- Just before the rains came, Adine joined the carers in the bush and captured some insights on camera to share with you. Carer Joshua gives us a look into Lundi's background, and we join carer Josiya too, to find out about his journey to joining our herd. Take a trip down memory lane with us...
Thank you, Adine, for interviewing the wonderful carers for us. What great folks they are!
@@suzanneflowers2230 They certainly are!! 🫶🙏🙏✨️
So interesting to know about their coming together and finally being now so happy and protected. Thanks very much
We appreciate Joshua and Josiya generously sharing their stories, and admire them and their great work. They deserve all good things.
Sebakwe coming through, and Fishan is such a trooper.
Fishan's one of my heroes.❤
Actually, every elephant in the herd is, too, but he's survived with such kindness and aplomb... like a certain little pink one we know.
💓🌍🌿🐘🐑🐕🎀
@mortalclown3812 Adore Fish! Well, Love them all!
Merry Christmas!! 🐘🧡🐘🎄🎁✨️🌟🙏
@@mortalclown3812 I love them all, but Fishan is special!
So heartwarming to hear the stories of and from the carers. And so heartearming to see and get to know and know these ellies are safe and together and cared for. Love all around.
Thank you for immersing us in the herd. ✨ And thank you for sharing a bit about the life of a carer. ❣️
Thank you for sharing with us this awesome story❤
Hello Joshua! Thank you for telling us about Lundi!! And hello Josiya!!
Fascinating history. Tremendous effort to save them.
Awesome 😊 let's have way more of these talks ❤
Oh how exciting to hear the carers talk about their backgrounds! I so enjoy seeing all the elephants walking ! Blessings to everyone! Have a safe & Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year! 🙏😊💕
Time seems to stand still when they're all walking together. I love the sounds at different times of day, the occasional voices calling out and - best of all - the beautiful rumbles coming from the herd.
@ Yes! I agree! I also love it when Adine says hello to the elephants. ❤️🙏😊
I love hearing the stories behind the carers. What a great bunch of people.
How sweet and charming both Joshua and Josiya are 💕 and how lovely to get to know them too. Everyone at HERD , Carers, Ellies, all the animals and people are so special ❤️💕🙏🏼. All I want to say is, I’m privileged to get to know them! Thank you Adine for letting us into your world … we learn a lot through these videos, how hard working, caring the staff are and how different yet how similar we all are in our caring for those in our care and those around us.
Thank you and God Bless 🙏🏼❤️🐘❤️❤️🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦

Thank you Joshua and Josiya for telling something of your story and all the dedication you give to working with the elephants. Loved watching the herd walking along.
Good-morning, Joshua! What a joy, happiness and lovely way to start the day! Even the tone of your voice is a very warm welcome to us all over the world! Dear Josiya and Family, what a blessing being part of the Herd...Darling Adine, Family is where your heart is...in my case is in Africa! Love from Portugal and my beloved Mozambique❤️🐘🎅🍼💐
The fearless work of Ms Lente Roode in creating the origins of Herd should never be forgotten and always honoured.
All the ellies have had such a heartbreaking start to life, so glad they have been able to forgive humans and now live under the care of the best of our species.
Beautiful Lundi is one of the herd whom i can easily recognize. (Maybe it'd be easier in person... or in elephant, in this case.) 😊❤
Grateful for these special 💓 stories whenever you get the chance to tell us.
Love to the Jabulani
HERD ~ and all of those who make their lives content, safe and thriving.
Thank you! Joysia! For your story on the elephants! They seem to love you vety much! Very happy holidays too you and your!
Thank you Joshua and Josiya. What Gentlemen they are! Had Joshua and his colleagues not brought what is now our Beloved original Herd to South Africa during those violent, dangerous times they would undoubtedly have been killed. Brave men. Thank God Mrs Roode took this family of Elephants in. Today, with the addition of orphans along the way, we have our solid family - The Jabulani Herd! Thank You to Adine and the Wonderful Carers! 💚🐘💚👏👏👏👏👏🙏
Hear, hear, Jan. Beautifully said. ❤️🐘❤️
@lesleyhook3472 Hello Lesley! How are you? Are you ready for Christmas?
I LOVE these chats Adine has with the Carers. It must have been a terrifying experience in Zimbabwe during those turbulent times. I'm so glad they all arrived safely in South Africa. I can't imagine life without HERD now!
