I just recently picked up the Musashi Brand 29" Tactical Wakizashi Sword Differential Harden 1060 Steel. And like you, I bought it for home defense, also to take hiking/camping as a tool to defend myself. Its a great sword. I also have a Katana, and a Gustave Messer. Yeah, I'm a blade-a-holic :) Take care, and stay sharp, its going to get strange. I use what is called Shrink Fit Grip Tubing, which is meant to go on the handles of fishing poles. So they do not get slippery when wet. Very useful stuff.
Sugar Plum is beautiful! That kydex attachment you made is sick! Makes it look like much higher-end! Love the color scheme... reminds me of the Joker. As always, great review brother... been wondering about this one
Thanks man! Kult of Athena stopped talking to me after this one, but I thought it was a nice review. Maybe they weren't happy that I customized it? 🤷♂
@5 Minute Knives thats odd... but they should be thanking you. I'm betting they are making some sales off this. Regardless, great review and great customization work!
My home defense is a Junglas 2 and Rambo 2 combo . It slices , dices , and juices too lol . Got a mini one four mechanism if they get out of the juicer .
I keep a half dozen Cold Steel Assegai w/ 30" handle scattered around the house for similar reasons since all my mechanisms got lost in a house fire a few years ago (really did lose some). They're short, cheap, easy to hide in plain sight, come with a decent sheath and are wicked sharp. This might be a fun addition to the collection even though I already have many swords. I may have to start rationing my views of your channel though, the wife is starting to give me the stink eye when she hears me listening to knife vids. She has the absurd idea that a person can have enough blades. Ah, what the hell, she's gonna be mad at me about something anyhow, might as well order one.
@@npenick66 I have and have had teenagers living in my house. Always keep them locked up like you. Have electronic emergency safe in bedroom and two dogs to buy time to get to that safe.
Just a curiosity question as I am just now getting into swords but what are the reasons for the lanyard at the end of the handle? Like what's are the practical reasons to use it for?
This sword is mainly for clearing brush. The lanyard keeps it with you but also gives you more control over the handle since it's a bit heavy for one-hand use.
I also own the p10s. Shoots even flatter than the full size due to the double recoil spring and faster cyclic action of the slide. It's a sewing machine...
@@5MinuteKnives Agreed. I have the P10S, P10C and the P10SC (Compact frame with full sized slide) and the S shoots pretty flat, but the SC is my favorite. That being said, my P-07 is my EDC mechanism.
Probably not tbh. I just free handed with a carbid then used ceramic rods to finish the edge off. It just would be a pain to shoot and wouldn't get many views on this channel unfortunately. I didn't do anything fancy though...
Nice set up. Love the green and purple. Carbon fiber is so sexy. Keep on the journey of self improvement and living your best life 👑 💪 Can I rant real quick? Why aren’t there more makers making modern swords? Modern materials and full tang design? I see historically accurate replicas being used for cutting tests and I call BS that any sword in castle days was passed from one generation to the next. The edge deforming and blade bending and breaking and thin thin tangs (I get the need for specific balance) and rattley wooden leather wrapped handles…… those things are so fragile I’d be amazed if they made it through one single siege. I think I beat my record for a run on sentence.
Nice review and cool upgrade mods! Why were so concerned about drilling holes competely through the tang? Personal preference? Wouldnt that make it lighter, to drill holes all the way through the tang, or are you worried that it is sacrificing the tangs structure and stability? Definitely agree with the sticking to yourself and doing what you like to do thing, especially these days! 💪
Good question! That might have works too. I think the exit holes would have come out sloppy most likely and initially, I think I was trying to mod it without changing the looks too much for the review. whoops. I really enjoy hanging out with myself when I get the time. Nothing wrong with spending some time with your best friend doing whatever it is you want to do. 👍

Most home intruders do not carry guns so a sword or big knife is a good strategy for home defense. Most confrontations between homeowners and intruders are at close range so getting the drop on a guy surprising the intruder is very advantageous. You know your home better than he does and you can hide in the dark and spring to attack better. I do think it is smart to own a gun just in case. Just remember bullets do travel a long distance and can ricochet in unexpected ways. A 10 inch blade to the gut is a bullseye with no collateral damage.
@@bazc1378 No problemo bud. I got kind of lucky with how mine turned out. I actually just etched patterns into the handle to reduce even more weight two nights ago. Still tinkering with this baby... If you ever need a regular sheath for knife with under a 10' blade though, I'm your guy!
@@5MinuteKnivesI bought the katana with the hidden kozuka for about $220 with KOA sharpening job...it wasn't razor sharp but doable. Definitely worth the price and i'm definitely getting a wakizashi for my left hand for a proper Musashi build lol
within striking distance, I'm a big fan of a trained person using a blade and not getting tinnitus, giving away their position, losing their night vision, or endangering their family through walls. I also have carried a firearm everyday for over twenty years and am currently a patrolman. I always have a firearm on me but any chance I'd get to use a blade instead in a self defense situation, I'll take it for the reasons above. Plus, I'm really good with blades as well, so I have options.
I got sent one of these by mistake when I ordered another knife. It had so many burrs on the blade that I had to spend an hour removing them. It still wouldn't cut. I took it to a professional blade sharpener (not a mall person, a professional blade and tool sharpener). He cleaned up the edge better than I did, but could not put an edge on it. His words: "It's terrible steel" It's sitting behind my chair as a wallhanger. That's all it's good for. PLEASE DON'T RECOMMEND THIS TRASH TO FOLKS!!!
I love mine and it's a laser beam. Maybe you got a lemon? I appreciate your feedback but my experience has been the opposite. Also, why did you keep it if it wasn't what you ordered? You should have contacted customer care. It was prolly a defect with a bad heat treat that got mixed up in the shipping dept. Lesson learned.
That is too sad. that sounds like my first wakisashiform called slimline machete. It is springy in the blade but won't hold an edge (It rolls so badly that I must be crazy to keep it) the way I have used it is to put about a 35 edge on it and use it for chopping corn stalks at dirt level! I recently ordered the A.P.O.C. leaf bladed thing if I had seen this comment sooner I may not have But then god knows the world needs more dirt plows.

What kind of edge retention does the blade steel have?. I've read it's pretty tough steel, but what about the edge retention?.
You have to sharpen about every other time you wack a bunch of weeds. Sharpens pretty easily though. . .

Awesome mods. Would you consider making longer scales to extend the handle 2" or so?
