossible to avoid having some static image, (like a wallpaper can burn in all screen essentially). Also it's not realistic or particular to not use PAUSE in games anymore etc... I ask this because I'm on the verge to buy a freaking expensive Oled and I'm rather nervous about Burn In. I'm looking between C9 and Q90R (which O can get cheaper) for 4K HDR console and pc gaming
I just bought a LG Oled CX, I love it. I have it set up so if I walk away the screen saver comes on, or I turn the screen off all together. I was hesitant before I bought it. However, after research I realized that it really wasn't concern.
2.5 year OLED E6 owner here. Zero burn in or image retention. Bought a QLED for the family room. Use the OLED for movies. Once viewing jet black never back! No jet black on QLED, no matter what the QLED fanboys say. The Ferrari analogy was perfect. Audiophiles don't abuse their high end turntable and stylus either. OLED is an audiophile lovers tv. QLED is like listening to MP3 and thinking you're hearing the best music has to offer. It's not. Now call me an audio snob :)
Hey Channa! So I convinced my parents to FINALLY start upgrading their Home Theater after they came by and saw my upgrades (Denon AVR-X2400H mated to SVS Prime Center, Prime Satellites, and PB-2000, and Sony XBR-X800E). My stepdad was quite impressed and ended up getting the same AVR as I did, and now is looking to out do me on their TV upgrade by a long shot! Now I know picture quality will be potentially subjective to the viewer, but from a features, quality, and durability stand point, what would you recommend for a new TV for a 65" screen? The LG C8 or Sony A1E?
Hi! I think you can get a great deal on the C8s. The A1E is pretty good TV. My issue with it and most Sony TVs has to do with the OS. If your stepdad is going to use the built in apps on the TV, I would go with the LG as the OS is much more user friendly and not as clunky as the one on the Sony.
@@TechnoDad Some corrections in your analysis. If you have light walls where your OLED is situated, then the reflection from the OLED screen light of movie while watching in the dark onto these walls will neutralise the effect you describe of a "floating" image suspended in dark of an oled movie. Hence this effect will completely neutralise the ONE of 2 important FEATURES that makes OLED TV the videophile choice, the other being infinite contrast ratio, and perhaps also viewing angle. If you have natural light incident on OLED screen during daytime viewing, the image quality of an OLED screen is truly awful- notwithstanding your incredulity that anyone would watch tv during the day, fact is, a Ferrari that can only drive during the night is a truly peculiar vehicle. ALL OLEDs currently on the market have limited peak brightness, and after watching the flagship AF9 Sony for a week, in spite of reference quality image, the fact is that this lack of brightness for TV viewing is a distinct disadvantage compared to the peak brightness of QLEDs and some LEDs. 1000 nits standard mastering for a movie in cinema is helped by pure black surfaces of cinema auditorium, unlikely to be common decor of most users, so OLED tyically has degraded image due to this lack of brightness. OLED relies on the optical illusion afforded by infinite contrast ratio that "tricks" the eye into perceiving a higher brightness. After a while, a discerning viewer sees through this illusion and disappointment sets in when HDR images especially lack the pop they ought to have. This is why the flagship tv of 2019 is likely to be the Panasonic GZ 2000 OLED which has re-engineered the LG panel to get brighter to a claimed 1000 nits. These above facts explain why Samsung engineers consistently produce bright QLED tvs which appeal to the average consumer in the real world and not videophiles who probably have a dedicated room for their home cinema experience
Bullshit. If you're playing the same game for 2-3 years, that might be right. Otherwise burn-in is no problem. And while you're just playing the OLED hater without any sources, I can name one: Myself who used an OLED for two years straight without ANY problems.
I want to get an LG OLED tv mostly just for gaming cause the colour accuracy is really unbeatable but if I’m gonna spend so much on it I want it to last a long time. I wanna know if I’m playing like say 6 hours of games a day on the tv will I have any problems would it be a good choice cause I’ve seen so many mixed reviews about it. Thanks :)
After watching your videos several times on my brand new oled LG 77 inch i got the burn in image of your techno dad logo. Thanks alot buddy! Grrrrrrr! lol
Hi Techno-Dad, I have a 12 years old Pioneer, I play a lot of games but I use video pattern in settings, is it the same as pixel shift? I really tried to get LED, QLED or Quantum, but coming from plasma it’s hard to go another route then OLED. Thank you very much for your amazing videos.
Sounds insane to me ppl recommending not using the tv as much or not playing the same game for too long to avoid burn in, if im paying for an expensive tv as an oled i should be able to use it as much as i want without having to worry about anything, i guess im going qled this year 🤷♂️
LOL! Well, my OLED in on for at least 7 hours a day and most of that is DirecTV which has channels that all have logos in the bottom right. I only play games for about 4 hours on the OLED. If I really want to do a crazy gaming session, I'll do that on a smaller screen as I always do better. Anyway, I hear Samsung QLEDs will drop in price around October 6, 2019. Samsung is moving away from QLED and will start production OLEDs for next year.
Hey Techno Dad, one of my biggest concerns about getting a Oled is because I LOVE watching NFL and u know its a 3 hours matches with scoreboards and ESPN/NBC logos on it. Do you think that is a good idea me getting a oled tv?
I’ve had mine for a few years watching cable tv and movies. My tv now has defined areas where the bars from wide screen viewing is being used now I can see it all the time. I haven’t had it that long I will never waste money on a OLED again and I would never recommend anyone else to get one. Your saying this lightly but it pisses me off I paid a lot of money and now I have a piece junk in my living room I’m pissed off every time I watch it.
My signature Lg oled also has no burn-in since 2016 when I purchased it. It is still a perfect picture because it has its own dimming Screensaver system that Automatically starts when you leave a stagnant screenshot on the screen.
This is smartphone related... I have an S8 + , a couple of months ago I fell asleep watching UA-cam in portrait mode overnight, after 7 hours it left a permanent discoloration (lighter color shade) just along the whole box where the portrait video is shaped in. Although not a big deal, it still sucks
Thanks nice video i just got my CX my first oled question what is the safest OLED light and contrast to avoid burn in risk thanks more power to your channel.
