She was only 68 years old. Her premature demise was a great loss to Hindustani classical music but end to her suffering.

I have grown up into adulthood with sharp memories of her first 2 cassettes released from Rhythm House Once you heard Veenaji, there was no looking back! I remember her rendering her special brand of musical magic one early Sunday morning at Dadar Matunga Cultural centre, Mumbai many years ago. Experienced an absolutely ethereal experience then which has stayed with me over the years!! In the Tenth chapter of the Bhagavad Geeta, 41st verse, the Lord tells Arjuna that in whatever beauty or majesty perceieved in manifestation, that is because of an 'amsh' of the Lord in that person. So that 'amsh'of the Lord in Veenaji's Vaani must have given it the Divine quality! The sombre and deeply introspective feel of the raag is brought out with such reverence by Veena ji. Amazing voice quality, control and profound understanding of the chalan of this Raag which could easily get mixed with another similar raag, Vasant.
