  • For the first update of 2021 i wanted to show some ore wagons that I have recently weathered, along with the new loads that I have made for them. Together with recent track work on the Branch Line and the latest on my Folkestone harbour scene.
I hope you enjoy and subscribe

The fiddle yard looks a bit like a drunken spider made it!! The harbour will be a wonderful seaside or riverside section.

That track work was merely the placed, the actual track work of the day, makes mine so simple, cheers Paul

Your work on those wagons - amazing.
    Copydex - use of.
    Apply glue to both surfaces.
Let it set to near dry.
Join the two surfaces, and press together, it shouldn't need weights. Job done.
The important bit is letting it set before joining the two surfaces. And then waiting.
So, board to underlay - one session. Underlay to track - second session.
Explaining how to suck eggs to grandmothers, just another day!
Of course the great advantage to using Copydex for this part of the process is that it won't < unstick > when you come to ballast with PVA mix. Which may well happen. Oops. Of course if you change your mind, again, well…
The harbour is going to be brilliant.

Hi Paul-I always look forward to your updates and enjoyed this one . I too use the rust it products and I think they are very good I used it on a Hopper wagon and was pleased with the results but felt where I had exposed the paint the contrast was too big , but of course it needed weathering !! so thanks . Also I like your method for removable loads and watching the running shots it looks very realistic.
Finally I love the harbour scene and you can call me sad but I am excited about it s well.
All the best for 2021 and stay safe.....................Cheers Kev

Looking good Paul, looks like you've put in a huge amount of work over the Christmas period. Can't wait to see what you're going to do with the harbour. I'm in the middle of modeling a shunting puzzle for the grandkids, "if I ever get to see them again " its quite relaxing to do things like wagon loads etc it helps keep me from getting stuck in the building work and it keeps me fresh. As always I'm enjoying watching the progress. One of the first videos of yours I came across was when you were putting in a lift up section across the doorway just to get into your layout. And I've been following you ever since. Thanks for keeping us informed of the railway. Its brilliant to see it develop, I look forward to seeing it developing in the future. You and your family stay safe in these difficult times see you on the next one. Off the watch James now. Eddy xx

Always a pleasure to see another video from you Paul. I thought that cutting out the paper for the sea made a big difference and certainly helped view the entire area. Yes, I think getting the track laid has to come first as then its bit by bit for the scenics. My friend was trying to setup The Remembrance Line from Shorncliffe to Harbour Station but that collapsed so its rather nice that you will have a representation of what was once there. I noted the Not to Go hulks as you panned round and thought they looked sad but very realistic. My regards.

Thanks for showing how you did the wagon loads, I'd never thought of doing them that way so great tip. Look forward to seeing the next update happy new year Andy

Been watching your videos to catch up with your progress on sandling. I'm looking forward to seeing how things develop. Always nice seeing southern locomotives and emus.
You definitely made the right call with the engine shed and a new board, all the cutting you had done could well have compromised the long term stability, but you have a solid foundation now. Are you planning to have just diesel or emu too? The two wouldn't usually be mixed as when electrifying the lines new emu sheds were usually built. Also, if you have a 71 or other southern electric locomotive , they'd use their pantograph in sheds and goods yards as they deemed the 3rd rail too dangerous to be in those areas at the time, so you would often see overhead wiring, closer to tram style in such areas that the 71s would go to.
The harbour looks good, but I'm unsure whether you'll have success with the gradient to the main line. Eliminating the s bend would help significantly, as probably would flipping the whole harbour so you have more length for the climb. You may well have to use banking here.
I don't know if you have come across it, but you may find a lot of interesting information in the southern way magazines published by crecy publishing. If you Google you will be able to find a index for the articles, i am sure your areas have been covered a few times.
I've rambled enough though. Happy modelling and hope to see more soon. Stay safe.

    Nice update on your build.
Particularly interested in your Harbour assembly and build.
What will be the height difference between sea levels and quayside.
Any particular plans for the type of boats/ships you going to use.
Scale OO bolts are quite scarce.
My quayside is nearly 8ft long and presently building Scalescene Ships and Fishing boats.
Plus the obligatory Airfix Lifeboat, not quite to scale but looks good.

Nice work Paul. It doesn't look as if there is room for crossovers at the lighthouse end of the station, so how about a sector plate so that locos can be released to run around their trains?

Hi Paul useful tips with making loads and love the rusting effect on your wagons. Looking forward to your next update on your harbour, will there be any passengers getting off onto ferries (I could only see freight in the sidings). Will there be in a later video of perhaps shipping using the pier? I worked out of Folkestone harbour on British Rail Sealink ferries in 1972/3..
