It's good that the company FORCES the workers to take a break and perform stretches; the nature of the job makes workers seem especially vulnerable to RSI (repetitive stress injury).
dude netflix is not like that anymore, they laid off all those people you see sitting ripping and inspecting, now they have automotive machines that automacially rips out the cd's inspects them and sort them all out. i work for netflix in santa ana and i';m a machine operator the new machines just came in 2 months ago so were still getting used to it, one machine averages up to 3100 cd's in one hour wicked sick huh
@Danz2003 I've been with Netflix for nearly 6 months now and for me Its really worth it. You can get up to 4 dvds out at a time if you choose that package. I use the 1 dvd out at a time though since I mainly watch Instant movies on my Xbox rather than on DVD. Occasionally I do rent DVD's. The DVD's take one day for them to ship and arrive to me but may differ from different areas.
@@StartupDivision my dude they've just been completely shutting it down. I'm pretty sure they are now below 1 million subscribers for the dvd service cause the internet is a thing
That is good, honest work. Wish there was more of it around and not less. Person who says he/she would kill himself before taking such a job should be ashamed.
@Danz2003 Are you in Canada? Is that why you can only use streaming? What do you mean by lower class movies, because I don't see that. I see old movies, new movies, all sorts of movies. From Julie and Julia to Benjamin Button to Funny Lady and tv shows, from The L Word to The Dick Van Dyke Show.
@ericblr I'm not one to defend price hikes, but: postage has gone up. So has energy costs. Further, Netflix reduced its prices several times since I've been a member, so this current hike still doesn't make it more expensive then when I first subscribed.
Why every good moving like, dancing with the devil, cadyshack, , sixteen candles, alien vs predator and alot more are not available to watch instantly. The commercial is false advertising saying "Alot of movies can be watch instantly over the net from the tv".
i agree and disagree. i have 20+ movies in my queue that are "very long wait" or "long wait" or "short wait". they are mostly new release, some have been there for months now, and still waiting
@hmcg020 half the streaming is in HD some 1080p some 720p. and if you prefer disc there are blu rays disc you can borrow too not just dvd. and i doubt blockbuster has over 100 thousand dvd for you to choose from a single store plus theres no late fees.
@GillisMusic I'm pretty sure they already have a machine sort the DVD's and then the stuffed packages, if you watch you can definitely see it sort the stuffed packages, as far as the actual movies go I don't know...
Okay.. I'm really surprised about the LACK of technology here. With the days of UPC codes, scanners and automated retrieval systems why don't they have a wall full of videos, a server, and an automated record retrieval system? The system would pay for itself in a few months!
@hmcg020 are you sure it's low quality stream?? I've around 16 Mbps download speed and I get pretty decent picture quality. What do you mean by low quality? is it pixelated like this one here on UA-cam right now? well, you gotta catch up with high speed Internet connection. I think that's how Netflix works, low speed connection, low quality, .vs high speed, high quality.
So, we have minimum wage workers checking DVD's. They are no doubt rated on how many DVD's they check per hour. So there is little incentive to be accurate. Problem is, scratched DVDs get through this system quite easily, and end up stuck or skipping in the customer's DVD player. So why isn't this automated? A machine could check the DVD (stamped with a machine-readable code) against the coded envelope. The same machine could also scan, with a laser, for scratches. Puts people out of work, tho
The last two discs I've received from NF were unwatchable, they were so scratched. Their back catalog seems to be wearing out, as more and more people are watching online instant movies. NF is saving a ton on inventory and shipping, but they are neglecting the stock that put them where they are today. Soon it will all be online and this becomes a moot point. But in the meantime, I'm going to avoid ordering older titles on DVD.
@entropy44 Because the shipment fees would be outrageous if they outsourced the packaging department. And it would cost a lot of initial capital to get a machinedoing this, I don't even know if it would be able to distinguish between the different titles or not.
Gotta do what you gotta do for your family. I'm out of work now and nobody is even given me a ring back. Looks as if I have to do 2 PT jobs to make up for 1 FT just to save the house and provide for my family. My wife just had surgery and shes been out of work for over a month now and I'm helping my stepson with going to and from school. Defiantly, bless these folks...as it's a job...and there is not that many jobs out there right now...
I like how they play silly carnival music for the part where they get up and stretch their muscles. Meanwhile, that's probably the smartest, most balanced thing in the whole video. It's little subliminal cues like that create a sedentary society.
@turboej1driver IMPOSSIBLE. How many days would it take to send all the DVD's to china, and then back, all within one day? This is one job that cannot be outsourced.
Man I'm dumb I didn't know people stuff the movies. I just thought they had machines that did it. Makes appreciate my netflix movies even more now. Thanks Netflix workers!
@Danz2003 Maybe the selection there is smaller than our selection because I don't have any trouble finding plenty of movies on disc or streaming. Of course, i am a total movie addict and will just about watch paint dry if it's in movie format!
@Danz2003 it's totally worth it!!! You can get from one movie to ten movies at a time depending on how much you want to pay. I currently get five at a time. There is no late fee/due date on the dvds and you can also instant stream to your computer or to your tv through several different devices, I use my Wii.
@turboej1driver Doubt it. Netflix cares about the speedy delivery for their customers. Outsourcing them would make it longer and more expensive to send out.
to all who think this job is easy ...go try to sit there and put dvds in a case and be fast about it and do it all day after awile your arms and hands would hurt and get tired ...netflix got movies coming in and going out around the clock. the people that work for netflix should get a little credit that keep your movies coming none stop..
great site netflix and i'm glad theres a pause button cos i need to stretch every hour or so. i love french thrillers and lots of foreign movies. thanks
This could easily be done by machines ... robotics/automation can be used to assemble almost an entire vehicle ... I'm sure stuffing envelopes isn't a problem
@ians1mom actually i can only use the streaming videos. From what ive seen though the movie list isnt very impressive on the streams because it only has movies that are lower class mostly
wassup guys i work at NETFLIX in santa ana CALIFORNIA the biggest hub out of all netflix hub in the US. Im a material handler! pass out those envelopes and keep my team busy ! its really easy n chill but the graveyard shift kills... =/
soon netflix will do away with the DVD service, as physical copy begings to fade away. I mean come on who really pays the additional $8 a month for DVD rentals?
Is it me or does Netflix only allow you to stream the worst movies on the site? All the good stuff you really want to see immediately, you have to put in queue and wait for it to be delivered to you. I HATE that. I think that is what's ultimately going to kill off Netflix.
God bless these people. But as far as the process that they don't control is concerned, I haven't received a single disk in that short of a time since NF "upgraded" their service and raised their prices. Before that, for three years (consistently) the delivery time was awesome. I'm beginning to believe the theorists who say that NF is purposefully slowing their deliveries (fewer requests per monthly bill) to recoup financial losses.
i have a netflix account and i had it about 5 months now and i like it very much ..i can mail out a dvd today look on my account tomorrow and see where they have received my dvd and already shipped out the next one on my list and the next day i have a dvd in my PO box ..they said one day delivery and so far in the 5 months i be with netflix that's what it has been ..so they do hold up to there word on one day delivery..and the movies i watch on streaming nextlix is also great ..good job NETFLIX
just two years later and they all would be unemployed lol
It's good that the company FORCES the workers to take a break and perform stretches; the nature of the job makes workers seem especially vulnerable to RSI (repetitive stress injury).
So sad that Netflix will discontinue this service, where will these workers go 😢
I hope they called the automation system they now have after Diana
my fingers hurt watching this