Sending you Love and Best Wishes for Christmas and as a difficult and challenging year for so many draws to a close. Take Care Dear Friend 🎄🎁🌟🫂🧡🐘🌟
@@janparish7895 Hello Jan, dear. Thankfully, time heals most wounds 🙏 Indeed, today it is hard to put ourselves in the place of these very, very special people. Born survivors, both men and animals; they have endured incredible hardships, as we can only imagine. And be thankful that they have survived and we are able to do what we can to help them continue their journey; so very different to anything that we here in the U.K. can relate to. All ready in my corner, for a quiet Christmas; it will mostly be on FaceTime with family in New Zealand, Germany and the U.S. I will travel down, from the North West, Lancashire, to Buckinghamshire, to my sister’s, on the 27th and stay to see in the new year 🥳 Then, it’s counting down the days to my flight on February 28th, arriving in Hoedspruit, on March 1st. I am fortunate to have travelled all over the world, but this is going to be one very special trip for me; I’m expecting to see most of it through tears of sadness and joy, having learned what I have this past year. Apologies for my ‘wafflings’ dear lady. I wish you, and your brother, the most precious, warmest and loving of holidays over the festive season and may 2025 bless you both with infinite joy, limitless best health and sheer determination to make the most of life 🥳 It’s so true that we only have one shot at it! Bless you for loving the ellies; you are one of many ‘lights’ here on our precious planet; together, we will make a difference and we will save the world! We have The Universe behind us 🙏👍❤️🥰😘🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Darling Lundi, Brave, Beautiful Mama to Meisiekind Khanyisa. ❤️🩹🐘🐘💞 Thank You Joshha for telling Lundi's story 🙏🙏

Thank you for the interviews with your caregivers. They certainly have a deep love and respect for the ellies. It also shows their respect for Adine and HERD with their length of time they have been there!
My morning "fix" never fails me with new insights to HERD. It very heartening to hear of the individual ellies stories and the bond they all share together at HERD. You are all to be praised for your love and dedication to these ellies and HERD. Thank you!
They look so warm! It's only 2°F here tonight 🥶
Thank you Joseph for giving us some background on Lundi 🐘. Now I understand the bond she has with Tokwe 🐘 and Fishan 🐘.

Grazie per tutto quello che fate per i nostri ragazzi Italia❤️❤️❤️
Merry Christmas, everyone & thanks to everyone at HERD for taking such good care of these beautiful elephants we all love.🐘❤🎄✝
Many of the carers have been through such traumatic times with the elephants. How they managed to move them from Zimbabwe to south Africa is incredible, you can't just put them in the back of a car! Thank you Joshua and Joysia and all the brave carers. You sure have some guts! Thanks also to lovely Lundi who took little Khanyisa under her wing. I spotted those blonde tail hairs glowing in rhe sun!
Stories of "the time before" are interesting and give us a sense of how they all came together before Herd. The friendships they forged that continue to this day. You are so lucky to have the Zim men who were with the ellies and shared the journey. Bless you all.
I was listening to a podcast today that discussed the worsening famine situation in Zimbabwe and that the government has planned a massive cull of elephants, 83, plus zebra, impala, buffalo and I can't recall the final animal group but a total of 500 animals all together. It is for the purpose of providing meat to a starving population of humans but also because there is not enough food in the natural environment for the animals. I imagine that such a cull will, once again, leave many orphan elephants such as Lundi, Tokwe and the others. As an animal lover it grieves my heart for the loss of these magnificent creatures, especially the elephants as I know that they are very intelligent and will desperately try to save the younger elephants of their herd, but I don't want people to starve to death either! I heard this several months before as an option but apparently the situation has not improved and so now this has to take place. I wonder if I am the only one who is aware of this? I would love to know if HERD has any knowledge also? From country NSW Australia.
The big cull happened in Namibia, but Zimbabwe is also facing extraordinary drought conditions and doing it, as well.
There was no water for any crops which fed livestock: those were the first to go.
The people were not happy about eating these animals, fwiw, but when the alternative is - quite literally - death, the choice was clear.
So many deny the reality of climate change and, worse, the ways humans have brought it to these untenable levels.
Here's hoping the oligarchs don't win out.
In all honesty, I was only recently apprised that even being on YT/Google a lot is terrible for the environment. (The massive amounts of data stored and transmitted strains their data centers and has horrific carbon output.)
Seems we've all got a hand in it.
Michelle - meant to thank you, too, for your thoughtful post.
Fwiw, I also follow Aussie Ark and wish that their conservation protocols were followed in many other places.
I love Dingoes, too, and hope those folks can step in to make a difference for that most remarkable taxa of the canine species in your country.
May the light and joy of the season be with you and yours
✨️
@mortalclown3812 Namibia, you're right! I don't know why I mixed the 2 up, but I'm grateful for you righting my error! It's tragic all the same, and I fear it won't be the last! Africa is going through horrible times now! Thanks for your reply! Take care now.
