The Tang dao turned out to be too dull for clean cuts. It can go through the mats with extra force, but even with good alignment the result is not pretty. On the upside the thickness and grind makes it strong and highly damage resistant.
The kriegsmesser performed exactly how I expected from looking at the blade geometry, slicing through the mats flawlessly. Handles beautifully too.
And what a surprise the fantasy polearm was... The handling is a bit weird due to the unusual balance, but the cutting performance is amazing. Such clean slices with minimal effort... noice!

Big shoutout to the homie who lets you use his backyard for cutting, he's a real one for sure!
Agreed, that dude is equally as important a Skall is haha. Kudos the backyard guy/girl!
Yeah big ups
Indeed! Massive kudos for helping Skallagrim in need. 👍
I'd let skall cut shit in my backyard anytime
absolutely, hes the man
"Humans are not made of tatami"
You learn so much in this channel.
Doesn't that depend on how much tatami water you drink?

When a blade strikes bone, it clangs like steel on steel. I know this from painful experience... fortunately it was only falling, not being driven, so I still have both hands
I know you mentioned in the other video that you weren't 100% happy with this set-up's lighting and such, but from the perspective of a viewer, it looks perfectly fine.
I have to agree with that.
Yeah, I was about to say that. More than good enough.
Skall may be picky about his videos, but I’m not picky about Skalls videos. :)
We are all fine with the setting and everything Skall. Maybe this calls for a new series: "backyard shenanigans"?
@@claptrap4084 You have my vote for "Backyard Shenanigans" XDD

Well, found my new euphemism for piss.
Haha. Yup.

Skall Theory: The real reason Skall hasn't made cutting videos for the past year is that he has been saving up his pee in preparation for this video.
Saving money by not buying tatami's and using your pee.
Efficient.
Might just be the new gamer girl bathwater
I'm sure this is probably been suggested but could you get a big huge ham hock from a butcher and cut through that? Get a leftover that a butcher is just going to throw away, I don't know just a suggestion!
If that were the case I'd worry about his kidneys.
Thank you HaHa XD i thought the same. But this is awesome and
@@c0mbat_m0nkey5 youtube wouldn't go for that, same reason he stopped using gel dummies.

The ring that the Kriegsmesser makes is fantastic.
Sweet music.
tzschriiiinnnggg!
I have to say: I love many sword designs a lot, but the Messer has a special place in my heart.
The confusion at how well the Cooper Khopesh cuts is absolutely hilarious
I didn't realize how much I missed test cutting. I was basically giddy seeing a test cutting video again.
Shoutout to the guy who lets you use his yard to do test cuts, what a lad. You mentioned in a video you weren't content with the quality of lighting and other issues with this location but as a viewer I have to say it looks great, hope we get more of these in the not so too far future.
Hey, just commented to say i find your haircut rlly badass
Have to agree. These videos are half the reason I first subbed
The second warm up slash was so perfect that the bottle remained intact.
He forgot to sheathe the sword afterwards and make the bottle explode.
The cut was perfect. The bottle just didn't realize it yet.
It is said that if she'll Lynn can pass needle right through glass. It is true I have seen it but it is not true that the glass remains unscaved.
6:40 I love how skall just stands in the background, front facing.
How else did you expect me to look at his cut? With my back turned? xD
Nothing's more satisfying than that perfect ring of the sword.
Skall: I have no faith in this
Also Skall: oh, this cuts like butter
I'm dead 😂😂😂
Thanks so much to that guy Liam (I think that is what Skal called him), for letting our favorite youtuber get back to cutting tests in his back yard! YOU ARE A FREAKING LEGEND MAN! Also, awesome video Skal, that fantasy design cut like a damn DREAM! I would love to see you get a more durable version made, that could stand up to clashing with other weapons and armor just to see if it could still cut as well!
I can't believe this gave me Nostalgia, it's been a while. By the way i don't remember playing Sly Copper and choping off limbs that easily.
I'm guessing the garage door. The first second gave an impression of a scene recorded at B&I Victoria, but never shown before.
Yeah xD i was surprised there's a bladed version of the cane.
Makes me surprised they don't just call it a cane lol shit, I'd walk with that any day ♥

This was a very fun video. Thank you Skall.
Same.
Could have a fun ability where it can unroll one of its arms and wrap up a target, maybe even hit other people with the wrapped up person. Maybe it can flatten itself out and look like just a floor until it attacks.
@@natashasurvivallady8021 great ideas. It might be unrolled on the floor of a wizard’s house as a guard. When someone enters, WHUMP! It rolls up on them and attacks them.
As a backyard cutter myself that one cut where the bottle didn’t move are the cuts I live for. Coopers cane was awesome. Glad to see you testing weapons again
It looked like it was just gliding thru whatever the target was.