I don't game on my OLED or watch TV. I'm big on blurays and 4k discs. It's strictly for movies. It's by the far, the best technology for a home movie experience.
If you have an LG C7 or Newer, you don’t have to worry about Burn-In like back in the day. Especially if you use Pixel Refresh. I leave the TV on for HOURS on end. 6-8 hours per day. Playing video games with Static UI and never had any issues.
No burn in here too (about one year and few months). Never had with my plasma years ago too. As long as you know your needs and how you are going to use your tv, you make the good choice of technology. And oled panels are improved years after years. The real difficulty is to "educate" people with the pros and cons of each techn. I dont have Ferrari, just Lamborghini, is that working for it too? lmfao Another good video with true informations Merry Christmas from France ;-)
I’ve owned an OLED TV now for 4 years and upgraded to a newer model a year ago put the other one in my bedroom and use it like a pc monitor have them both on vivid all the time and play games on the one in my bedroom never had issues with burn in with any of them great TVs 😊
The way things were not very long ago: It used to be that abusing a TV meant dropping it from a height or throwing a rock at it. It used to be that watching unacceptable/damaging content meant viewing pirated material or hate videos or some really nasty porn. It used to be that you wouldn’t have cause to be in a celebratorial mood until your TV was still like new after 15 or more years. .... but thanks to LG and it’s Oled tech, displaying static images is now considered abuse.... owners feel vindicated in their choice of Oled after only 1 or 2 years if the screen is undamaged after normal use. Viewers need consider what content is good for the screen, rather than what’s good for them to see. We can thank LG for this state of affairs and the Oled fanboys that let them get away with this rubbish! I say humbug to Lg and their Tv burn-in excuses that they deflect onto the innocence. Oh the humanity!
Well, Samsung threw TV after TV with terrible Clouding, Bleeding, Banding, Smearing an even lose back panels on the market - you fanboys bought everything, even the Qled, which looks great, but still have the same Clouding/Bleeding problems, because Samsung never felt the need to fix this. Please stop your hate comments under POSITIVE OLED experience videos. That's pretty sad.
@@Th3D4nt3 OLED sucks man. The fact that burn in is a legit issue for those who want to use their TVs extensively sucks. No wonder the technology is on its way out. I've had an LG OLED E6 65inch since 2016 and I have not had a burn-in till now. I use my OLED for home theater and videos games, I use it for about 5-6 hours everyday and up to 8 hours each day on a weekend. If your usage is about 5-8 hours daily then I think you should be good with an OLED. On a separate note OLED technology has come a long way since its inception although some people may experience burn-ins this flaw has significantly reduced in the newer models.
Imagine buying a TV, turning it on at night and seeing clouding and bleeding right out of the box. That's QLED, LED and LCD for you. Had an OLED for two years and watch the same TV channels every day. No problems, 0 burn-in.
I agree with you. I got the 55" c8 on black friday and couldn't be happier. The blacks are awesome, i love it. A big step up from my old entrylevel plasma.
The early OLED’s would of suffered more on the burn in. Now days they’ve come such a long way and designed to help prevent burn in. You need to keep watching the same repeated images for months on end to even get burn in. People are over thinking and panicking over burn in. You’ll be just fine with an OLED tv.
GRRRREAT VIDEO. Thank you for that. It puts my mind at ease, and I was already treating my gorgeous OLED with total respect, to avoid any retention issues. Thanks again.
@@jesper9147 oled burn is not caused by gaming or what so ever. Its a lottery. Some good binned panels will never get burnin and some will get quickly burned. @@elgreco17 Sometimes burn in isn't noticeable unless you display the entire screen in the same colour. Try putting a totally blue screen, then green, then red, then white and see it you notice anything. If not then you don't have any burn in.
Would you recommend a 55” lg c8 or 65” Sony X900F? Price point is similar and obvious pros and cons to both. I game for a couple hours after work and really enjoy movies and Streaming shows.
Hi Bruno! I would probably go with the OLED. If you don't game like all crazy, then I think you should be fine. I was worried when I was streaming with Twitch on the OLED as it leaves a hard rectangle in the bottom right corner. As always, look at the TVs and see if you know someone you can experience it at their house.
Perfect solution: sit to pee at home. No lifting the seat up or down, and best of all, no pee sprinkle splash out of the toilet. Hmm so basically don't use an Oled for normal viewing. Have and LCD in the same room for gaming watching the news etc. I would like an Oled but you will be on tenderhooks most of the time worrying. Nice vid.
At which point did he say not to use it for normal viewing? I agree the news is a no no, but for pretty much anything else it should be fine. I don't honestly understand why someone would get a fancy OLED TV and use it to watch the news for hours on end anyway, plenty of other devices you can do that on.
I've been looking at getting the LG C1 but the burn in and dead pixel thing scares me. My tv runs 14 hours a day, 8 of which are news and sports with static chyrons and scores , and I use my picture in picture quite a bit. With that kind of usage should I avoid OLED? Also are there any warranty protections for burn in and dead pixels? Thanks.....✌
Some great points here brilliant video! Just made my first step in to the OLED world with a 55 inch LG 55b8PLA. Gotta say got it home last night and its stunning even on SD TV it looks and sounds phenomenal. Got a great deal of 300 pound off ours too in the end of the Christmas sale.
Ferrari is a great car, but only if you take care of it. So you ask me, how do I prevent mileage from accumulating in my Ferrari? Well first off, I usually have my Ferrari in either regular or Econ mode, rarely do I use the Turbo mode. When I want to go for a joy ride, I will drive it for only a few hours, and then I will mostly drive my Honda or my Prius afterwards. During heavy traffic, dont ever just leave your Ferrari idling, cause why would you do that? Everytime traffic slows down, just brake and put it in park. Every single time. And also ask yourself this, how often do you actually drive your car during the daytime? That's all I'm going to say about that, that's it.
How many of guys with oled had or have issues with vignetting on the sides of the screen around 5% or less near black slide? Any banding? Dead pixels? I went through four 65e6p tvs and still didn't get one without some sort of flaws two yrs ago!

