There was a movie in the early 70's called 'Southern Comfort' based around some national guardsmen on exercise down in the swamps of Louisiana with Cajun people. In the film there was a well known Cajun band called 'The Balfa Brothers' playing a song called 'La parlez nous et Boire' and sung in Cajun French (I have the L.P.).......This is exactly the same music, not sure about the lyrics though!
Couldn't agree more! Exactly Right! Traditional folk cajun song from 1981 Walter Hill's star studded epic masterpiece! Much older tune that maybe even pre-dates the french settlers in the bayou!

For some reason the words what's the color of money came to me last night. And I was like oh my gosh! I remember a song from the 80's What's the Color of Money. Looked it up ~ And I'm listening to it now in a different way than I did when I was younger.
Stumbled upon the vinyl and though that it was a hip hop album based on the cover. Curiosity led me to buy it, and I got positively surprised. It’s a great pop/funk fusion album that was way ahead of its time.
Top tune of 86 in my professional opinion. Relevant and timeless message. This band should of been big . Great front man for a band. Perhaps they had poor management or this song upset the greedy callous elite.

+Shikiraamzingly so Iagree with you .. green is the color of nature .. red should be the color of love , but red is the latest time the color of blood .. let us think about the real color of money .. is the color of LOVE ...
I think hes talking about money being red because red is stop on the traffic light and money makes everything stop.. and the money isnt green any more because on the traffic light that means go but when you get money you dont want it to go.. because then you have money problems.. that what ithink he means
They only want blood,as they say. But when this was a hit here in the UK we still had our own "greenback" if you like, the old green £1 note that was replaced with the £1 coins they introduced in the 80s. There is a splash of red on our £50 notes.
Back in the day i LOVED a movie called Southern Comfort (1981) and its cool Cajun soundtrack. One song in particular called Parlez Nous A Boire by The Balfa Brothers was my favourite. Listening to it decades later on UA-cam i clocked the similarity between the tune of that and this? I could sing the lyrics of Whats The Colour Of Money to Parlez, they literally have the same tune and with this track releasing AFTER Southern Comfort in 1987? I looked it up and YES Hollywood Beyond talked about using that Balfa Brothers tune as a basis. So cool!
When this was a hit, older people were complaining that this was modern garbage with plastic drum computers and the real music was from the 60s and 70s. I love this song and I also love modern music from this year
You do realize that song, “Parlez Nous à Boire” is a traditional French song likely many decades older then the film “Southern Comfort?” So realistically they could have borrowed its tune from many disparate sources.
@@jayb8298 Yeah, I thought your original post was pretty dumb too! I mean, you literally said “PINCHED the music FROM a film called Southern Comfort…” Maybe where you’re from “pinched” is another way to say “where I heard it…” Nice try though! 😆
@@KahlessTheUnforgettable add your laughing emoji...it really convinces me your laughing.....you've just proved me right with another dumb comment....pure nonsense......
@@jayb8298 Okay, I did add it. Here’s another: 🤣 I am laughing! Who wouldn’t laugh at someone saying “PINCHED the music FROM a film called Southern Comfort…” only to follow that up with “I was just saying where I first heard it…” The two are incompatible my guy. Proved you right how? What were you trying to prove exactly? Unless the word PINCHED means something completely different where you are from. I’m satisfied that you’ve chosen to focus on an inconsequential emoji versus the substance of my comment. Make no mistake, I realize it is hard to man up and admit you misspoke! Now, unless you’ve the testicular fortitude to explain what you meant by PINCHED, let’s just leave it at that, eh? I’m starting to feel secondhand embarrassment for you. Pure nonsense indeed! 😂 EDIT: you’re* BTW
Fantastic song, If your feet stay still phone the Doctor. Open another UA-cam page and run "Islamic remix dance" and kill the sound, watch it will THIS and it is absolutely amazing, you dont have to time it, no matter where this track starts it fits the dancing, amazing
86 why this reminds me of my dad is he paul Newman?😅I always thought this was from the film colour of money with Paul Newman you see my dad reminds me of Paul Newman
It was one of those one-off hits,in the summer of 1986 which was full of them, and I heard it a lot at the time. Just as the "Greed is Good" era was ramping up but a couple of years off reaching its peak. I don't think I've heard it since, until now.
The color of money is not black or white , nor cream or RED .. the color of money is PINK .. the color of LOVE ... thanks to the singer .. I love his attitude ..
Pink is my favorite color, but I think you are missing the point of this great song. I'm sure he means that people have been killed for money and that the red represents blood of the murdered.
I loved this so much I've always remembered it 30 odd years on. And sung it often but didn't know who wrote it. I'd love to do a cover with the original artists.
My Favorit!!! I like Hollywood beyond!!! Overwehlming und Wunderschön und Wunderbar!!! I am Michael Matthias Frohn Mühlstroh und Jesus Christus!!! MF4!!! ❤❤❤😂!!! Make my day!!!
I remember arguing with my stepdad about the name of the song. Me saying it was: "What's the colour of money" whilst he said "What's the number of money". We still had that old renault car.
And, of course, only gorgeous men and half-naked men, with deep, sad eyes dumped there to tempt SOMEONE...eh eh. Think about it. It is also wrong. Very wrong.
I heard this song for the first time today and was so excited to find out EVERYTHING about this band, only to find a really small back catalogue, what a shame!
This song does not sound 36 years old, still better than 99.9% of the shit that passes for music nowadays.
Love it 2023 great memorys Dublin ireland

Ko su po tebi mali ljudi? Ova pesma nije lepa, već upozoravajuća
@@jovankabrankov190A little znači mali broj a ne mali po rastu. Prevod: Šteta što malo ljudi sluša ovu pesmu. Pesma je predivna

I have the album on vinyl. It is outstanding! Should have been a monster hit 👍🏻
M e too! And so many people dont remember this song when you mention it to them.. Always thought it was and still is fantastic
