I turned 57years old in December. Still working full time, 33 years in my profession. I continue to work toward slowing down, having moved to a cottage rental in a rural area, minimizing my belongings (still reducing), and trying to enjoy the present while also planning for the future. I think you are doing great in all the ways you have simplified your life!
It sounds like you have a wonderful mindset :)
How do you do that?
Your dog is soooo cute ❤
I spent years doing less and less, relaxing and being in the moment. My life was so slow that needed to speed it up again . So now I am busy teaching others to slow down and be in a moment. Finding inner peace and being able to stay in that state no matter how busy you might be is the best if you ask me. And gratitude on the go... truly enjoying and soaking each moment. Happy 2023 everyone! ❤
Such good words, thank you! 😊💚
I can relate to what you are saying. I worked in two different toxic work environments where I experienced both out in both work environments. It's not how I want to live either. I'm now working in another job that's not toxic and I haven't experienced burn out in this new work environment.
I want to live a slower life because of age. Constantly working, running errands and doing things in my home prevents me from slowing down. That's what I am working on is to slow down.
gratitude journaling is great. It really improved my mental health and fortitude.
Less is definitely more. Don’t just slow down, stop. Listen to your heart. What makes your soul sing? Do more of that. Social media is a double edged sword. I’ve ditched all but UA-cam and tbh I’m hanging on here by a thread. It’s not real. You can’t be in the real world while you’re immersed in the virtual world. Be present. Listen to your intuition. Read books, connect to nature in new ways … grow stuff, take photos, swim in a lake, run in the forest. Cook, craft and create. And remember, the most important people in life are those you can hug. I hope you find your why, your happy, in 2023 🙏 xx
Thank you for your lovely words :)
@@hippyhighlandliving You're welcome xx
Just wanted to say 'hi' - been watching your videos non-stop for the last little while, then I discovered you've lived on Arran...then realised I'd visited your mums studio during Arran Open Studios. Thanks for sharing bits of your life with us. I do Arran-based videos with high knitting/fibre related content as a knitted. :). Andrew
Hello! So happy you are enjoying my content and very cool that you visited my mums studio! 😊💚
Hi Molly, your channel helps me in accepting myself as HSP which I didnt know even had a name, still we have so much in common. I turned 49 this past January and now just felt a need to find ways to make a living in a way that suits my energy level. Its something I always felt that I couldnt do things the way everyone else was doing. I do hope as I become more accepting and bolder in my steps that I will come to see myself living the vision. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Lia
I can so relate Molly, it has taken me decades to realise that I simply don’t have the energy levels of so many people, so I pushed and pushed till I realised that it was okay to be different to others, that I had to conserve my energy for what I truly wanted and needed to do, not live up to others expectations, it’s not easy but I feel a lot freer and more accepting of who I am as a hsp. Good luck on your journey, blessings from Australia
Thank you lovely! I'm so happy to hear you are prioritising yourself :)
To be soo tired at 30. I am 55 and live alone and work ft in busy NHS job and run a house. But well done to you living a dream! Beautiful views
Hi Molly I remember you talking about being a highly sensitive person and that is something to be aware of. Becoming very tired is part of it as we are being affected deeply by what is around us. Self care is vital and listening to how you are feeling. I watch the Cottage Fairy on you tube she is based in America and she is very young and mentions tiredness and self care as being very important as she is a highly sensitive person. Take care and have a wonderful year!
Thank you lovely. Yes I watch the Cottage Fairy too! Such a wonderful channel 😊💚
Happy New Year. I am slowing down this year. I took a risk and left a busy pressurised, well paid job in December without having another one because I had enough of the pressure. I was lucky and found another job in a local shop just a few hours a week which will allow me to do more and work less. We live in a beautiful part of the country and I want to explore more plus do more of my new amazing hobby cold water swimming in the sea and rivers. The swimming is so good for mental health and well being and has also meant I have made new friends too. I am doing more cooking to keep the food bills down, joined a book group and I am enjoying those too so I have definitely started my plan to slow down this year and I am loving it.
It sounds like you've crafted a wonderful slow life, good for you! 😊💚
Bless you my lovely ❤With age comes wisdom and a sense of who you really want to be. Do what’s right for you, we all say what we want with good intentions but actions speak louder than words. I’m 60 this year and can honestly say that’s when I turned 55 I put my intentions into action.Almost 5 years on and I’m getting there, slowly. I understand that I have years and years of programming to change. Happy new year xx
Thank you for your comment lovely :). Happy New Year!
Burnt out at thirty! I am 73 and a widow, I now have everything to do,so I can’t be burnt out…after working all our lives and also caring for dependent family members were both looking forward to a nice retirement ..my husband became ill and died in 2021…can’t understand you young ones…but I do wish you well…
Happy New Year! 🎉
Wishing you the best for 2023. 🙂
I'm slowing down because of age and health, but I still plan to work towards my dreams. I like to think the journey is more meaningful than the final achievement.🌿
Thank you for this video, bravo! I can relate in so many ways. This year I'd like to simply read more books and learn to knit. Wishing you a peaceful 2023 ✨
Thank you! Such lovely goals :)
Honest and great video!
