Today we explored a Russian submarine in Hamburg. It’s used as a museum you can visit the inside. It is unbelievable tight inside the U-boat 84 people could live on board for over three months. It’s not easy to move around in such a tiny space I could never go diving with them
I been following the GIV for some time now. And it seems like every video I bust into tears laughing that Mike knows everything, literally. Today I learned Mike speaks Russian fluently! 😂😂😂 I’m absolutely mind blown lol! You’re a certified legend Mike! Much love from Whittier, California.
I just came across Mike's channel and he really is a legend and his Russian sounds pretty flawless. Wow!
I don’t know which language that was, but as a russian I can say, that it wasn’t our language !
Sounds like some randomly sounds, trying to speak russian by only knowing the accent 😹
Hi Mike! That was very fascinating to see the inside of a submarine and NO I wouldn’t want to be one of the 84 people that were in that submarine!!🫣 Also your Mom is a trooper going through that whole sub it looks claustrophobic in there!😰Thank You for sharing Mike and as always please tell your Mom that I said hello! TSCHUESSING!!🤍🤍🤍
I love these videos! You show me things that I would not have seen otherwise!
One of the finest examples of WWII submarines is the German U-505 at the Museum of Natural History in Chicago. And my favorite submarine movie by far is "Das Boot", and then: "The Hunt for Red October". Absolutely fantastic video! Nyryat! Nyryat! Nyryat! 👊😎
Your mom never stops being adorable. ❤️ 😊 I think I'd go crazy under the water like that. That's terrifying, though also interesting. Thanks for bringing us!
Your videos are phenomenal. Who else would take us inside a submarine. You never cease to amaze. Thanks GIV
A great tour of this Russian Sub. Mike. I would find it claustrophobic and would feel a bit vulnerable to know that thousands of tons of pressure are pushing on the hull from all sides. As usual, another great vlog. Mom also looks very happy and well. Cheers to you both and great health.
Loved seeing this and seeing mom go through it all! How fun! Thanks for the content!
I just love going on adventures with you, you and momma stay safe🥰
Mommas basement is his refuge.
Hi GIV and Mom, my Dad Joe was a Submariner in the US Navy and his Boss was Jimmy Carter on one of the Sub's he was on both Boomers and fast attack Sub's along with his Sub mate's and Jimmy Carter back in the 50's he was also (my Dad) was mentioned in the book Around the world submerged he had been stationed in Germany for three years patrolling the Rhine River, stationed pretty much everywhere in Europe and Asia except Russia (No US military bases there) Good video GIV 👍🏻😊👍🏻❤️
A few years ago, I got to sleep overnight in an ww2 sub in San Fransisco (US unit) with a Boy Scout troop, it was cool!!!.....never felt creepy!!!........This one is interesting also!!!....Thanks for the tour!
Is that the one at Fisherman's Wharf? My husband and I saw it, no one else was in line, and it was so incredible! They had little speakers you could rent and as you walked through the boat you could listen to the actual submariners who were on it during WWII. It was thrilling and very moving. at once! I am such a nerd I guess, but that was one of my favorite tourist/historical I've ever visited!
@@PowPowSunshine100 Yes!
This was amazing Mike, I love watching your tours of sites and of history. Keep them coming!!😊
Oh my gosh! So spooky and eerie, but so interesting! Thank you so much for sharing this! I wonder how many people have had panic attacks touring that thing. That radar sound is so haunting.
Thanks GIV!!! I always wanted to see inside one of those U boats...You & Your Mom Are AWESOME!!!🌹🌺🏵🌻🌼🌷..... Lovely Flowers for your mom!
I have mad respect for my youngest son for doing 5yrs and 3 reserves on the SS 777 in Pearl. He has since retired and continues his career at EB in Groton Conn. He's a good boy!!! Oh yes he is also Mike.
Im sure u r a good dad 💖🦾
I worked as a carpenter 32 years for electric boat. Retired a few years back. Wish your son all the best .
@@mr.tibs1334 thanks
Mad respect to you, Mike's father

Submarine are my favorite to look at, they are huge massive. Thanks Mike and your mother for sharing.stay safe you two.🙂👍📸
Thanks for the tour, went through the Russian Submarine at Long Beach, CA in 2007 and see it has been closed since 2015.. The Miniature Museum was spectacular !!
