- The French Army’s Chasseurs Alpins (‘Alpine Hunters’ in English) wear a distinctive piece of headgear: an oversized beret they call la tarte, or ‘the pie.’
In this piece, 1st Lieutenant Clement from the 27th Brigade Chasseurs Alpins unit explains the various uses of la tarte, from keeping your feet warm to protecting your eyes from the sun. Clement and his fellow mountain infantry soldiers deployed to Rena, Norway for Exercise Brilliant Jump 22, which tested the ability of the very high-readiness component of the NATO Response Force.
Following Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine, hundreds of French troops - including the Chasseurs Alpins - have been deployed to Romania to reinforce the Alliance’s east.

I love them because they don't compress your head like most hats do. Great choice!
another use is to protect your face from side winds (and snow) while uphill ski touring
Have you ever seen a baclava? Other military units use it and it is more practical in every aspects. Berets are only practical in a parade, lets be honest.
That's interesting. I've always seen it just as an ugly hat now I've found out that it's a multi tool which is awesome.

Yeah indeed ! if any di.head can play the VIP on YT, a defensive organization composed of 30 democratic (Turkey and Hungary are problematic) countries; 1 billion citizens, 3 million professional soldiers can have a YT channel , I believe.

You can put your feet inside to keep them warm. ..Yeah ok France we wear socks ..
You clearly never went skiing in very cold environment
You’ve clearly never spent a night in the snow on top of a mountain…
You clearly never used a sleeping bag properly. Plus, if you actually wore that under extreme conditions you'd lose your ears. Wear a beanie hat instead, keep that beret for the parades, as they quite probably do.