wow
Just now even knowing Netflix use to mail movies
"What I like about my job uhmmm everybody works as a team, you push yourself harder..." hahahah honey you work in a sweatshop
@mmunis You pick what movies you want to watch and the inventory to chose from is much larger than a video store.
Watching this video makes me appreciate Netflix more. Those people must be really tired by the end of the day.
Where are the robots?!
@@StartupDivision my dude they've just been completely shutting it down. I'm pretty sure they are now below 1 million subscribers for the dvd service cause the internet is a thing

the good old days.
UPH, MM scores, the mail sorter runing non stop SATs, and DDS, RR, Shipping.

Well, that explains why so many DVDs' arrive cracked!
I have not once got a cracked DVD
Oh this was 7 years ago
@meatwax not every movie is available for that you know.
Still use it but wish the library was better.
now it does but wireless is going to surpass cable and network tv in transfer. just wait.
@borboranon you could have hung up and called again, they have more than one center you know...
@codybe2cool But Amazon has an instant streaming service also... I don't know how that doesn't make sense...

Netflix should open netflix stores like blockbuster. With video games. Idk just an idea.
i thought it was all done by machine, wow. cool stuff
@RuFiOPx but thats even like red boxes. I think its some kind of media rental rights. It is dumb though. I agree.

I don't understand why people spent so much time and money on Netflix if Torrents have been around for 20 years.
Because that wasn’t common back then and it was easier to get viruses

It sucks that the trend is going toward streaming.
That really sucks...8 hrs of this shit would drive me insane.
