I really like the LG Magic remote but Some people get distracted or confused by the pointer. The 2019 range has made it easier to immediately disable the pointer. On previous LG TV’s the pointer would come on as soon as you move the remote, this no longer happens and it’s a welcome improvement.
This has been tested on 2019 M series LG TV’s.

I HATE HATE HATE that stupid thing. I'm glad LG doesn't make cars. They'd probably think it would be a cool idea to have your steering wheel turn into a microphone forcing you to verbally direct your car in the middle of a 3- point. Thank you, leepspvideo!!
Couldn't agree more.
It’s more reactive and quicker than just clicking through the menu. I don’t understand the hate the cursor gets.
I despise this thing!
I don’t use the web browser and all it does for other apps like UA-cam or Amazon prime is cause endless frustration when it activates by itself.
There should be an option to permanently disable this thing.
@@LostSoulNo301281 It's probably not activating by itself. It's that stupid scrolling wheel in the center of the 4-way cursor control. Any movement whatsoever will activate the pointer. I fixed mine with a piece of masking tape to stop the wheel from moving
Ok life saver here to rescue you all.
Press and hold the back button and home button for 30 seconds. Thank me later. Cursor gone!!!
In the 2019 model at least, waving the remote horizontally also activates the pointer
Thankyou 👍 it worked 😊
I'm about to wave it horizontally out the goddamn window. Stupid bloody "feature".
Thanks, 100% success. Installed the TV 9h ago! Last TV was so dumb a chromecast made it smart 👍
To me "disable" means to turn it off so that it doesn't come back. This only makes it go away right this moment but when you least want it it will be there again. How they have not made an option to completely disable it i just don't get. I think i will be looking at getting a multi remote and code it to my tv. Then this is a thing of the past. Probably something i would have done anyway. I hate the squeaky plastic this has.
If you have an old LG remote, it works on these TVs. I got my remote and just use that
@@ChadBenz This is almost my first LG. I had an LG Plasma tv once but i sold it to my brother (who stil have it). So no old remote for me. But yes, that would have been a nice workaround.
@@ChadBenz any chance you could give me the exact model number on that remote? I don't wanna eBay a random one and have it not work :D
Good morning, I like JJ (above) would also like to know the best choice remote please. I am finding the cursor unbearable, plus I have a Cat so it's only a matter of time before he decides to unleash a flying ninja kick into the TV :/
"To me "disable" means to turn it off so that it doesn't come back.'
Exactly. I want to know how to disable it completely to stop my wife from bitching every fecking time she picks up the fecking remote. Women should be forbidden by law from being allowed to touch the fecking things.
Another tip I learned is to throw the LG magic remote into the garbage and purchase a cheap universal remote.
Which controllers can support the LG CX?
Ok life saver here to rescue you all.
Press and hold the back button and home button for 30 seconds. Thank me later. Cursor gone!!!
@@jamesross3921 omg thanks, every time I set the remote down when watching something the cursor would pop up. Seems to be gone now thanks
My remote I just got don't have a microphone button.. and I can't get a cursor on it so screw it I rather have this one it's only $9
SOLUTION: Go to "accessibility" and turn on "audio guidance", this will disable the cursor and still allow you to make selections. Turn the volume to to the lowest setting. If you are using tv speakers, you'll just have to deal with it. If not, change the audio output to one that is not in use.
I use headphones which receive audio from my PS4, which is completely separate form the TV speakers. Your options will depend on your audio setup
Having a robot lady talk to me even with the volume low is still 58 quadrillion times more annoying than the despicable cursor.
@@SheaHarris Totally understandable. LG needs to fix this.
@@jeremyw.5729 that's why i preffer sony oled.
@@alanperez7227 LG makes Sony panels anyways. They remove that feature but also have better smart features too. I'm actually more of an LG guy personally cause they make their own panels and I like that but I'd rather spend double not to have that annoying "feature" that can't be disabled. Also I'm not really a big fan of their OS. Sony basically just takes an LG panel and makes it good like older LG TVs used to be. Whoever in charge at LG allowed this garbage software/firmware to ruin an otherwise flawless TV watching experience is an idiot. They have the C1 and C2, pretty much licenses to print money. I don't see what the big deal is with allowing people to disable 1 dumb feature and making their smart os stuff way better. My parents couldn't even get crave on their LG. Every other TV I've ever used can get crave without any issue. My boomer parents don't wanna use an Nvidia shield they just want their store bought TV to be able to run apps out of the box that people use. I get that it isn't Netflix we're talking about, but still. Even my brother's TCL TV can get crave out of the box lol
This is not a solution 🤦♂️
Yes, you can permanently disable this feature, but you will need for that 2 the same magic remotes.
First step: register one magic remote with your TV (press OK).
Second step: put that first registered remote in storage and simple use your second UNREGISTERED magic remote with your TV. Annoying pointer will never appear on your screen again.
You can safely press all the buttons on your second remote including OK - no pointer will appear again. Enjoy!
And who is having two remotes for his tv..?
@@awdadwadwad1723 exactly, i will disassembly the damn remote and cut power to the accelerometer or the RF transmitter, will post a video if i manage to doit without destroying anything hehe

