Christian McBride - Bass
Russell Hall - Bass
Playing duo with Christian McBride would be simultaneously terrifying and so thrilling... but that chemistry that Russell and Christian had in the tradings was absolutely beautiful!
Foreal! The way he's always looking at Russell. I'd be sweatin my ass off
wtf my bass doesn't do this.
I want a refund 😕
Gotta be CGI, homie
3:17 - Birks calls in to say "ya thats cool"
Recently Christian McBride was asked, ”what’s the best way to strengthen jazz music and build the audience?” It’s a pretty simple answer according to McBride. “Make it fun,” he suggests. “There’s a certain human spiritual fun aspect about this music, every other so-called genre of music kind of focuses on it. We get way too deep in the weeds of intellectualizing, analyzing. There’s this subliminal message that you’re smarter than the rest of them if you like this music. We gotta cut that out.”
Thank you Emmet Cohen & Co for doing that.
If this video doesn’t illustrate that quote perfectly, idk what does.
This is why I became a Jazz musician!
hell yea
God, I love the upright bass. The acoustic, genuine sound and feeling of it is like no other instrument.
the lack of a guide for intonation gives it such a human feel, the little variations in pitch feel like a real voice compared to "perfectly" tuned instruments
This will go down as one of the greatest double bass performances ever.
double double bass
That's called holding down the bottom.... LOVELY!
This is the coolest thing I’ve ever seen IN MY LIFE!!!
I’m sitting on the toilet Rn cheering so hard, this is true art, passion and mastery that I’m witnessing and it’s such a joy to see.
Christian just exhilarated to see someone able to keep up with em
Arguably the greatest moment in Double Double Bass jazz history 😀 I love the authentic joy that radiates and even the cellphone beep at 4' makes it just real. Imperfect perfection 👌
This duo is just so FUN, I love it!
I love the quote from Dejection Blues by Ray Brown at 4.20 .This is still putting a big smile on my face
It's so wonderful to hear simply happy, light hearted, SWINGING jazz instead of brainy, brooding stuff! That's what jazz originally was about!
Yes folks, This is what the music is supposed to be, a coherent, funky, fun conversation with an extended vocabulary that pushes all involved to a higher level of thinking and enjoyment!
I can't get over how perfectly seamless the time feels when they trade walking
That was literally the greatest thing I've ever been recommended in my life. Now time to transcribe the solos :) btw if any'one has a transcription hmu pls
This is unreasonably killin
2 master Bass solo’s at once = A magical 🦄. 🎶🎵🎶🎵👍👍👍👍

Wow!
Boy Christian Mcbride is slick. Wonderful piece of music making here.
Wow!!
Amazing to feel Russell's nerves here, in the first half particularly. He definitely became a lot more comfortable by the end. Not to dis him, but as over esteeming great men makes people powerless, recognizing their frailty is uniting, and empowering.
JAZZ on Fire…Thank you Christian and Russell. Keep it coming…
hells yeah
no se si les odio o les quiero, pero solo hacen q cada día sepa más q amo el contrabajo (y el jazz) 🧡

aaaaaaahhhh❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
First time I ever saw Emmet play was with Christian and Marc Whitfield. Watching Emmet knocked me out of my shoes and socks. Not to mention the other two. Some great upper register playing as well. And a good time was had by all
Hahahahaa excelleeeeente !!!!!
❤️ ❤️ ❤️
How does Christian McBride project so well? Is it the wrap around pick-up? Or are his hands just that strong
In this instance it looks like he’s using a realist lifeline pickup and not the wrap-around style. The band on his bass is just for the shoulder bib. Russel wasn’t playing through a pickup so I’m guessing that’s why Christians bass cut through a lot more
McBride is using a DPA clip-on microphone. To answer your question though, yes, thats a stroooonnnnng dude. But to tell you the truth he's not pulling that hard. He has a great set-up, rough ass callouses, and phenomenal technique.
Another thing that contributes is that he's using Spirocores, while I think Russell plays on a full set of Olivs. Those spiros are a hell of a lot brighter and more mid-rangey and cut through a lot more, but those guts that Russell has give a big, cushy, supportive sound for the wider group.
@@McPhersonBassMaster that’s sick! It’s definitely more noticeable in the larger groups.
@@McPhersonBassMaster To be more precise and if you're curious, Russell's gut strings on this session are "Evah Pirazzi Slap" They sound really dark and cushy just like Olivs!
いいねえ。
gotta love the bass
🔥
holy shit
👍👍👍

Damn wholesome low laying goodness