I think it's going to be a great year for you Molly, and I look forward to watching more of your beautiful and calming videos. Go forward with all your good intentions!!
Thank you for your support lovely :)
I’ve been trying to do the same, Molly, by slowing down and keeping life simple, but people are demanding and holidays are hectic. Now that it’s over, I plan on thinning out what I own and spend more time reading important books and back to exercising. I took a break from that too and my body hurts when I don’t walk and lift weights. Here’s to finding peace and a slower pace in this new year ☺️👍🏻👍🏻
It sounds like a wonderful plan :)
You are an inspiration 🕊🩵🙏🏼
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and life with us. 🩷💐
Happy New Year! Connecting with nature and living more simply IS the best. I'm trying to do the same, although finding the balance is hard for me as I'm a veterinarian in a rural area that has slowly lost all of it's veterinarians. I worked 12 1/2 hrs this Friday and still didnt see everyone who needed seeing. I'm also in my 60s and have started writing down not only what I am grateful for, but also I write down that "I am happy, healthy and joyful" because they say that if you write it down over and over as if it already is, then it suddenly happens. Case in point, normally if I've worked a 12 hr day I am exhausted, cranky and tired, but instead I found that I was feeling happy, healthy and joyful. Huh! That stuff really works! More power to you!! Hugs.
That's so interesting to hear! I hope you find some quiet time to rest :)
Happy new year Molly!
I don't do new years resolutions, as I don't like putting pressure on myself.
I agree, I think that when you start work, you don't know any different and automatically become corporate. Once you've gained experience you can reject/adjust that and choose paths that make you happy. Thirty is a great age to be able to do that.
I was ejected from the corporate world age 34 and became self employed. (I don't recommend 100% self employment tho due to the discriminatory benefits system in the UK).
I'm probably undiagnosed Aspergers, and that might explain a lot in my life.
So many people are living unfulfilled lives 😢
Thank you for your comment lovely 😊💚
i just stumbled on you channel today, and it's been such a refreshing experience watching your journey! i am 35 this year, hustled my whole life for "success," and just ended up miserable and burned out despite looking like having everthing on paper. i grew up big cities my whole life, but i find myself drawn more and more to slow living and country life.. i think our generation was taught that financial and economic status would bring us happiness, but i see more and more people our age stepping out of the rat race to slow down and find our true selves and our own happiness :) your vlogs have been very inspiring to me, i hope you keep making content and sharing your journey!
Thank you for your comment! I'm so glad you found me! Yes I agree that things seem to be changing :)
I am also trying to slow down this year. I tend to want to be super productive and walk very fast. I experienced a lot of grief last year and I’m trying to give myself lots of space and slowness to get through it. I am starting with trying to slow down when I do meal prep and just be very calm about it instead of trying to rush through it. I’m also trying to slow down when I walk. Love your channel!
That sounds wonderful! I completely understand the temptation to rush. I wish you luck with your slow journey 😊💚
Thank you Molly, really enjoyed watching your film and listening to your points of view and plans for 2023, inspiring. As long as you enjoy making films for YT I will enjoy watching them, so glad you will be continuing to explore your creative side in this way👍. For me slowing down in 2023 will mostly be about trying to finish one thing before rushing in to begin another. Having less balls in the air to juggle which ultimately all have to compete for my time. Looking forward to seeing how that goes!
Thank you lovely. That sounds like a wonderful goal 😊💚
Great video as always Molly and you always inspire me 🙂
Thanks beautiful! ❤
Happy New Year! I hope 2023 is a wonderful year!
Thank you! You too :)
Beautiful video! I think it's important to find a healthy balance. Just being slow it's not the answer. But as you already said: This is also your journey and your experience!
Thank you!
Thank you for this video! I wish you a very happy new year and I'm looking forward to everything you are going to post here, since I deeply enjoy your calming videos! Have a lovely week!
Thank you! I'm so glad to hear that 😊💚
I really resonate with you and how you’re feeling. I’m someone who is always looking for more projects and things to do rather than take time for just being. In fact I’ve forgotten what it’s like to “just be”! Good luck with all you’re doing lovely. I’ll look forward to you updates. Much love from Diane at Woodland Tales xx
Thank you lovely!
Thank you for your inspiring videos Molly! 🤩 I love the way you put them together with the music, narration, scenery shots, Sky the lovely woofer and then with you back in your cosy tiny home discussing your words of wisdom with us!
My motto for this year is, 'Keep life simple.' 😉
With regards to you feeling the need to focus more on your writing this year, I wondered if you have read or come across Julia Cameron's book 'The Artists Way'? Her suggested practice of writing daily 'Morning Pages' which she describes in her book (and in various UA-cam videos), may assist you along your path. 🙏
Blessings to you for a positive 2023! Do what lights you up and and keep on shining your beautiful (AKA - 'BE-U-TO-THE-FULL!') Light! ✨💛 IN-joy! 🙏🦋
Thank you lovely! Yes I have read that and its a great idea to get writing :)
I really hope you are okay. To be just 30 and feeling tired at the end of a year that you have taken back for yourself so much already is concerning me to be honest. I hope you will be able to achieve whatever you wish for this coming year. A very Happy New Year to you.
