Just wanna say thank you to the uploader. I keep coming back to this video when I need some sort of inspiration. John’s a transcendent talent, and to hear him speak about his songwriting process is something that is so amazing to hear. Considering how much this song means to me it’s so awesome to hear him talk about it from his perspective
I'm so glad I found this clip. I always wondered how, in his songwriting process (considering the very clear melodic lines in the intro, and lead hook), he still trusted in the power of the lyric we now know as the title...constructed of mainly the root note repeated 6 times.
as much as folks like to hate on this guy, and i ain't his biggest fan myself...he has put in the dam work. the dude knows how to play, and even more important he does not fake it. like, when he plays an albert king lick, it's not just cause he learned a lick and it's in his toolbox, it's because he understands what albert was about and what albert was saying with the lick. and so john uses the lick as an homage to a specific feeling that speaks to something else. lots of folks can learn SRV licks and regurgitate them, but it takes a lot more understanding and heart to play them as an extension of what SRV was "doing". so many guitar players seem to miss the fundemental of what making music is about...which is making people feel something. and john might be cringeworthy in plenty of ways...but i guarantee most of the nerds who just shit on this dude could put one of his songs on and their girlfriend would love it ;)
Worded beautifully, and couldn't agree with you more. John Mayer is not only one of the best guitarist in the world, but he seems like such a good man. If only we could have a friendly conversation with him with a cup of coffee.
@A A thanks! i appreciate you caring so much that you took the time to read what i wrote, and then reply! \you're so kind. keep at it, world needs more people like you.

Hi there, I do not know what amp he is using here specifically, but whatever amp he uses, it's probably somewhere on this list :) equipboard.com/pros/john-mayer?gear=amplifiers
A little unsure as well, but he does mention he uses a Fractal. So, unless he changed, it _might_ be the Fractal Audio Axe-Fx III since that's the only Fractal amp modeler I can see John being linked to in my few mins of research.
Dudes pushing 40 in the friend zone
He’s already pushed 44.
“Good save there” dude fucking insane save

Dude was 100% teasing some last train home licks in there

@@geluidsoverlast932 gadammit! My fav song!
My ex loved this man, back then I never saw the hype. Now that I'm relearning guitar tho, I'm seeing his genius
It is indeed amazing to see that people are now recognizing John Mayer as an innovative master guitarist and not just a good (looking) musician.
@@geluidsoverlast932 good looking musician? I don’t think no one know him for that. At least people under 25
@@jdussuddysus9748
John Mayer fans are either guitarists or fan girls. There are but a few exceptions.
I see him as both he’s a damn good musician and he’s really, really pretty! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
@@jdussuddysus9748 I'd be feeling pretty good looking if I could play the guitar like that, I tell you what

Thank you for sharing
My pleasure.
I'm sooooo glad he went with writing this song
The stuff he said about songwriting is so fascinating

Nice to see John enjoying a few bevies.
So it makes you feel better that he drinks beer? Interesting
@@ERMAV - Mmm, interesting that you presumed that "bevies" means beer. Bevie(s) is short for beverage......
@@redrock1963 ok so let’s say it’s water. I still don’t get why you would enjoy that. But anyway.

Seems so down to earth compared to his legendary work and guitar God status. Criticize a lot of people.... hard to legitimately hate on this person.