LG oled TV’s are a terrible investment if you’re planning on using the TV for daily use. I’ve had mine for 3 years and not only does it have burn in from channel logos but there is color shading all over the screen. There is no way these will last 40k hours as advertised.

I get the feeling this is a bit of a jab at mr 4K and his “story” about OLED ( which was clearly a complete fabrication and utter nonsense). Also Quantum Apotheosis and his bizarre agenda against OLED
Hi Brad! I haven't caught up on too many of Mr. 4Ks videos so I don't really know what that's about. Everyone has their opinions on what is better and what they would spend their money on. For instance, I have an LCD/LED in the master bedroom because my wife falls asleep to TV and just stays on all night sometimes. So I wouldn't put an OLED there.
*Content Creator* _Alot of QA hate lmfao. I want oled to improve. Videos like this hurt oled growth. Stop giving excuses and credit for its half steps. Especially, when you limit usage to avoid these issues._
U can't avoid OLED burn-in. If you're using it, you're losing it; Pixel density that is. Which will ultimately result in burn-in. That's just the inherent nature of an organic panel. Just like anything organic... they age and die.
I bought a 55 B7 a year ago and I play without worries in it. Fortnite, Forza Horizon, Battlefield I watch TV (not that much cause I prefer netflix or youtube) and I have no issues until today. I bought it almost as a disposable OLED, but now it’s my favorite TV cause is in my bedroom and it’s not that easy get burn in. Maybe after 30-40 minutes of a really big static image you’ll see burn in for 1-2 minutes. But I think you really need hours and hours of static images to get real permanent burn in.
I work at a large electronics retailer, and we only have one oled with burn in, because it got stuck at an in-store picture. All other oleds are running demo content from 9am to 9.30pm every day, and at that time are completely powered down. These tv’s can not do their refresh cycle and still do not show any burn in at all. I did find philips oleds are most prone smh