Thank you :)
Happy New Year Molly! So thankful I found your channel. I’m Scottish but I’ve been living in Australia with my Romanian hubby & our 3 wildlings for the last 10 years. We are very much a slow simple living family and I just adore your videos. A little taste of home, I love watching them with a cuppa ☕️ 💗
Thank you lovely! 😊💚
You have many 2022 a good year and now you are in 2023 you have a bright future ahead of you and your vlog too
Thank you! 😊💚
🧡
It's so, so hard to slow down with kids. I'm trying though. I often feel very burnt out, raising teens and dealing with teen stuff is so not easy when one needs a slow, quiet life in order to thrive. =(
Thank you so much for another inspiring video. From watching your videos over the last month you've made me look at my own life and where I can make changes and start to slow down. I've just started reading The Unexpected Joy Of The Ordinary after seeing your recommendation and loving it so far! Looking forward to more of your videos in 2023. Xx
Thank you for your support lovely! I'm so glad you are finding value in my videos and enjoying your book :)
Really good goals for this year; and happy new year!! We did our biggest minimizing of posessions last year in March; since then, we are now at the point where what we have, is what we really really appreciate having, and desire to have nothing more (as far as in-the-home posessions, etc.). I have lists of things I try to get through each day: some are chores, and the others are the ones that I'd actually enjoy dedicating more time to, but cannot as I work full-time; so, I do what I can. I just finished reading a really good book: Four Thousand Weeks by Oliver Burkeman. I really enjoyed it and highly recommend. My biggest take-away (for me personally) was that it's actually healthy to spend time doing things that one does for the simple joy of that thing in itself, even if one is not a professional at-it; example: I love to watercolour, learn piano, learn Italian, study geography & read just about anything and everything... all these things bring me great joy (journalling too; nature walks, etc.), but I don't do any of them with the thought in mind that someday I'll sell a painting or play at a concert. I've always worried that I spend too much time doing things that won't 'provide' anything outside of the joy they bring me, and this book confirmed that that's actually a sign of something good from within... this gave me hope 😂 for the existential crisis we probably all feel from time-to-time! I've always been great at spending my time doing things I love doing (with the time I have left after working / chores), but I've always worried that nothing I enjoy doing, has actual merit in the world we live in (where it should all end in some sort of monetary gain). Anyway, have rambled on too much (as I always do!). Hugs, and again, happy new year!! x
Thank you for your comment lovely. That sounds like a wonderful book d great lesson! 😊💚
Happy New Year Molly. My husband and I are in our 70s we do live a quiet life some what. The last couple of years it's been hard because of health issues with my sister taking care of her and my own health issues. Lots of appointments. It we are so tried. Things are starting to slow down so maybe we can have some quiet time..💚
I hope you do manage to find some quiet time :)
I would love to slow down more but I have to work 2 jobs just to pay the bills. I have 3 boys still living at home so I have to make sure I can feed them too. My life goal is tiny living and not needing to rely on so much stuff but its just so hard at the moment. I think about it all the time. Just quitting my job and doing what I really want but with the way things are right now I just can't. It cost to much to even get started. I have a feeling I am going to work until the day I die.
I can relate I would love to slow down. I find it difficult because I always feel like I should be doing something every time I try to relax. I too have read more books in 2022 than ever before so much so that I bought a kindle.. I loved the beautiful music in the video :) Happy new year
Thank you for your comment lovely! Reading is a wonderful way to slow down but I agree it can be really difficult 💚
I can't slow down. This is the 'official' year I'm supposed to retire, yet my projects increase, and life increasingly makes demands. Not complaining, as it's one heck of an adventure. My biggest problem is that I don't have enough decades left to do everything, and many dreams have been shelved as I can't fit them all in.
Happy and healthy new year 🙏. The area you live in is stunning and the cat was so sweet. Was it a neighbours cat? Best wishes for you and your channel
Thank you lovely! She's my families cat. A little old lady now 😊💚
You are young enough to do then be able to save. You cannot do it when older. Well done
Happy new year indeed! For more local exploring, I made a mini bucket list of tours. It includes landmarks or natural features or areas that I’d like to see. It’s been a stone bridge, a spring, a stand of White Pines, and more. Simple but so fun. Taking time to notice what is right here. And beautiful. 🌲💦
Such a lovely idea! :)
Beautiful colours in this video. What camera do you use?
Thank you! Its actually just my phone, a Samsung S20 😊
What would life be without a faithful furry friend?
When I was vegan, I did feel more tired and burnt out over time. I didn't want to stop being vegan, but ultimately it was good for my health. It is something to consider.
I'm sorry to hear that was your experience. Personally, despite the fact that I still feel burnt out at times, I've found I've had significantly more energy following a whole food plant based diet, which I'm so grateful for 😊💚
Happy new year! I always love your videos. I hope your quality time with your family was filled with joy and peace.
Thank you!
