    Here`s a topic for you. How to differentiate the mapturtle species, especially Gr. ouchitiensis, Gr, pseduogeografica and Gr. pseduogeografica kohni. They are still confusing me.

    • @thornyturtleranch4u
      @thornyturtleranch4u 4 роки тому +2

      You'll get un-confused if you look at a couple dozen. Go to Flickr and look at photos. Keep in mind sometimes someone will have one photo misidentified. Kohnii always has a narrow bar crescent and a round pupil without a bar through it. Ouachitensis normally has some yellow and a yellow round spot and never a crescent. Ouachitensis, normally yellow on the head, olive tan on the shell. Pseudogeographica has a distinct look all together, much like a geographical, usually a lower shell, more green like a geographical but has that green or light yellow usually a thin crescent. But at different junctions they look all funny and mixed up. You'll become an expert if you are interested. I remember standing over Jeff Lovich shoulder in seattle in 1997, he had no clue who I was and he was flipping pages of the pulchra group and identifying them for someone. And I was calling them out before he was. He was annoyed which was fine by me but he still never asked me for my name. Map turtles are my favorite group of animals on the planet. As i dont consider my favorite a full group, AST. If I could live in a world with only one or the other it would be AST. But those darn map turtles are precious.

    • @ML.80
      @ML.80 4 роки тому

      @@thornyturtleranch4u Do both Ouchitensis and Pseudogeografica have a bar in their eye? I had 2 that was sold to me as False maps, but they had bars going through their pupills? So i thought they were Ouchita maps instead. Or do they both have this bar? Or is it as I suspect that on these farms that they are bred they don`t really know what they have and perhaps let the two species crossbreed?

    • @thornyturtleranch4u
      @thornyturtleranch4u 4 роки тому +1

      @@ML.80 if it came from a farm, yes maybe cross breeding. Both usually have a bar. Usually only kohni have the round pupil. Again, Flickr photos can get you dialed in. There arent a ton of pseudogeographica photos out there, they are pretty distinct. I would say in shape, a pseudogeographica looks more like a geographical in the shell and the shape of the head or even closer in pattern and color though they're plent different like as different as a ford is from a chevy or a tiger to lion. Have fun with it. Map turtles are gorgeous and exciting. Edited to say geographical with the "l" is a dang auto correct error.

    It's better to go shirtless into deep water to avoid snagging.

    • @GregsTurtleHaven
      @GregsTurtleHaven  4 роки тому

      I’d do shirtless if I didn’t burn like a Virginia ham. I was actually getting hung up on the GoPro headcount, not used to it