Good morning Joshua
While these elephants have experienced real tragedy, they are also incredibly lucky to have not only survived, but thrived. They're not fully wild, for sure, but they're happy and doing what elephants are supposed to be doing. They have a herd, they have solid relationships with the other elephants in the herd and that's important. I think if not for the birth control, there would easily be more babies in this herd. Lundi and the others hit the jackpot when they landed at HERD. Well done to all the CARERS and Adine. Joshua, thank you for the update on Lundi and Josiya for telling us your story.
It is very comforting to know that Lundi, Tokwe, and Fishan were together through their travels.. Blessing to all who helped them reach their home..
🐘🐘🐘❤️
You got a crew helping with the elephants.👍
Thank You ❤I love to hear about their stories ❤❤
Awwwww
Such an informative video with Aidine and Owen
You saved their lives
Now they all have a beautiful safe haven❤❤❤
Blood doesn't make you Family, it's the Love that makes you Family❤
I see a lot Love ❤😊
Thank Owen for sharing Lundi is so beautiful sweet and kind i just love all of them and all the caregivers and Adine what a great job you are doing for them they are well taking care of and loved Happy Holidays and i love all of you 🎉😂😂😂❤❤❤
Thank you for sharing this story,,,,,,every time I hear the word “culling” I cringe 😢Tobey in Arizona, US 🌵🌞
That's good information about lundi ,fishan and tokwe thank you so much 😘
Joshua, it is interesting to hear the history of the HERD members. In the United States we will only see elephants confined to enclosures, likely bored. In fact, many humans here live our lives in various enclosures and will never see the horizons from the videos from HERD. It is wonderful to see the people that protect and sustain the land that is too often exploited for short term gains at the costs of so many human lives along with the natural resources and treasures
Now I understand better why Lundi often hangs back to keep Fishan company. Also it's nice to get to know more about Joshua and Josiya.
Enjoyed this video. It’s interesting to hear about the backgrounds of the elephants and the carers.
Thank you! I love hearing the back stories. What an amazing group of people Herd has! May you all be blessed.
Thank you Joshua and Josyia for telling us your stories about your past and the elephants, where they came from and why and what happened to them and their families. Culling is a very mean thing. Let us hope that better times will be here. It is very much appreciated that you honestly tell these stories. God bless you and the HERD team and all the elephants at HERD and in every country in Africa. ❤🐘
Culling is a cruel practice. Elephants are beautiful intelligent souls.
It is terrible. On the other hand, in the western US, it's beginning once more with bears and wolves, too, though they're vital to the ecosystems.
Meat-eaters are complicit since the ranchers' lobby is making this happen.
Tragically, in Namibia recently, due to the terrible drought, they recently culled almost 100 elephants + 30 hippos and 300 zebras to feed people who were literally starving to death.
Most people in the west can't imagine these circumstances: I am one such person. It's been years since I've had meat, but I realize that's impossible for many, based on locale, food availability, etc.
Unless we bring triage to our planet, it's going to get far worse. 💔
🌍🌿🐘🐑🐕🙏💙
thank you!
Good morning, Joshua!
Magnificent!! Thank you!
Thank you Joshua and Josiya. It's so interesting to learn about some of your personal history as well as the history with the elephants. I'm glad to know life for you is better now in SA. ❤❤❤
Adine, sometime could you give us an update on Fish's leg? Is it getting more bent from arthritis? He is such a strong willed boy!!!! ❤❤❤
Very good information about caregivers with ADINE THANK YOU ❤😂
Such a shame they all lost their mothers that way..😢..And even the carers had some bad times, but now they are all one family..❤❤🐘
Such hardships for people and elephants it is so wonderful that they have found the peace that is so important and safety. Adine my hat is off to you and your wonderful family for what you have accomplished. sending so much love to all of you at HERD!!! wish i could do more suzanne usa
HELLO TO EVERYONE . MERRY CHRISTMAS
What a great video….thank you Joshua. This question has probably been asked several times, but is Fishan in any pain? His stride is definitely slower since his injury. I’m just curious if he hurts. Thank you. ❤🐘
🙏❤️🐘
Fishan is a true juggernaut if it wasn't for the injury
Is Fishan OK? What is his present long term outlook?
I really enjoy hearing from the carers and seeing the lion was exciting!😮
Greetings to everyone from the USA !
Poor Fishan I feel so sorry for him, looks like it's hard for him to walk,he is such a sweet Elephant
I notice that Fishan’s wounded leg is always wet towards his ankle. Is it weeping or does it continue to be infected? Just worry cause it looks like it’s still painful and he’s so special.
Landing is a sweet wonderful leader of the Herd and a true Elephant Queen❤❤❤
My phone auto correct Lundi's name😢😢😢
Khanyisa è la piccola di casa❤
Would love to see an x-ray of Fishan's leg. Hopefully he is not in too much pain.
Thanks for telling us more about Lundi. I have a question: it looks like Fishan's left leg is loosing some of its flexibility. Is it because of his injury or just doing a lot of walking?