P.S.: I'm not sure I ever saw Skall so dumbfounded at how well a weapon worked
You should see him with the principe
Gaben van den Brink This is true, but this thing is video game weapon, so it’s even more shocking.
The way you swing that khopesh polearm type thing around and how you talked about the handling makes me think of it like a shortened naginata with a mace on the end. Incredibly interesting to see how easy that thing cut.
So happy to see you are able to do weapon testing again! I loved it! I mean I do like seeing your weapon reviews but actually seeing them in action is what I really love
I remember in another video you had said you weren't super happy with the lighting/setting here; but let me just say from out here in viewer land....I'm just happy to see you cutting/testing again.
I squealed so loud when I saw that first cut with the Kopesh! Quinn did an amazing job and made a vicious edge!
Also thanks Liam! your a real one!
♥
I have never seen someone look so borderline offended at the sharpness of a weapon before. Simultaneously awesome and funny.
Ligitimatly my jaw dropped seeing how well it cut
Big shout out to Liam! Also can we see the sly cooper fantasy weapon used on a ballistic dummy? Would love to know if its as good at stabbing and gut ripping as it is at cutting
One of the things you need to know about tatami cutting is that wet tatami smells absolutely horrid. If you want to soak the mats, do it outside if you don’t want to have to fumigate your house for a few days.
The sly cooper inspired weapon has to be my favourite piece that skall has, even if it isnt historical. It just looks so cool and looks to handle rather different from most other weapons
That's why we chose it as the winner of the design contest! :)
The face of total surprise when cutting the tatami like nothing has made the video for me
That cooper cane may have a thin blade, but I personally think it makes up for it with it's sheer cutting ability. If I had to take a guess, it would be very effective versus padded armor which makes it a decent weapon for fighting a common prepared target. Plus, it has decent versatility too for being single-edged and more polearm-ish
You can also use the end like a hook sword and the other end like a mace. It’s very versatile. Hell you could probably lock an enemies sword with how far the curved point comes back around, and it looks like it could have an effective thrust as well.
@@Nachtmar3 blade for the peasants, mace for the knights
Your reacting to how easy you have it with the Sly Cooper cane/pole arm are priceless
Good to see you at it again, Skall! Keep it up! Unless you accidentally cut yourself, the practice and movement can only make you healthier.
Dude I used to live for these testing videos when they were more frequent, so happy to see it's back
the physics of that twohanded axe thing totally checks out. It looks like it isn't using the weight of the blade at all, but the anchor piece at the bottom with how it's swung and the rest of it has to follow through with the swing because that anchor.
Also wouldn't mind a small unwind chat while doing clean up.
This makes my soul happy
That cane one is basically the premise for surgeon's scalpels. So thin that even a modest edge has no resistance.
It's good to see you test cutting again! You look really happy. I was also impressed with the polearm's cutting ability. Also, much respect to the guy letting you cut/film at his place.
That polearm-kopesh is insane, love it
Nice to see ya in natural habitat cutting some nusty bottles XD
MOM WAKE UP SKALL IS TEST CUTTING AGAIN
Thank you to your friend for allowing you to film. This is great ! I would love to see some messer action 💖
0:40 I swear to god, for a second there I thought he did the thing from the movies where you cut so cleanly the bottle didn’t move. For about half a second, my entire thought process on what was possible exploded.
Thanks Liam for hosting Skall ! Got a new cutting video because of your generosity and mental fortitude! I can now rest easy at night.
Thank you Skall for sharing this with us. That sword is amazing
The Messer is always fun to see, "German engineering is the finest in ze world!" Quote for the memes. :D
Was not expecting the modified Sly Cooper-like weapon to cut so well! The weight on the opposite end possibly helps pull the blade on through a cut, despite feeling so awkward? Generally weight on the same cutting end seems more practical from what I've seen. That blade being to thin and razer sharp definitely helps make it so effortless. Great for soft targets but as we know when Skall cut with the Albion Principe (past video), if it twists in wood grain, or stuck on hard targets, then durability is a glaring weakness of such razer sharp blades. Thanks for the videos Skall!
That Cooper Cane Kopesh is basically what if Sly Cooper designed his cane with killing in mind.
Not exactly on topic, but it seems like you have been losing weight! Looking great Skall!
I was gunna say that a couple vids ago.
Skall's energy and eagerness is obvious. He missed this as much as we did.
I like how that multi-purpose short-staff thing turned out to be the underdog who went the distance.
Who cares about the setup not being perfect? At least you get to do cuts again!
Wow! Who would have thought cutting could be THAT easy!!
Even rusty, still fun to watch - take care and enjoy!
Ahhh, The Master is back!
Loved the pole kopesch.
I must say Skall, it's good to see you test cutting after so much time! Feels like we're home again!
That cap chip was impressive indeed, I wouldn't even dare to dream of such precision ^^
Oh my goodness, those clean cuts with the Cooper Khopesh were satisfying. I could see it in your eyes that you wanted to keep that thing. Haha. Great job on the cutting, and a major thanks to Liam for letting you cut there!
This kopesh cane looks promising, can't think of anything quite like it

