If there is one person that should come to mind when we talk about faith, it is Abraham. Abraham is called the father of faith (Romans 4). In fact, the three main western religions, namely Christianity, Judaism, and Islam, all point to Abraham as their forefather. Even though God will choose Abraham to create his chosen nation, Israel, Abraham was not a follower of God originally (Genesis 12). God told Abram to leave while he was in Ur (Genesis 12:1), but he settled in Haran instead of going immediately to Canaan (Genesis 11:31-32) because he wanted to stay with his father until he died. Although Abraham left his homeland by faith, he took a pit stop and went on his own path instead the one God told him to go. In other words, Abraham’s faith was a little messy.