Didnt know there was a Russian submarine in Long Beach in 2007. I know about the USS Iowa , interesting there was a Russian submarine next to Queen Mary.🚢⛴️⛵
Wow one Amazing Tour....Thank you 🇩🇪 in Venice.
84 people in that tiny sub! I could stand that for maybe a day. Great video GIV. Hi Mom! Those bunks looked pretty short.
Mike brilliant video enjoyed interesting
Mike thank you for another great video no I would not want to be in there with 84 people matter fact I would never want to be in there your mom is such a sweetheart I love her smile you are a beautiful soul yourself God bless you both
Mama!!!! God bless you both always!!!🙏❤️ My favorite part was Mama going through the circle!
Thank you Mike for the sub tour.😀😀😀😀
Been to this place. It has the unfreidliest, surliest receptionist in the world. Great vid btw!
Happy Valentine's Day to you GIV. Much love from all your fans!
Your mother is so healthy, I'm very happy to see that.
Awesome tour Mike..You and your lovely mom are always a pleasure to see.
That was really interesting! But I would not like to be on one for long, or have to walk down those stairs. Your mum always looks so happy with you😃
I’ve been on an American submarine in Baltimore as well as a German one at the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry….that one was SO claustrophobic! Interesting to see a Russian one. Great video, thanks!
My Father served in the US Submarine Service 1943-46 in the Pacific and was the Radio Operator - have original morse code key and actual letterhead from the sub as well as my fathers sub jacket as his sub along with 11 others escorted the Battleship Missouri BB63 into Tokyo Bay for the Surrender of the Japanese in 1945. Been on a number of active duty subs in numerous naval bases growing up as well as in Chicago, Pearl Harbor and elsewhere.
My school used to take trips to the Museum of Science and Industry to see the captured UBoat. you don't realize until you are inside how small and claustrophobic it must have been and the ever present worry of a missile blowing you out of the water. It's interesting that all the German U-boats are yellow.
Hi 👋🏻 Mom, How are you? How cool is that bro 😎👍🏻💪🏻👏🏻 Thanks ☺️Mike what you’re doing spending time with Mom is absolutely priceless and heartwarming to see.
You would make a terrific tour guide, so relaxing to listen to.
Fascinating GIV
TY 🦾🦾🦾
Momma is a trooper 🫂💐
As always Mike, you rock
Another very interesting video. I had to remind myself to take deep breaths just watching. I’m a pilot. I like to be in the air, not underwater. I could never be a submariner. Thank you for taking us along.
I couldn't be on one of those things under water for a weekend, besides 6months to a year!! My nephew got portion of his Dr's medical degree in the AirForce. His payback was 2 years on one of those things as the Doctor for the service men and women. I've never really asked him about what it was really like icing on one! I will make that a priority next time I see him!! Thanks for the tour!! I'm going to miss your Mom when you go back to the States!! She is so pretty in all your settings over there!! Tell her HI from me!! 🤗♥️🙏🏼
Great video! We visited Hamburg and saw this sub but didn’t get a chance to go inside. I’d love to see you visit the German U995 in Kiel which we did go in, it was a great example of one
Great vid Mike super interesting ❤️🇳🇿🇳🇿🙏
I don't think I could have endured that tour. I would have exited immediately.
you are a positive person, i also wish i was able to see the world in such a positive way
I thought this was neat to see. Your Mom amazes me! just love her! No place for a clastophobic.
This video was totally awesome. Thank you and your gorgeous Mommy for this. You are SO tall to go through. I love your videos and the contents. Awesome.
Thanks for the tour man 👍
Schleifringläufermotor 8:43 is wound-rotor motor, also known as slip ring induction motor. Interesting U-Boot tour GiV 🙏🏽
I met a guy who was in the US navy and submarine veteran, He said they go out for 85 days without surfacing. I asked if guys don't go crazy, he said not often, they are pretty well vetted before going on a sub. Another great video from German In Venice, or German in Hamburg
Nice video GIV !...my favorite German 😊
I totally love this, and for all the guys that rode those during war, I praise them! There’s no way with me hating tight quarters could stand it. Just imagine that deep under the ocean!😮😬 And yes the ladies to these days ! ☺️😉
@7:14 I thought the U-Boat hit something. Thanks GiV.
