This guy does the best job documenting a trail. Other videos by other photographers spend too much time in selfies, showing the narrator's face, when what we want to see is the trail.

I lived in the D.C. area for over 30 years, 10 years removed. I rode that path almost every day, rain or shine. Before moving to Alexandria I lived in D.C. around Mount Pleasant and would ride my bike down to the Rock Creek Park by Zoo's east gate and ride in a southward direction, cross over Memorial Bridge and get on the Mount Vernon Trail. Then I moved to Alexandria and I would start at the Haven Park and do a loop. I miss those rides. Beautiful trail. I rode about all of the bike trails in the area and going into Maryland up to Frederick and in Virginia, we'll into Loudon County. Lotta miles, lotta fun. Great video. Could feel the breeze from the river and rumbling from the wood bridges.
Thanks you for watching. I am glad I was able to bring back fond memories. Please subscribe to my channel for other biking adventures. I plan to upload new trips in the next few days and thanks again for watching.
@@letsgoseeit457 I love the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. I got there at 17, back in 1980. My father lived right off 16th Street, Spring Place street. As you are traveling north on 16 the first bridge you come across, is an overpass for Rock Creek Park. So my street was right before the bridge. So it was automatic almost for me to discover the Rock Creek Park trail since I love jogging and biking. I was hooked since where I'm from originally we don't have anything like those trails where no motorized vehicles were allowed, except for a few stretches but never had any problem with them. Love and miss the parks. A beautiful city and its surroundings indeed.
I used to ride that trail at least a couple times a month when I lived in DC. That was 20 years ago. I would always start at Gravelly Point. One of those times I was going pretty fast down a hill and came to a wooden bridge that was a little wet. I took a hard spill down on that bridge. Stained my shorts I was wearing. I always hated that hill at the end of the trail, but it was fun going back down it! Even though it's been 20 years, I recognized a lot of it still. Thanks for the video.
Hi and thanks for watching my video and taking the time to leave a comment. This trail is wonderful. I hope you get an opportunity to do it again soon. haha. Used to run this trail in reverse all the time. I note you didn't talk about how large/steep that hill is at the end. Getting up that thing on a bike must be brutal!
Yes, that hill at the end is a beast. If you ever get a chance to go back on the trail, let me know what you think. Thank you for watching and for taking the time to leave a comment.

Did this trail a few months back, rode from Vienna Va to MV and back. The climb at the end was not bad at all, and neither were the tree roots that someone had mentioned to me prior to the ride . A nice scenic trail for sure especially since l recently just moved to this coast. Get out and do this ride you won't be disappointed, oh and take a lock with you if you are thinking about exploring the Mount Vernon grounds . They won't let you in pushing around your bike...ask me how l know 😢 There are places to lock your bike , you just have to bring a lock! Did go back a few months later to see MV in a car and it was well worth it.
This is one of the best trails that I’ve been for Bicon and I simply love the scenic and iconic could use it provides. Thank you for taking the time to the detailed comment. I appreciate your viewership and your support.
Hi and thanks for watching. oOne year I parked in a parking lot and biked over to the mall area to catch the fireworks. It was absolutely great. If you decide to watch the fireworks from the trail please let me know how it goes. Normally there lots of cars that are parked along the roadway during the Fourth of July. Thanks again for watching and I appreciate your support.
I used to ride this trail from Alexandria to DC for my commute when I was a messenger. I see you edited out the sketchy section thru Reagan. You can smell and FEEL jet exhaust thru that area. Kinda nasty and loud but most of this trail is excellent.
This is super helpful! I live in the DC area and run on this trail a few times a week. I've never been on the portion south of Old Town, primarily because I get confused about where the trail cuts off and starts again in that urban area haha. This video helps me see where I should go if I make it down that way.

Thanks for watching. I live in the area so I don't frequent area hotels. However, I would say that for this path your best bet is to stay in Reston Virginia. Reston is next to the nation's capital, it has metro access, and lower rates. Reston will give you access to this trail and the national mall. That's what I would do and thanks again for watching.
I would recommend October The crisp air of fall, temperatures are pleasant, and mostly blue cloudless skies. The changing color of the tree's foliage is also a plus. My favorite time of the year, you get a break from the mugginess and is not too hot not too cold, just perfect for a nice bike ride. Enjoy your visit.
great video! you highlight what is best about this trail. unfortunately the trail SURFACE is an embarrassing piece of shit. sorry, it just is. the NPS has NO plans to repave it. they whine about having no money but repave car roads all year long. the NPS will not respond to emails or phone calls about the condition pf the trail-- they are their own fiefdom. and the NPS is antibike: there is no bike specific infrastructure in the DC region -- plenty of *multi-use trails* but no dedicated bicycle infrastructure. amazing but true. the DC Mall area is filled with cars, and the views are blocked by buses. i have friends from europe who are astounded that the interior of the Mall is not car free -- especially since it is bordered on 2 sides with 8 lane roads!!! oh well, the usa was a good idea, too bad it didnt pan out. this bike trail is symbolic of the nation as a whole...