One salesmen even told me how he bought an LG OLED, took it home and set up to watch, but soon fell asleep for a few hours on the couch..... when he awoke, the TV was screwed: it had burn-in..... of course it was all his fault.

I've had our OLED for 2 years and have used it as any normal TV. Not one spot of burn in or brightness issues. It's not easy to burn them in as long as you dont leave static images on it for extended times. Commercials and such change the screen enough to avoid issues. Not sure if it's just that I won panel lottery or what, but I have a few friends who also have OLED with no issues. Some of them even leave them on for their dogs all day everyday with no issue for over a year. As long as commercials and other things switch it up, it's not an issue. Us after 4 hours, they do a refresh of the screen that in store TVs do not get a chance to do. Bestbuy near me just flips a switch that kills power so the TVs are unable to perform their refresh after 4 hours. Watching HDTVtest channel proves this also. Again, not sure if I won panel lottery or not. But, if I won it, then so did my friends who have them as well which is obviously not a common situation. I deem it a non issue with the experience I have had though.

This video title is misleading. If you haven't experienced any burn in two years you title the video as such. Also, just because you haven't experienced any burn-in doesn't mean OLED displays aren't prone to burn-in. You do a great disservice to consumers when you mislead them into having blind confidence in purchasing an OLED . The fact of matter is and the evidence is substantial and overwhelming that OLED displays are prone to burn-in.
Amad Zee your comment is stupid. He hasn’t experienced it, deal with it. I’ve experienced a LOT of problems with every LCD TV I’ve owned, I’ve seen many people complain about their LCD tvs but I NEVER see dumb comments like this claiming LCD TVs are “prone” to issues. Ok thanks for your reply. I only ask because my TV (LG OLED55C7V) is currently being repaired due to screen burn-in. I have read elsewhere that turning the brightness down can help reduce the potential risk even further? Like I said previously, some of the factory presets are 100% so it's interesting to listen to other peoples thoughts especially those who haven't had any issues. As it happens my TV has just this minute arrived back from the repair shop (new screen) but will be going straight back tomorrow because it's been damaged in transit by the courier. FFS 😡
I may try and reduce it to a comfortable setting once I get it back. 'Once bitten twice shy' and all that. If it helps in any way then obviously that's of some importance to me. Fantastic TV though, barring this issue of course, and I simply love the picture quality. You have a new subscriber 👍🏻
I shouldn't have to purchase a tv for thousands of dollars and basically give myself anxiety about everything I watch on it. Completely takes away from the experience of just watching tv
Funny how the burn in discussion is starting all over again, was the same for Plasma TV's. Funny how it did us home theater enthusiasts no worries whatsoever using the Plasma's with occasional temporary Burn-in as a result. Even like that they were vastly superior to LCD tv's or the later introduced led-LCD-tv's. I would even prefer a plasma TV today over a Qled which is nothing more than a Led-backlit LCD tv.
if you take care of it, the chances of real burn in is near non-existent. i would say all lcd's/led's cause burn in but at a slower rate. there's nothing wrong with being careful of what you're doing on your expensive technologies...that goes for everything someone owns -- if you take care of it, less problems occur. I am not including the BAD apples of the bunch because there's always a few.
Another great video keep them coming. I recently got the lg c8 and was in the same boat, a bit nervous about burn-in. I just got the extended 4-year warranty for the tv for a piece of mind. I figured in 4 years the micro led will be available for the consumer market and I will be ready for that.

There's a difference between Image Retention & Burn-In. You can get rid of IR. Burn-In is permanent.
exactly. burn-in specifically is becoming more and more rare every year. IR can happen, but itll go away after a couple minutes.
What's the difference

@@alexanderbelov6892 what
A normal person can buy with confidence. A TV/Gaming addict might not want to buy ANY TV, because LCD, OLED and plasma will ALL burn in if you have a TV on 20 hours a day.
@@ovp66223 Not true, don't spread false information.