Thank you german! Very cool stuff!! I could have swore that sub was from the 50s!!! Could you imagine taking a dump in such small space!!!
Let me out! Can’t breathe! Fascinating
Fantastic tour, thank you GIV! I have been through a few WW2 era subs and they are incredibly small. I can barely make it through the doors. 85 guys on the boat at once? Not to mention all the food, stores, etc. You must barely be able to move at all.
I've been through the U-boat in Long Beach, quite the experience! Although I can't imagine living in one!
I have new respect for Navy and Sub workers, holy cow!
Thank you ! Liberty Call Liberty Call
🇫🇷🇩🇪Mike my daughter will go to Venice beach in summer i told her to say hello to you as i did last september. 👍
Both fascinating and scary Mike!🥶😵💫
Wow thank u so much better than the one at the Queen Mary Long Beach though 💯👍
Hi, this is really cool, hope you and mom have a good day
The Thirty Fathom Grave Twighlight Zone episode and One Thousand Leagues under the Sea comes to mind. I wouldn't want to be in one of those vessels. Quarters are too close for comfort. It looks like a fascinating tour of history. Thanks GIV! 🌏🌎🌍
I loved Hamburg with your mom, the tiny miniatures were amazing in detail, WOW! Let us know way ahead of time when you travel to Las Vegas, I don't live in Vegas anymore, but I'm still in Nevada and would come out, my mom's home is in Gerolzfofen Germany, it's still in the family and is over 500 years old, the town was built in 1100 AD by King Auther III (I think if my history is accurate). 👍
Mike GIV That was Very INTERESTING Thank You for sharing. Mike by the way How is your Mom?
Wow I bet you could almost feel the energy at this place
WOW Mike.... awesome!!!!
I'm getting claustrophobic just watching you walk
Very cool 😎
Really cool
Great Mike🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣, however, thanks for the video I had never seen a submarine apart from the movies, I would not be able to stay in there I would miss the air. Say hello to Mom🌷💕
Fantastic, thanks Mike. Could never work in one of them tubes, I'd soon go mental.
If you ever come to Chicago there is a German U-505 Boat (submarine) at the Museum of Science & Industry. It’s from WWII.
Great tour. I toured a submarine, a destroyer and an aircraft carrier. All looked so cramped for quarters, but the submarine was the worst, especially because you had no deck to walk out on to get fresh air.
Awesome video thanks I enjoyed watching
Very interesting! Reminds me of Das Boot. What a movie.
Love The video.. like Always
G.I.V. And I had a friend of mine
Subscribe yesterday after watching the tiny mini sculptures... Video..
Wow, very claustrophobic, yikesssssssssssssssssssssss lol
Thanks so much for taking us around!!!
Good to see u and your mom!!!
Thanks for sharing I love this kinda video and I so glad your mom is doing great 👋👋
It was awesome. Machines rock.
German, English, Italian and now, Russian! How many languages do you speak? That’s impressive! How’s Gogo?
He doesn't speak Russian
I dont think that was real russian
Thanks for the great tour of this old Soviet Era submarine. I was guessing it was from the 1970s and I was right because you read 1976. A true antique.
Omg GIV I could not be in that submarine, I was clostaphobic just watching your video, couldn't imagine sleeping on it,,very informative
I already want out of there and I'm not even there. I couldn't do it either. Take a special person to do that job.
Wow great video, made me feel like I was right there, although my claustophobia would never alow me! Hi mom, looking good!
Oh my....
VERY SCARY..
THX MIKE& MOM..👍😃
Very interesting. I would love to tour German and Russian submarines in real life. The Russian submarine were about the same size as American submarines, small inside during WWII. This was an outstanding tour of the u-boat. The question still remains why is it in Germany? Very interesting video GIV. Take care.
Russia needed money in 2002 and German investors were willing to buy it for 1 million €. Under some conditions, like Russia dismantled weapons and some other secrets.
