Ouverture Dichter und Bauer (Poet and Pesant) (1846)
Cincinnati Pops conducted by Erich Kuenzel
Dichter und Bauer (Poet and Peasant) was in 1900, after composer Franz von Suppé's death, made into an operetta in 3 acts using music by him. It premiered, however, as incidental music by Suppé to a Karl Elmar [de] comedy of that name on 24 August 1846 at the Theater an der Wien, in Vienna.[1] Its overture is famous. In 1936, Gustav Quedenfeldt wrote a new libretto based on Suppé's composition version "C".
Mickey Mouse conducts an orchestra of barnyard animals in playing the overture of Dichter und Bauer in the 1930 short The Barnyard Concert.
Andy Panda also conducts an orchestra of animals in the playing the overture in the 1946 short The Poet & Peasant.
That entire opening solo cello section (and the waltz later on) is just so breathtakingly romantic. Wouldn’t have associated Von Suppe with such lyrical romanticism.
Bravo principal cellist! One of the best renditions I've ever heard.
I think the harp is some of the best harp accompaniment I've heard before too!
I usually think they play too softly in most recordings usually I prefer a more stronger in the harp since because of how the part isn't written they can't really outplay the cello
@@krysztof6917 Yes, very observant. Being a cellist, I was just blown away by his solo. It doesn't work without a competent harpist though. Fortunately, years ago, I had a good one too!
@@robertdavis4386 I am a harpist so my ear just naturally gravitates towards it 😂😂
One of those composers that virtually only exist on recordings and never get programmed.
But quite a long standing tradition of the finest ensembles recording his overtures.
We are playing it this week in Porto 🤗
Played this in middle school band. That ending was one exciting part for a tuba player; an sctual passage of melody, played loudly and quickly. Rather refreshing for someone who normally provides just the bass line beats in 90% of typical band music.
What a great composer for strings.
Let's say for violin 1 and Cello 😄
I also love his brass parts, particularly horn and trumpet.
F. Von Suppé was a particularly gifted composer and a nephew of the great Gaetano Donizetti. The other uncle Pasquale D. was the general director of the milit. bands of the ottoman sultan since 1825. Suppé was a contemporary with the Strauß family and wrote mainly viennese vaudeville-style operettas.
Cool to see the actual notation of this piece. And the sound of the cello is lovely!!!
Brilliant piece of music....what a pleasure to listen to❤
Thank you for the score.
En la elegancia clara de sus notas el sol madruga cada mañana y la vida reverdece mostrando lo mejor para nuestra causa, es genial .
This work appeared in many Hanna Barbara Cartoon series in the early days in the USA when I was a kid !
Indeed. And the cartoon heroes were improvising with items & objects for household purposes or found in the street!
We just played an arrangement of this piece in my high school wind ensemble. Probably one of the most difficult pieces I have played recently. Gotta love the original too.
sublime!!!
Oh my, the first bass drum hit is amazingly appropriate!
You mean the three soft ones in the introduction where it says "senza piatti"? I agree.
One of the best overture ever.
Thieving magpie.....beautiful
Great cello line in the beginning!!!!
This inspired that familiar railroad song.

Una obra maestra
Old, but gold.
I've known for a while that this piece's title is "Dichter und Bauer" in German but I only just now made the connection that the last name Bauer comes from that word 😂
OH I'VE BEEN WORKING ON THE RAILROAD ALL THE LIVE LONG DAY

For the live long day
WE FINNA DROP OUT OF THE HOOD WITH THIS ONE 🔥🔥🔥🔥

5:52 que hermosa melodía
Von Suppe really loves double fifths. haha
Just goes to show you how stupid that rule is. Even more true with parallel octaves.
Oh, great. Now I won't get to sleep tonight.
can you upload morning noon and night in vienna score, fast
Who is the cellist? great interpreter
I'm not sure but the harp is good too
What does the "in A. F. B." part of "Tympani" denote?
Ophicleide! 👍👍
It was replaced on the score by an "euphonium" or "Eufonico", an instrument used nowadays in brass bands. Ophíkeidon(or ophicleide) was used only for a few years in 19th century (1835-50) by composers such as Mendelssohn or Berlioz.
Greatest performance of all !!! Who is the conductor of the orchestra???
If you click on the tab "more" under the video you will see the info. Cincinnati Pops conducted by Erich Kuenzel
