I don't believe that Rose intended to have this sort of effect on Pearl, Hell, I'm pretty sure that she didn't even mean for Pearl to fall in love with her. Pearl does have a problem with inferiority to others, she admits to Garnet that she needs someone to follow and to tell her what she should do. I assume that after being with Rose through thick and thin, and being with her in the war, she most likely developed an unbreakable bond with Rose. Anyway, that's my... I don't know, take of the symbolism. Lol. Btw, I love this picture. The colors are so vivid. :D

I think it's how pearl can only see one side of rose the good side and this makes her very fragile because if some one shatters this ideal way of seeing rose she might lose her mind just knowing she might not have been all that good. Just a thought love the painting!

However, Rose doesn't specifically realize that she, herself, is the reason why Pearl continues to do so, and so she's sort of absentmindedly continuing the cycle of Pearl risking her life whithout realizing it. Anyway, the drawing is really well-made! I love your art style! Keep up the fantastic work!
I think the reason Pearl was so fiercely loyal to Rose (besides the obvious, she was in love with Rose) is because she is a Pearl. Pearls are supposed to be loyal servants, and even though our Pearl isn't a homeworld gem built to serve she may have retained some of those traits regardless.
When I see this I think of the saying "I will be your sword." And Pearl was Rose's sword, willing to do anything really. Then you look at the symbolism of roses, and while you get the love and passion most associate a rose with, it has also been shown to symbolize Life and Death. Paradise is another symbolism for the rose. And Rose Quartz could potentially be considered something of a paradise to Pearl, however that might be far fetched. Finally Rose's eyes aren't visible. When used in certain medias, this is used to show that an event had impacted someone to the point of unpredictable actions. Or maybe I'm just looking too far into this.... Ah well, I'll stop my rambling.

I'll try the guessing game 😂 i think this is some kind of representation of the hanahaki disease. but instead of vomiting the flowers, Pearl releases them through other openings in her body. i think it's that way because, being an almost immortal being and all that, she can't die, so the disease just worsened and worsened after creating a bond with Rose, falling in love with her, and then her fading out of existence into the form of Steven. she always knew Rose could never reciprocate her feelings, where Rose never knew she even had feelings for her. she just always thought it was Pearl's nature as... well, a pearl - a mere servant and slave to those of higher status. i guess, if Rose hadn't turned into Steven, those problems would have continued but with Rose falling in love with Greg as an added issue. with all these problems weighing down on Pearl, she would probably just want to be shattered. but not just by anyone, she'd want it to be Rose. with Rose being a compassionate, empathetic (almost human) gem, she gives in so that her dear best friend doesn't have to suffer any longer. that's why she's turned away from Pearl, not because she's cold towards her, it's because she doesn't want to have to see her gem broken and her body nonexistent. well, that's just my take on the guessing game. might not make any sense, but eh 😂

Hey I just thought of this while watching but here goes. It's random but here it is, Warning this is long AF read to your own content. I think that PD's hair is supposed to represent the flower or bud that everyone loves, whilst RQ 's hair shows the vines and thorns of said bud. She shows her thorns in this form, in the other she is just a simple rose to be gazed at. RQ is hated (by almost everyone) while PD is loved (by almost everyone) anyways I think this is just a fun lil thought if anyone wants to elaborate or build with this please do. Edit: oh and also I think the pic represents how Rose has stabbed Pearl through her heart ( if they even had this organ XD) hurting and breaking her heart. Also could be taken as stabbing her in the back as in ordering her not to speak the truth causing (physical?) mental and emotional harm to her even if it was unintentional. The Roses in her eyes may represent how she thought about rose 24/7 back when Steven was still a new concept to them. Like when she was teaching Connie she kept thinking of Steven as Rose because she may have been taught how to fight by rose and there for has old memories bc of said training.