@@cubachris3812 OK that makes perfect sense. Thanks!
@@cubachris3812 You must be kidding. 1 million EU is not a lot of money for a Gazprom country.
@@napoleonbonaparte4396 Sure, even if Russia had economic struggle in late 90s, early 00s, 1 million € is not much for a country.
But see it from another perspective. The submarine was 26 years old in 2002 and was not used anymore. So if some investor offered them 1 million € and also takes over the costs for the transport that was a good deal for Russia.
And in its new role as museum submarine for the past > 20 years it turned out a good deal for the investor, too.
@@cubachris3812 I found out about this submarine over the internet. The submarine was decommissioned since it was not in service for a long time. This makes sense rather than saying stupid thing without any research that Russia needed money and sold it for 1 million Euro. Here is the transcript: "The submarine U-434 came from the Krasnoye Sormovo submarine shipyard in Nizhny Novgorod and was built in 1976 in just eight months. It was placed in the service of the Soviet Northern Fleet and remained in service until April 2002. Because of the long period in which the vessel was inactive and the extensive modifications made when B-515 became a museum ship, all major systems such as engine and hydraulics were deactivated."
Really cool vid about that Russian submarine. Talk about some real close quarters, i can only imagine how those 84 people felt being crammed in there like inside a sardine can. Thanks for the video.
ALOHA MIKE what an awesome emasing video you did. I think when you visited Hawaii pearl Harbour you most likely stepped on to the USS BOWFIN submarine with your Mom. I visited the same submarine with my sons . We were glad that real WW2 VETERANS explained the history of does submarines to us. Also the short boat trip to the Arizona Memorial was very emotional. Mahalo GiV Glück auf Dein NR 1Fan von Kona
Hi Mike. Thanks for sharing last year i visited Wilhelmshafen where I saw a War Vessel. I was in a submarine in Cherbourg, the Redloutable.
I couldn't do it be in a sub I get anxiety just thinking about it 😂
Wow an awesome look at a Russian U boat. Really cool to see. Is it free to see or is there a cost.
I'm still watching this interesting video. Hi Mom...How's Gogo?
Can't help but wonder how you came to have conversational skills in Russian. Though I've had an interest in that language for years to go along with an interest in the Russian Lit, I've had little luck in making headway with learning the language. Curious here how you picked up your skill with it. Hi, to your Mom. Stay safe and be well GiV.
"Underwater for a couple days?" Try a couple of months!
Thanks for the tour, GIV!
I heard they have to come up every three days
@@germaninvenice Probably more often than that if it's a diesel-powered sub. I assumed it was nuclear. Didn't see the engine in your video.
Still, "coming up" just meant running above the waves, very rough in a sub. They'd recharge the batteries and then submerge again. Up & down like that for a three-month deployment? Not for me!
Except a quarter-hour watching the GIV tour it is about right!
Your mom’s smile is contagious and lovely!
At least superficially, the tech looks closer to WWII than what I'd expect from the 1970s ... I suspect that in actual fact some of the systems had been computerised / digitised ... but this thing looks like a relic from a way earlier time with all of those analogue readouts and steam gauges! Bonkers that the first Typhoon entered service only a few years later.
This is so cool…and weird that a Russian sub is Hamburg, Germany!
I’m glad it was you in there and not me, I’m way too claustrophobic 😂
Thank you sharing the Russian submarines hamburger Germany 🇩🇪 so cool well done 😎👍
Mike, I,m already gittin claustrophobic just watchin you goin thru that damn underwater coffin!! Not fa me ole Boy, Not fa me!!! Too tight!!!! lolo. Headache central down there!!!!
I was sick for a time while you were in Germany, too sick to even pay attention to watching videos.. So I'm catching up on GIV !!
Interesting! My destroyer’s (USS Hollister DD-788) job was either to sink this submarine or to place our ship between the torpedo and the aircraft carrier. Fortunately the evil empire dissolved before a war occurred.
PS - GiV, surprised you got through the submarine without hitting the overhead!
Hey Shipmate USS John King DDG-3
Destroyers and their crews are expendable.
