Little Miss Sunshine’s writer, Michael Arndt was one of the biggest inspirations to this channel and to me as well. A while ago he made a video on great endings, where he talked about philosophical conflict and philosophical stakes. Imo still the best video on writing ever made.
Fax that was literally a masterpiece of a video
Look up Michael Arndt. He has a youtube channel and he posted the video on it a year ago. The video is older than that though. I believe that before then youtube copyright didn’t allow it.
Thank you for one more insightful video. Implementing the takeaways is much more fun : )
Brilliant breakdown Tyler!
I’m going to say Dwayne does represent the negative side of self expression. He hates everyone. He’s expressing himself by being negative to his family. Which is arguably a bad concept of self expression. Doing it out of unfounded hate.
I don't think so. Even if he's rude, he has the respect of all the family; he is free; he lived a good life on which he's proud; he dies on his own terms; and even feels morally superior to his son, when he practically says goodbye in the car. At the end of the film, everyone is being rude to the people in the contest, but that's positive, because they're now free. They're following his path.
I would think that Frank is the negative on the "Don't play status games". I think he WAS in the other side (background), but at the beggining of the story he IS now a loser that tried to kill himself (that even failed at that, as he said) and for the rest of the film is definitely not on the father's side. He represents what being a loser is. He isn't the Number 1 on his own subject; he lost his love interest; and even lost his home and his status. Basically everything that represented his life. Olive's father is always saying to Olive "don't listen to him".
I want to rewatch Little Miss Sunshine now while focusing on who represents the negative side of not playing social games. Another great video
More highlights pls!
The father was the negative one, not grandpa.
That's your personal opinion it isn't that black and white
Thank you, this was so informative :) Little miss sunshine is on of my favourite movies
