I visited Postojna in 2008. I was walking up and down outside the caves waiting for our group to gather and get in. I came to a black gate sealing a cave opening some distance away from the main entrance as a loud roar of gushing water was coming from inside. I thought it was a waterfall, but couldn't see anything. When the tour finished, we were led into a final room / gallery and I figured that was the one sealed by the black gate. That's where the noise was coming from. It turned out the river had cut a small gorge inside the cave, which was guarded by a rail. I approached the rail and looked down; the river must have been at its maximum flow. It was essentially whitewater rushing through that narrow passage, disappearing into the blackness of the underground, its thundering roar reverberating off the cave's walls. I thought anything or anyone falling into that would be gone forever. A frightening, yet fascinating sight. I remember vividly grasping the rail and slightly leaning over it to get a better look at where the water was going. As I did, all the lights went off. Just like that. My heart nearly stopped, but I somehow expected the lights would turn back on immediately. A few good seconds must have passed and I could hear people getting uneasy in the distance before the light came back. I've always wondered if it was an accidental power cut or something that's part of the tour to take visitors by surprise and give them a sense of what the cave environment must look like naturally. Either way, the feeling of being in complete darkness, separated from the group, leaning over that rail with that tumultuous force looming a few feet below, is something I will always remember. I also remember that back then Proteus anguinus could be seen swimming in a small open pool of water inside one of the richly decorated chambers. The poor creatures must have been terrified, as a lot of people were trying to touch them despite being told not to. It seems that the enclosed aquarium is a more recent addition. I hope to visit Postojna cave again some time soon.
Wow...this is the kind of place that seems too good to exist, like a fairy tale. The fact all this dates back so long, it must have been revolutionary back then, and still is.
@@nino96able Myheritage. However, there were family members who had accurate location and other records collected throughout the years made available on other genealogy websites which matched my records. Lucky me!
Izgubio nevinost s 13 godina?? I, posle govorimo kako je danasnja omladina losa. Sudeci po gramatici, bolje bi bilo da si malo vise bdio nad knjigom a manje drpao po hotelskim sobama.

Visited as child in 1977-amazing and can't wait to return again to SLOVENIA!

Just back from a holiday in beautiful Slovenia...saw the caves and castle..AMAZING! Go see it...