I have a Sony XBR-65A1E OLED absolutely no problems with burn-in......but I am also a Pioneer Kuro Plasma owner who learned how to make sure that burn-in was never an issue....
The same as me
I still love my Kuro besides for the fact that I’m getting magenta pixeling on high bright/white scenes. Especially when watching hockey. I read it’s a voltage issue that can be fixed in the service menu. I’m afraid of completely ruining the tv to try and fix it. I’m definitely gonna upgrade to an oled when the budget allows.
They don't cover it because its usually caused by the user. Warranties are for defective workmanship only.
Nice! Great sets, both of them
James Stegbauer it’s different with oled.
TV's shouldn't be this complicated. I'll stick with QLED. Good info tho.

Yes.

Exaaaaactly! I wouldn't want my TV deciding how I should live my life 😂
Will letter boxed bars cause a burn in?

It's oled it's not a matter of will but when.
Exactly
Bullshit. If you're playing the same game for 2-3 years, that might be right. Otherwise burn-in is no problem. And while you're just playing the OLED hater without any sources, I can name one: Myself who used an OLED for two years straight without ANY problems.

On a separate note OLED technology has come a long way since its inception although some people may experience burn-ins this flaw has significantly reduced in the newer models.
Imagine buying a tv and not being able to watch content based on static objects, saturated colors, brightness and usage. Couldn't be me.
LOL! I don't worry about that either.
John Smith what idiot does this with ANY TV?
Imagine buying a TV, turning it on at night and seeing clouding and bleeding right out of the box. That's QLED, LED and LCD for you.
Had an OLED for two years and watch the same TV channels every day. No problems, 0 burn-in.
@John Smith Mine doesn't. And thanks for totally ignoring what I wrote.
@John Smith I did, several times, for haters like you. Still a perfect TV, even after 2 years. And no clouding and no bleeding. It's just wonderful.
I agree with you. I got the 55" c8 on black friday and couldn't be happier. The blacks are awesome, i love it. A big step up from my old entrylevel plasma.
Nice! I came from plasma as well. OLED has the same-ish principal.
Thanks again.
if you’re a gamer don’t buy an oled
I am a gamer and I play alot on my oled. So your statement is BS. Still no burnin after two years lel.
@@jesper9147 oled burn is not caused by gaming or what so ever.
Its a lottery. Some good binned panels will never get burnin and some will get quickly burned. But the amount of panels who get burned in is low and most of burn in won't even be noticable. So yeah are you seriously choosing an inferior product (VA) because of that 1% chance of burn in?
You basically talking bout HUD elements?

Nice vid.
tenterhooks... not tenderhooks.
Hi Marcus! Considering what you will be displaying on the TV, I would go with an LCD/LED TV.
Like having a projector with just one bulb life.
Some great points here brilliant video! Just made my first step in to the OLED world with a 55 inch LG 55b8PLA. Gotta say got it home last night and its stunning even on SD TV it looks and sounds phenomenal. I almost went for the qled but the Q9 was an extra 800 pounds but to be fair it didn't have the clarity of the oleds in the store.
Going on over a year on my Ferrari I mean my OLED65C7P and no burn in.
Fantastic picture and those black bars just disappear into the dark.
Great tv.
Boom! Awesome James!
Techno Dad I also have just a what’s that brand? Oh ya Samsung 42 LED in the bedroom for that exact same reason.
I have returned one of those this year cause of burn in had a blob in the centre of the screen that was yellow on a solid pink screen so now I'm here with store credit at Harvey norman looking for the best TV of 2019 so it definitely happens and I'm back to square one cause I've been shown the Q90R isn't worth the money
LG oled TV’s are a terrible investment if you’re planning on using the TV for daily use. I’ve had mine for 3 years and not only does it have burn in from channel logos but there is color shading all over the screen. There is no way these will last 40k hours as advertised.
This dude plays 3-4 hours of games PER WEEK.. yeah Oled isn't for gamers.. real gamers play 3-4hours a day, maybe more depending on the kind of week we're having..