Glaive?
@@kuesdav Maybe, but I dunno if it checks all the boxes for what is usually defined as a Glaive (historical version, not the Krull version)
@@sifuculreif6448 Oh it definitely does not. But, is the closest thing I could think of. Close, being the operative word here. Seems like a pretty unique thing, otherwise. Short glaive or short naginata, neither being anything more than close. Ish.
I forgot how fun cutting/weapon test videos are to watch. Thanks for the great video Skall
Very nice to see you back again at cutting. Also thanks to the homie for the yard. Keep it up Skall.
Great to see some cutting return to the channel! I can't wait for more sword reviews! I've bought a few Zombie Tools blades after seeing your old reviews and would love to see your thoughts on them a few years later.
Thank's Liam. You're awesome.
This video sure put a smile on alot of peoples faces
Thanks to the guy who let you record there. Seeing your surprise at the khopesh was golden
Very enjoyable to watch, thank you for taking the time to do so for us!
Big thanks to Liam!
Great to see you cutting again. I'm happy for you, Skall.
I love how he’s gushing over the khopesh design, since swinging it like an axe fits perfectly into the history of the blade. The khopesh was a blend between a conventional sword and an axe.
If I were to make an adjustment to the design used, I’d make the handle longer, like a reinforced quarterstaff
Oh, he made a review about it, it's actually weapon based on a game (I forgot the name, but the character is a fox)

The "oh, nevermind" is probably one of my favorite skall moment of the year

Just had a thought as to what the Cooper Sickle staff is like, well sort of, Guan Dao (also known as Kwan Dao). Although Guan Dao are more like shortened oxtail daos with spikes/hood on the spine at the end of big sticks
good to see you back doing what you love brother... godspeed and hope to see more bladed buffoonery in the near future
If this is the setting you were unsatisfied with in terms of lighting and such, I'd just like to say that this looks absolutely perfect from a viewership perspective.
If I remember right, they put green bamboo inside the tatami mat to represent the bone. Green bamboo is supposed to have a similar density to soft living bone (not dried bone).
Glad to see the cutting videos again can't wait for more.
with that hybrid polearm thingy im sure what makes its cuts so clean is the fact that with that wide 2 handed grip edge alignment becomes so much easier.
Wonderful to see you cutting stuff again 🤗
Glad to see you getting back into the swing of things.
No matter if you think you're rusty, it's ALWYAS incredibly satisfying to see you elegantly slice through a tatami mat
Happy to see you cut testing again . love your channel. .. You seem to be in better spirits as of late my friend almost lighter in the shoulders. I am happy for you ,
It is good to see you having fun with cutting again.
I absolutely love the little ”cling” noice the messer makes
The sound ls just amazing, especially when the cut is so clean.
Awesome. These are my favorite videos. Love the original weapons
I'm genuinely surprised that the super dull Chinese short sword actually cut anything. I expected it to be a baseball bat after you were able to run it against your hand without any cuts.
Because it has good edge geometry.
Back to the slashy-slash! And the mess. I never really thought about the level of cleanup all that entails.
Thank you Liam!

Glad to see a new cutting video! Try sharpening that Dao, I have the same one and it cuts tatami amazingly when sharpened
