Great video. We took the mast down in Hop-O-Nose in July 2023 and these guys are great, professional and quick. Everyone was very nice and helpful. Even drove us around to the hardware store and gave advice on building the cradle . For a 45’ sailboat, it’s peace of mind. Catskill is also great if one needs groceries or other supplies and there is a nice little restaurant at the marina. I guess it’s all related to the scope of work to do and… the size of the mast!
Try using a wax ring from a toilet.Get it at Home Depot. Just jam it down the space between the mast and the deck. It works 100% waterproof Easy and cheap.
Fantastic video for those first timers on the Canal! We purchased our boat from Boston Ma and sailed it home last May to Leamington On (first time on the canal for us). We used your videos as you traveled from Buffalo NY east to NYC as guide as to what to expect. Thank you for the videos! They helped us out so much.
One of the things I like about your series ( besides being Canadian ) is that you spend some time to talk about some of the cost and logistics issues of cruising. I stopped watching those sailing channels that were nothing but a "travelog", as it is never perfect and there are always challenges. It is the challenges we all worry about, and that's why we watch. My comment is that perhaps you missed an opportunity to educate us "wanabees" what the full process of stepping and tuning a mast, in case we were required to do it ourselves. Another episode perhaps ?
Hello, I like to bring a sailboat from Rock Hall, VA to Toronto Canada. I wonder if it is all motoring all along as there is not much open space for sailing . Thanks
Loved the Erie Canal series! I'm a truck driver and every Friday, my route takes me along I-90 from Syracuse to Albany. This week as I heading home, I noticed that several of the Locks ease of Fultonville, are completely flooded over. I have never seen the water so high before. I couldn't get a picture of any of the Locks, but I did get a picture of the canal from the truck stop. Ill try and figure out a way to send it to you!
Nice trick with bicycle tire 👍

glad to see your mast back up, it hurts my soul to see a sail boat without its mast

Really enjoyed the Erie Canal series. Appreciate all the detail, and seeing all the locks and tips along the way! Keep me coming!
Taking my time. Watching all your vids. I wish to sail the Caribbean one day.
Cool idea with the bicycle tube !

Great series. I'm ready for the next adventure.
Liked the series. I'd like to see a video on rig tuning.
Underneath the mast boot I put in Flex Tape. A self amalgamating tape and it has been sealed for 2 years and not a drop comes down outside the mast.
nice video Tim, interresting

This is great information. I was just wondering why you’d want to do the same thing again, when there’s so much out there to see?
☠️☠️happy Halloween ☠️☠️ you pirates.another great episode.
Wrap the bicycle tube and mast boot with aluminized HVAC duct tape; protects rubber from uv.
FYI Hop-o-Nose gives you free dockage for 1 day with a mast raise/lowering.
Sweet
Where did the Mast boot come from?

I would’ve liked to have seen you tune the mast.
Hey. I’ll make sure I film it next time
When was this filmed ? No way you where in this part of NY in late October in shorts and a T shirt.
jimmyjackass it was filmed last October
Why do you sail the pirate flag when you are on the canal?
👍
Why not step it yourself?
a ginpole/bridle system is sufficient for most boats up to 35ft
Erie canal may look great, but not in my bucket list, so the Great Loop is not for me. Fair winds.
