She put the bonnet on the wrong way intentionally, so when he came over to correct her, he would see how the green brought out her eye color. Flirtatious and crafty, lol.
I think it's sad that this film is now wanted to be banned by some people off of streaming services. I guess you can still buy the film if you want to. What people don't bring up us that a black actress won an Oscar for this film. Now, people will say well she was playing a slave or a maid so it doesn't count. I just think our culture has gotten too involved in banning whatever you don't agree with or think is racist in some way.
James Amick I think it’s a story of its time, shouldn’t be banned. It should show what times were like, no matter how wrong certain aspects were. We shouldn’t erase history
@@ashleyonix4622 It doesn't really show what the times were like--it's much more of a romanticized version that gives an overly-sympathetic portrayal of the pre-Civil War South. However, I still think it's valuable, for understanding how certain ideals shaped a culture that relied on slavery in order to see itself as more glamorous and sophisticated than its neighbors. To me it's a mirror for a present-day US society that relies on slave labor in other countries to tick. It's also valuable for its absolutely iconic performances, music, and costume work.
“You’re a conceited, black hearted varmint, Rhett Butler - I don’t know why I let you come and see me.” The way she delivered that line at 2:01 was perfection!
Rhett said he has a thing for lost causes when it's absolutely lost, and Scarlett has a habit of never giving up on something she put her mind to :-p But the book explains it pretty clearly - Rhett just got tired of long term abuse
Ashley got out of that relationship but lost the good Melanie so Rhett was the winner of the whole sorry saga I am team yes mamma the maid had more sense than scarlett😍
well, it does say in the script "as the speech progresses, we see and hear her strength return--her voice accelerates in power and volume and we must believe completely that what Scarlett O'Hara wants to do, she can do." HAHA but tbh, I don't know how Scarlett can get Rhett back. Rhett loves her but he's also very tired of her bs.
Gable owned the screen in the 1930's. I don't remember who said it, but a male film historian, in comparing Gable on screen to other leading men of the era, put it this way: "When some men come into the frame, you know they've got balls. When Gable makes an entrance you hear them clank together." This scene with the bonnet shows why.
These play against each other. They fitted soo good together What a chemistry...and all only fake.. The acting between them is just amazing true natural

"... he wants to possess her body and soul..." I think a man like that would be calles toxic in these days. Besides, he gives her stuff because he wants to bang her. There`s nothing romantic in that.

Love Max Steiner cuing the "dark"-sounding drumroll when Rhett says "Gettysburg". It conveys the weight of that battle--the darkness of it, for both sides.
especially considering that Gettysburg was the turning of the tide. The Confederacy probably would've won had it not been for the disastrous turn out at Gettysburg.
+janeyrevanescence12 correction, they would have won if General Lee hadn't underestimate the Union. Lee actually said that it was his fault that the Confederacy lost the war.
The only spoiler is that's something of an anachronism. Someone in Atlanta in July 1863 couldn't have possibly known the Battle of Gettysburg was in progress. The Confederate government in Richmond didn't even know the battle had been fought until several days after Lee retreated from Pennsylvania.
I recall reading this scene in the book. In the book I was shocked at how much the bonnet cost , even by todays standard. Scarlett initially offers to pay for it but when Rhett tells her the price she tries to work out a deal to pay it in installments. If I recall correctly it was more than $300.
I know Rhett is a very wealthy man but he probably lied about the price so she wouldn't have a chance to pay him back at all. Anyway...he had lied to her a lot of times in the book.
I`m not so sure about that. I think, Rhett realises at the end of the film, that Ashley have won after all. He never could make Scarlett to love him and even if she does, it doesn`t matter anymore because his beloved daughter is now gone and he has now a big cuckold reputation. At the end of the film we can see that Rhett finally undestood what Ashley always have: that Scarlet wasn`t a wife material. And now that Melanie is gone, in his mind, is only matter of time that Ashley and Scarlet go to bed, that`s why he wants to end things in an appropriately way giving her the divorce.
She liked Rhett for giving her gifts and basically having all these back-and-forth flirtation. Scarlett had always been flirtatious toward men. It didn't negate her crush/obsession on Ashley though.
Winning hearts takes time especially ones that have been broken. He was insulting and impatient with her and she should have chosen someone else because when her heart finally let go he stomped on it.