Thank you so much! I though the pointer function was broken there for a minute
You forget to mention that you can PERMANENTLY disable the cursor by HOLDING the HOME and BACK buttons together for dozen seconds or so.
Thank you! The pointer was ANNOYING!
As soon as you press ok, it will re-pair with the TV and your pointer returns.
THIS! Is why I’m here!
Thank you. That's what I was after.
I do not see the back button of remote control. Please show me. Thanks

Is there away to disable the raise to wake feature on lg oled tv?,when the screensaver comes on when you haven't lifted the remote for a little while??
I agree the magic remote is great except for one thing - it eats through batteries much faster then the IR remote.
Really ? I've had my tv since it released (2019) and haven't had to change the battery in the remote a single time.
@@HoboTango Do you ever use it?
Battery drain is what brought me here, it eats through Duracell battery in 2 weeks, is there any solution?
OMFG THANK YOU!!! I couldn't figure out how to get the pointer BACK on my new 2020 TV and I am a pretty tech smart. This magic remote pissed me off until I seen this video! Many thanks from AZ USA mate! Cheers for making this!
Super old post but mine suddenly won't come back. I tried everything from this video. I had this TV for 3 years and the pointer was always there but now for some reason, it's gone! How did you get yours back?

@@tengkunadirah5478 your welcome! I glad we both have a remote cursor back! 🙌
Here is the answer you're all needing.
First, you have to edit the quick menu options (the options you have when you press the settings button); Then, include the option "screen off" by clicking on the + button (you'll have to remove one option if there are no slots available). Press "home" to get rid of this quick menu. Unregister the remote by holding back + home. After you get the pop-up message, press the settings button to open the quick menu. From there, go to "screen off" and press the scroll wheel. You will barely see a pop-up message that the remote is being registered again, but the screen will go off. Finally, just press the scroll wheel again so the screen will turn on, and that's it. You can scroll the wheel or press the scroll wheel all you want and it won't come back. .
Bear in mind that the scroll function will no longer work and the microphone function will also cease.
Unfortunately newer TV’s don’t work with this fix. I tried several times with my OLED48A26LA. It switches of but then switches back on and instantly reconnects.
Thank You for that info. That cursor drove me crazy. Yesterday (08-09) was my first day with LG C2 OLED 65'. So far so good.
The title doesn't match with what U r doing
SOLUTION: Go to "accessibility" and turn on "audio guidance", this will disable the cursor and still allow you to make selections. Turn the volume to to the lowest setting. If you are using tv speakers, you'll just have to deal with it. If not, change the audio output to one that is not in use.
I use headphones which receive audio from my PS4, which is completely separate form the TV speakers. Your options will depend on your audio setup.
@@jeremyw.5729 That's quite clever! Just testing with the tv's hbo app, the only thing it'll audibly respond to, is "back". So when you press play, all is normal. But if you can't get rid of the scrobble line fast enough, you will hear "back" audibly when you close it with the back button, Nothing as I feared in the main app, either; it's exactly the same. Though if you're browsing for a while, I imagine it could potentially make you go mad.
Thanks for the tip!
I just wish that there was a way to lock and unlock the remote.
Hi. Is there anyway to modify the timeout of the pointer? I would like to have it enabled a little bit longer.
Thanks
If you have another LG tv, that remote will work for these TVs. I had to go get my old remote to use to get rid of the cursor nightmare
I’ve just got the lgthin q 2023 and it’s the same settings you have still
It kills my battery and i am accustomed with standard remote pls suggest an option to avoid this permanently
Use audio guidance in accessibility and keep the volume low.
Mine doesn’t work , the Center ok button doesn’t work at all.
Gentleman hold the back button an home button (labeled recent ) on the remote to deactivate cursor or to activate it as well . Thank me later
If you want it turned off Permanently (It unregisters the magic part):
Press and hold home and back buttons for about 10 seconds.
To re-register, press center (ok) button.
Works for my AN-MR198A remote
But it pairs as soon as you press OK which is a much used button

Thank you! That bloody pointer is beyond annoying!
I hate that cursor. We can get rid of it temporarily, then the damn thing is back. Time to try another remote. I'm not sure I'd buy another LG just because of this hassle. Thanks for posting, though.
Since it doesn't go away permanently I just made it super small so itll be less annoying.

