    I'm 44, when I was a kid, we'd split up the two players we thought were best and then they'd take turns picking players, this made each team somewhat evenly matched and made playing fun because there was competition. As I got to be an older teen to young adult, it had changed to 'shooting for teams' and it started to load teams up more. In my mid 20's when I went back to the park to play, the teens and young adults had their own squad, and they would call next, their entire team that they brought, which was entirely loaded as to prevent any competition and to make sure they'd win. I feel this loading up of stars in the NBA to build super teams, which started with Bron, sort of reflects my personal experience playing park ball, haha. That it is cultural, not generational though, but I'm not sure what started it.

      The loading up of super teams in the NBA didn't start with LeBron. Jesus the Lakers and Celtics for years brought in stars or all stars

    • @DeeMan17
      @DeeMan17 9 місяців тому +2

      Lebron didn’t really start this, but it’s got a lot worse since the ‘decision’. Player power has got out of hand. Having said all that, the Laker’s and the Celtic’s have always cherry picked talent and small market teams can’t hold onto stars. The Spur’s are probably the only ones to do it well.

      The players have more agency to greater influence their careers, chances of winning, and playing in situations they favor. Why not take advantage? Why should the team or any employer have all the control?

    • @raheppe
      @raheppe 9 місяців тому

      @@jdankerdake It will change, because you ignore a lot of nuances. For example. Let's look at Harden. Demanded a trade, then another, then another. It is toxic. It ruins teams, it ruins the organization, they gave more to get than they got to give away when he forced that hand. It matters for salary cap too. But besides that, I think players should uphold their agreements. How can a team build if players can decide if they have to uphold their contract? What is the merit of a contract if it can be broken, or if you can't force it? How can a team plan for tomorrow? What has happened is chaos. Players already had the opportunity to do everything you stated, they just had to play out a contract, then they can play for anyone that they choose. When they choose poorly, they should not be able to then completely screw over the team that invested in them and shook their hand. It's f'ing dirty. If I shook your hand and then did not do that thing, you'd probably think I was a POS. How is this any different? Players can't be held to their word or their signed contract, wth? That's not a good thing.

    • @raheppe
      @raheppe 9 місяців тому +1

      @@jdankerdake To answer your other question, a team does not have full control. They can't make anyone sign a contract. You're being disingenuous with that part. The reason that they can draft a players rights, again, they need order, rules, and every team has agreed to those rules. A team didn't set that 'control' every team did together, and then the players, together, agreed to this through their union and through collective bargaining.

The media make shit up and KD said it was all bullshit. You are believing the Media's rubbish rather than listening to what players say. Steph loved KD. Westbrook damn sure didn't want him to leave and kyrie wanted to stay with KD but go somewhere else. Players all want KD because he is a good team player. Draymond is a piece of shit and he's proven that even more so, Westbrook is a horrible team mate and has proven that, so what was wrong with KD moving on from them? NOOO, I’m not saying KD isn’t a Elite Player/Scorer. He’s definitely One of the best players I’ve ever seen on the Court… but he IS NOT one of the Greatest Players Ever. I DO NOT GIVE A F*** about them rings wit the GSW. I was SOOOOO not impressed with those rings. That team already won a Championship (& been to 2). He didn’t have to Leader & he was teammates with 2 of the Greatest Shooters EVER (one who had already won 2MVPs)
    Since he departed from Golden State, he’s been looking helpless! Can’t get his team past the 2nd round, aligning himself wit the wrong teammates & hasn’t even sniffed the Finals. Meanwhile, Jokic & Giannis won rings since u left. Even Jimmy Butler was able to Will & Lead dis team to the Finals (twice)

    1) It's going to continue until teams start calling these guys' bluffs on their trade demands. If they make a public demand, send them home w/o pay until you can make the trade you want.
    2) Players don't have the 30-40 years coaches and executives could have as a career, so they're going to seek opportunities. We've made it 10000% about "RAAAAAAAAANGZ" the last twenty years or so, so we can't act surprised when a KD goes to an established team to get his
    3) Players are smarter than in the past- if you're trying to force a trade to a specific team, why wouldn't you do what you could to destroy your current team's leverage in order to make sure your next team keeps as much of their talent and pics as possible?! Look what happened to Melo, KD, Kawhi, etc after their trade? Imagine SGA on the Clippers and even Bridges on Phoenix? Melo watched half the players that made the Knicks decent fly past him to Denver.

    I already had my doubts about the Suns winning the West, much less getting to or even winning the Finals, mainly because of how they are currently constructed. Way too top-heavy. But the constant rumbling of Durant's temperamental, I-just-wanna-hoop nature coming out during every stop in his career affirms why I think the Suns aren't winning the West. Durant will certainly be a HOFer and ranked as one of the greatest players, but I think he will end up being quite overrated given his incredible physical gifts compared to his rather mediocre playoff record and history, especially outside his time with the Dubs.

    I dislike the group of Kyrie, Durant, Kawhi, Westbrook, and Harden. Malcontents, who won't play out their contracts and have no idea about basketball roster construction. Durant should thank his lucky stars that he went to Golden State who actually knew what they were doing and didn't let him meddle. That press conference in Brooklyn where Kyrie was talking about running the franchise "with the owner" was beyond laughable.

      To be fair its a two-way street. Some stars have the leverage to ask more out of their franchise that way. Before Giannis' contract was set to expire for 25-26 season, he had a talk with the Bucks FO about playoff aspirations and their commitment to fielding a roster that can get there. Bucks FO answered with the blockbuster Dame trade then Giannis followed suit signing a 3 year extension with a PO for 27-28. I think some of the successful prime players have seen bad FOs/owners keep around top 10~20 players just to make money. While they have the ability to compete still, they can be direct about being competitive with them or just ship them out and move on.

    • @gregbrown6104

      Russillo is talking about how restrictive the new CBA is. Teams over the second apron (starting next season) cannot trade away more money than they receive, even if their trading partner can absorb the salary. They cannot aggregate contracts in one trade, which hurts value matching. They cannot sign players bought out during the buyout market after the trade deadline. So adding those value pieces for a playoff run won't happen. There's more too.
      That "second apron" is basically so punitive that teams will either use it as a hard cap to depress spending, or teams will clear the second apron and be royally fucked a bit. And I think it'll only take one team to do it, then be in such a bad spot that it's a deterrent for the rest of the league.
      The upcoming deadline should look real different. Teams projected to be over the second apron next season bout to start giving players away.
