    The Maestro is also a very fine cellist. That wink of support was a welcome and most appreciated nod of support to me.

    I've got the cello solo for the Wimborne Orchestra's performance of this - thanks for showing me how it ought to be played!

      I'm sorry but the cello just misses the note far too often. This overture has fond memories of my youth, but the performance is so bad I can't listen to all of it. I must assume this is an amateur orchestra, and so allowances must be made. But compared to the many outstanding youth orchestras in Europe, this is decidedly amateur.

    The music always catches the ear whatever one is doing at the time. For me, this was really an entertaining experience. I'm glad I was able to view it. Thank you for making it available

    I have loved this overture for over 60 years. Thanks for posting this wonderful version of it! I especially enjoyed the cellist's solo! Does anyone know whether the total score has survived for this operetta?

    a classic overture--full of such fun and rollicking energy and lucious melody--should make a viewer's heels kick up after hearing--and also was a first introduction for many to classical music via cartoons. where is the heartland orchestra by the way? assume the midwest--I've heard of them before--bravo!

    Why can't I listen to 1:20 without singing "I've Been Working On The Railroad"?

  • @aroldfut

    Excellent performance, but the recording didn't do the orchestra justice. Microphone arrangement fail!

  • @1776adb
    @1776adb 5 років тому +1

    I think “I’ve been working on the railroad” was expropriated from that piece- just kidding. Sounds better on a band organ- it’s on Utube- look it up- Tom Gavioli organ version. Carl Frei 125 keyless organ.

    It is nicely performed, and I take no issue with the music. BUT--this is an orchestra, not a collection of mere individuals, and the videography consists almost entirely of close-ups (tight close-ups, at that) of individuals and small groups. There is not one shot of the whole ensemble. It's oppressive and claustrophobic--suited, perhaps, for children and amateurs but leaving the serious musician wanting. . . .

    this melody is mexican

    • @bryangl1
      @bryangl1 5 років тому +1

      First - which melody? there are several in the overture; and second, no way is any melody here Mexican. It may have been adopted in Mexico, but it's very much European in origin.