This video was misleading. Turning off the pointer means to turn it off permanently
Hi leepspvideo! Congratulations for the video! I wold like to ask your help in something... Would you help us in how to set up google home in the LG tv, allowing us to ask google using the magic controller? I think this would help a lot of users. Tank you so much!
I haven’t access to LG TV’s at the moment. I”m sure if you hold the mic button it starts the process. Holding the Prime button starts Alexa setup. Follow the onscreen instructions. Helps if you already have a Google or Amazon account already setup on your phone/computer.
I can't like this video any more than I can like google or elitists and two-party parliamentary systems, because what I want an answer to is the question, "How do I turn off the pointer?", Not "how do I use the discretely interfacing directional pad instead of the pointer?" I wouldn't have a problem with the pointer if I could fuck it off once I had selected the output, but I currently know no better way to get rid of it than to sit on the couch watching it and hating it until it rewards my patience and the discarded remote's stillness by disappearing in its own good time. Wtf.

Magic remote is amazing. Did you know if you had a PDF file on my smartphone like Samsung Note and you screen mirror it. Eg suppose its a chemistry book and you wish to scroll, use the magic remote to move pages Up and Down. You can point to a particular section have the attention focus. Eg this is the Proton, and Electrons are on the shell. No other company or remote does it. I only wish LG had an App to read Adobe files via a USB slot. Sadly they don't, I tried putting documents. The LG TV only reads
1. Music Mp3 files
2. Photos files Jpeg images
3. Video MP4 files
Would you happen to know how to keep the mouse on all the time? Had an update that ruined it. As well as the Xbox being able to turn on the TV through SimpLink

Excellent video. Too bad LG gives NO instructions on all of this. None. I got a 65" C9 about 10 days ago. Just about yesterday, till yesterday, I've been plagued by the Magic Remote getting, um, unhinged from the TV and I'm told to hold the Guide button down for 5 seconds to re-connect the Magic Remote. Yesterday strangely, that stopped, but before that, a few times a day that happened. I complained to LG and they are going to ship a replacement Magic Remote.
I was really pretty upset, but as you have correctly stated, the Magic remote offers both a mouse pointer like function plus a regular cursor-driven click-click function. I have to wait for some more days to see if the remote to TV pairing disconnect happens again.
My accessibility in my options looks exactly identical to yours but mine does not have pointer options listed. Any idea why?
How do I stop my majic remote from turning on my other TV that's about 20 ft away?
If it also has a magic remote it works with Bluetooth. So try covering the infra red remote sensor
Damn cursor! I have a c1 and it makes me crazy how annoying this cursor is. I'd love to unable entirely it's functionality but when we do as you said, if we move the controller just a little bit faster the cursed cursor appears again
I turned my TV on today and both the pointer has disappeared and it's greyed out in settings. I registered it again but still the same problem. The system voice also came on when this started and I can't seem to turn it off.

My up down left and right stopped working, anyone know how to get it back???
Hi. Do you have a video on how to set up the universal remote function? I went through the instructions and it has the icon for set box that indicates it's turned on for universal on/off; but when I press the power button, only the TV turns off. Any suggestions as to why it's not syncing?
I've just gotten a new remote (mr-500g) and after deregistering the initial remote and registering the new one, the red "pointer" dot doesn't show? We can turn the TV on and off MUCH easier, (why I bought a replacement in the first place) but only the menu comes up on the TV? No red dot to act as our pointer?
We've been on a few trouble shooting sites, including LG and UA-cam and followed their instructions but still no red dot? Any suggestions would be great please!! And a properly working remote would be AWESOME 😊😇

How do yo7 Turn off the pointer of an LG remote on a Samsung TV? Samsung don’t use a pointer.
We have two magic LG remotes; the pointer appears to only work on one of them. Is this by design?
Found the answer…you cannot pair more than one Magic Remote at a time. However, a second un-paired Magic Remote is fully functional without pairing, with the following exceptions: 1. Communication is I/R only, not RF. 2. No onscreen cursor. However, menus can still be navigated with the four way buttons and selected with the center wheel. 3. Some third party device controls (like a Roku for example) do not work. Others (like Tivo) do work. 4. No microphone / voice recognition. Registering an un-registered remote to enable the cursor is fairly easy. Just press HOME and BACK simultaneously until the power button flashes and then release them. Then press the center wheel and the remote will be registered (and de-register the first remote). Source:

Please help my remote pointer is not accurate , it doesn't go where I want to point on screen , like not accurate pointer , please give a solution
Use the edges of the screen to line up the pointer. Go from top left to bottom right. After a while you will see how the pointer stops at the edge. Use this method pointing the remote up down left and right to calibrate it.
@@leepspvideo I have tried it by moving it but it's seems somewhat like bad mouse pointer issue , not correcting itself
Sooo my remote still doesn’t activate when I use the arrows.. shaking it doesn’t work for me either. Not sure what to do
Sounds like it’s not paired. Did the remote come with your TV? Did it used to work?
@@leepspvideo yes, it works and came w the tv. I didn’t even know it had a pointer til I saw my family use it on theirs (exact same tv).
@@Rcook422 try resetting the remote.
