Best Panoramic Views of Istanbul from Galata Tower + Strolling Down Istiklal Street | TURKEY

  • For incredible 360 panoramic views of Istanbul, there can be no better spot than up in Galata Tower. It does get a little crowded at the top but it's absolutely worth it for the amazing views. If you don't like walking up steps, take the elevator then walk back down the stairs to check out each floor.
As it is a very touristy area around Galata Tower, cafes and restaurants are crowded too and tend to be pricier but the rustic cafe we ate at had great food and was in a nice quieter spot when we visited.
    Privato Cafe
    Address: Şahkulu, Tımarcı Sk. No:3, 34421 Beyoğlu/İstanbul
İstiklal street is an extremely popular and busy street in Istanbul. You'll find tons of shops and eateries there but also some traces of historic passages and buildings. It's located next to Taksim square and there's a nostalgic-looking tram that runs through the length of the Istiklal Street.

When it comes to natural scenery, N.Z can go toe to toe with any country in the world. But being such a young country, we lack a little when it comes to old buildings, which Europe has in abundance.

It pays to get to the Galata Tower early otherwise you end up with a 3 hour queue like we did. It was still worth it and got some absolutely spectacular sunset photos. The public transport in Istanbul is efficient, clean and safe. But moussaka in Turkey! Really Peter! The Greek mafia will be after you 🤣 Miss the food big time like menemen for breakfast, gozleme or pide for a lunch on the run and if you get a chance to have the full Turkish breakfast take it. But allow an hour or more and you won’t need lunch.

Another awesome video Yen and Peter :). I am pleased you are enjoying your time there, If your like me, which I know you are, it is the history of a region which is wonderful, Soak it up and remember. Downside, you will find the days sadly will pass so quickly now your there... You mentioned the cobblestones..... They grate on the mind when driving over then not just there but most cities in Europe have cobblestones.... The other issue is especially for you Yen be very careful if your in anything like a high heel.... Cobblestones look good, maybe and true, they were one of the earliest forms of road surfaces ..... But when wet, they can get extremely slippery. Have lots of fun, enjoy your time but most importantly keep safe. Which is applicable to any city in any country :)

In 1934, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk wrote the following letter to the mothers of Anzac soldiers buried in Turkey:
“Heroes who shed their blood on the soil of this country.
Here you are on the soil of a friendly homeland. Sleep peacefully and peacefully.
You are side by side with Mehmetçik (general name of Turkish soldiers).
Mothers who send their sons from far away lands.
Hear your tears, your children are in our bosom, they are at peace.
    And they will sleep peacefully.
After they gave their lives on this land, they are now our children.”

I recommend you to visit Ankara Anıtkabir, Mustafa Kemal's tomb, Anzac Cove and cemetery.
"A nation that does not know its history is doomed to perish." With respect to Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his brothers in arms...

Considering NZ is only 200 years old it hard to comprehend buildings that are so old. I’d love to go to places like that, I think Greece would be awesome so much history

This is so true! We were blown away with what we saw on our China trip a few years ago and now blown away with istanbul... it's a surreal feeling going somewhere so different like NZ to Istanbul.

Use "ch" for Ç and "sh" for Ş. Then you are good in Turkish.

@@PeterandYen Turkish is very hard for English speakers. Because everything is at opposite side of sentence. Thats why when I tried to learn English in school, I struggled.

When I was in Istanbul 20 years ago, it was filthy and public transport was dangerous for tourists.
Seems like it has changed enormously!
It boggles the mind that over 15 million people live there - 3,5 times New Zealand, all in one city.

Wow really, that's such a massive difference from when you went then. Public transport is super safe there now. We got the subway in the evening as well as the bus and all good.

Again, a great vlog! I can really tell how special it is for both of you to be in Europe for the first time! For me as well, the history of the US does not compare with the long history of Europe!
