Cracking video 👍👍...have always liked the ol' thumpers...think it comes from spending hours travelling on them up and down the London/Hastings line when they were in service....

Hi John...in service from 1957 to 1986...by then the lines had been electrified...regards Gordy....
Love the tumper sound - is that a tube whistle or was that the original? \m/
I'm not an expert but I think it's original, lots of SR stock has them so occasionally you'll get a depot whistle from an Electrostar or Turbostar.....I think even the HS1 Javelins have them!
@@vincepeterbilt3450 have since had a look on the 1001 site, which says that horns were originally fitted and that the whistles were added in preservation - maybe that's what was nearest to hand at the time \m/