Thanks for the great video. I was on the fence of getting me an OLED TV because of the image retention and screen burn in. After watching your video I'm definitely not on the fence anymore and will be looking forward to purchasing the LG B8 OLED.
Angel Cruz you should wait for the b9 in a few months.
I feel so sorry for you.
I get the feeling this is a bit of a jab at mr 4K and his “story” about OLED ( which was clearly a complete fabrication and utter nonsense). Also Quantum Apotheosis and his bizarre agenda against OLED
Yeah,I've listened to the quantum guy and man does he have issues!! Seriously the guy is off his rocker!...lol!
Quantum is cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs!!!
Quantum and Mr 4k are fake news

_Alot of QA hate lmfao. I want oled to improve. Videos like this hurt oled growth. Stop giving excuses and credit for its half steps. Especially, when you limit usage to avoid these issues._
I just bought a C9, its arriving today. I know what to expect and how to avoid it, just marking this for today so i can give an update in the future.
Awesome! I just got an E9 pre-calibrated and it looks amazing!!
Just commenting so I get a notification when you update 🤣
U can't avoid OLED burn-in. If you're using it, you're losing it; Pixel density that is. Which will ultimately result in burn-in. That's just the inherent nature of an organic panel. Just like anything organic... they age and die.
Once you go OLED you would never go back to LED
Yeah, the PQ is hard to beat!
I’m with techno dad. Two years no problem at all
Nice!
OLED are expensive and will get burn in after 11 years.
Nice vid. Im a gamer so im still leaning towards a top sammy qled. Have you exerienced the samsung top end sets?
I work at a large electronics retailer, and we only have one oled with burn in, because it got stuck at an in-store picture. All other oleds are running demo content from 9am to 9.30pm every day, and at that time are completely powered down. These tv’s can not do their refresh cycle and still do not show any burn in at all. I did find philips oleds are most prone smh
Which is weird because Philip's uses the lg panels.
@@seanlacroix
It has nothing to do with the panels. It has all to do with the control software and hardware in the products that are being released.
While LG supplies the panels they do not supply the electronics.
This summer I travelled across the US and Canada.... and stopped at many Best-Buy stores along the way to view OLED Tvs and ask the salespeople what they thought about the TVs.... Burn-in is a huge problem according to them.....LG's own logo was burning in.... LOL how embarrassing! One salesmen even told me how he bought an LG OLED, took it home and set up to watch, but soon fell asleep for a few hours on the couch..... when he awoke, the TV was screwed: it had burn-in..... of course it was all his fault.
@@dsteffler54 No. YOU'RE embarrassing. Please stop your hate comment wave, just ignore positive videos above OLEDs and continue your pointless travels across the world in order to hear stupid stories about OLEDs.
Because you certainly don't care about the stories that matters most: honest experiences from REAL OLED owners.
I have a Panasonic 65EZ950 since one year now and i'm a real gamer. I play PS4 games many hours a week and listen movies with family regularly and i don't have any burn-in in my tv. I love this tv, i take care of it so when i leave a game on pause for 2 minutes and more, i turn off the tv.

1 year using 55C7 as PC monitor for web browsing, movies and gaming and have 0 burning. I have done something to make sure I do not cause burning. Things like auto hide taskbar, rotating wallpaper, no icons in the screen and generally dont leave the TV on with a paused video.
Hi! Great ideas! I think I might get a new Mac Mini to use for web surfing in the living room.
Every damn tv tech has issues that they can get, but it doesn’t mean every panel is going to have it.
@@MichelleAlexandria-EM If he hasn't experienced burn then he should title his video as such. If I am correct, even a self described LG OLED fangirl like yourself have experienced burn in. I don't believe you are still in denial about OLED burn-in. This guy call himself Techno Dad and hold himself as some kind of Home Theater guru or adviser. However, unlike you, he refuses to tell the people about ugly truth about OLED. They do have great picture quality, however they do have downside, which burn in being one of them.
@Amad Zee, 1:44 - "I think the whole burn-in issue is a matter of user error...if you leave static screens on the TV for long periods of time, multiple times per day, you might experience some burn in..." 9:34 - "So now you're probably asking yourself, why can't we get the OLED self-emissive pixels without the drawback of burn-in..." Ok thanks for your reply.
FFS 😡
Oh No!! That's crazy! Yeah, I haven't changed too many settings and it's been fine.
I may try and reduce it to a comfortable setting once I get it back. 'Once bitten twice shy' and all that.

Darkmanmr47 I will stay with the best picture quality and performance OLED TV in the market
if you take care of it, the chances of real burn in is near non-existent. i would say all lcd's/led's cause burn in but at a slower rate. there's nothing wrong with being careful of what you're doing on your expensive technologies...that goes for everything someone owns -- if you take care of it, less problems occur.
