Something important that goes along with step #4 is that if you do pay with cash, you gotta make sure that you KNOW your car (how many gallons does the car hold), you have to do correct calculations to figure out exactly how much money will fill up the tank. Make sure you dont not give more money, you might over fill your tank and gas will spill out. !Fuel Grade/Octane Rating is VERY important! Hello, this is your friendly new mechanic friend here. I thought this was a great video. I am especially happy that you warned against "Topping Off", and explained how to know what Fuel Grade (Octane Rating to use). Though I would like to add that High Octane fuel is becoming more common place, even with more basic/economical cars. Things like Turbo & Super Chargers are being used to increase economy & reduce emissions, and with those High Test/High Octane fuel is required. Just to elaborate a little, the importance of using the correct fuel for a car is that it effects the emissions. It also helps with fuel economy & reduces repairs (The dreaded Check Engine Light). Those are just happy coincidences to the main focus, which again is - Emissions. As mentioned, you can find this information in the owners manual, but a person can also call the dealership, or maybe even send a direct message to the manufacturer of the car. Also, the main reason "Topping Off" is bad, is also an emissions issue, but can also cause excessive, hard to diagnose repairs. So, seriously people, please listen to the advice in this video. Don't "Top Off" & use the correct fuel. If anyone has read all of this, I hope it helps. I will be happy to answer questions in replies to this comment. Cheers.
I remember when I got my first car (a 2007 camry) and had to pump gas in it before I went to work, but I didn't know how! So I looked it up and this video popped up and I was so excited because I was already a fan of her, Colleen, and Kory. I watched it and it gave me the confidence to do it! Thanks again Rachel!
Thank you! I have lived in NJ all my life but am moving to Florida. Pumping my own gas has been worrying me, but your video made me believe I can do this! I so appreciate it!😊
Thank you for making this video! When I first started driving I was too scared to get my own gas because I felt like I should know how to do it, but I didn't know how to do it. And for months I just had my mom take my car to the gas station for me, until my dad drove me to the gas station and made me figure out how to do it myself lol I also want to add a last step. For some cars, after you finish pumping gas, there's a little button on your dashboard that you have to press to reset the fuel gauge :)
Thank you so much for this, my parents don’t teach me anything about life and then I’m shamed for not knowing, this video helped me a ton, your an angel!
thank you very much this helped a lot!! since i got my license a year and a half ago, i’ve gotten gas only twice with help but this is the first time i did it alone all bc i watched your video :) you laid this out simply yet informatively!
Cant believe things like pumping our own gas, how to buy a house, credit, important things like this arent taught in school smh and instead we learn how to calculate how many apples timmy has left🙄
I've been driving for about 34 years. I always used the full service gas stations. With the covid-lockdown, the gas attendants are off. I need to gas my own car. I felt so foolish googling UA-cam for video demonstrations. Thanks.
Thank you for this video! I just got my license yesterday and had a vague idea but no clue how its actually done. Its really appreciated especially for people with disabilities like me !
POV: a week ago I looked up how to do this, watched this video and went on my way, determined. I got there and was baffled as to why my card wasn't working, pulled out the pump and saw it wasn't even long enough to reach the port cuz i sucked at parking next to it, put the pump back, and drove away cuz i felt I was about to cry. I went to another wawa (gas station in the north east) to get food after I drove away from the first one. Then when I tried to pay for my food I realized the reason the card wasn't working was because I was trying to pay for gas with my debit card that has 2 dollars on it and not the wawa gas card from my parents...
I’m from Oregon and just moved to Colorado, I know this was made for years ago, but thank you so much I feel a bit better about getting gas..by myself...today..
1.) Which side is your gas tank? 2.) TURN OFF YOUR CAR!!!! 3.) Open gas tank door and gas cap 4.) Payment 5.) Put handle/nozzle in the car 6.) Select gas grade (type of gas - DO NOT PUT DIESEL IN A NON-DIESEL CAR) 7.) Pump the gas (Some handles have level locks that hold it for you.) 8.) Remove handle/nozzle from car and back into the machine (DO NOT TOP OFF YOUR GAS TANK - TRY TO GET MORE AFTER GAS STOPS FLOWING.) 9.) Put gas cap back on and close your gas tank door 10.) Get your receipt
On your dash, there will be a little gas pump symbol with an arrow either facing left or right, the direction it points is the direction your gas hole is.

Thankyou,i should now be able to gas my car
your gas gauge has an arrow and it points to the side the gas tank filler neck is on. you MUST turn your car off. before stepping out of the car, TOUCH THE METAL!! ground yourself. most gas fires happen because a spark from your hand ignited the gas. the rest is correct.
None of the dars I've driven have the arrow that say which side the filler neck is on. Now I'm curious to see it lol. (I know it's just an arrow, but I guess I'm easily amused).
it;s usually a white arrow on your gas gauge. most, if not all cars, have them. take a look and let me know. thatonedude, what car do you own? year make and model please. thank you
Okay, just checked both cars. My mothers 2005 Toyota 4Runner DOES have it, I just must have missed it all these years. My 1998 Saturn SL2, however, does NOT have it. Interesting.
Here in California, a full (18 gallon) tank is going to run you about $45 right now (about $2.30-$2.85/gal). We're also feeling very lucky this year. Usually it costs about $4.20 a gallon during the summer months into the fall, and about $60-$70 for a full tank.

Schools should teach all these things you teach us, you are a big help for all of us young kids learning how to do this stuff, you are a better school than actual school. Have a nice day.
"A lot of you are about to start driving!"
Me: 22 year old, lives on there own, and has been driving for six years.
Opps.
This should be popular in Oregon now.
Why? We don’t pump our own gas lmao?
And NJ
I just got my license at 24 and have had so much anxiety with filling my gas because it seems that everyone is so impatient these days and don’t like people not knowing how to do something so I’ve always waited until my boyfriend was in the car but he’s working today so I was like I need to do this so I searched it up on UA-cam and this was the first video hahaha I’ve been watching Rachel and the fam for years but somehow never saw this video and even if I did I wouldn’t have clicked it because I didn’t need to know how to pump gas hahaha anyways long story short I DID IT!! Yay😂
I literally went the other day after watching this video but I still managed to f it up 😭😭 ima try again today so hopefully i also get to finally pump my own gas 🙏
I have social anxiety and agoraphobia, I’m about to get my license and I really appreciate this video! ❤My single mom never taught me to drive, let alone pump gas 😅
Cheers.
I'm 32. I've been driving since I was 16. I still watched this whole video 😂😂😂
who else just started driving
Can you teach us how to make a thumbnail for how to edit

I remember when I got my first car (a 2007 camry) and had to pump gas in it before I went to work, but I didn't know how! So I looked it up and this video popped up and I was so excited because I was already a fan of her, Colleen, and Kory. I watched it and it gave me the confidence to do it! Thanks again Rachel!
Thank you! I have lived in NJ all my life but am moving to Florida. Pumping my own gas has been worrying me, but your video made me believe I can do this! I so appreciate it!😊
At 41 I just pumped my own gas today! Thanks for the vid. Glad to know I’m not the only one having a panic attack 😂
Thank you for making this video! When I first started driving I was too scared to get my own gas because I felt like I should know how to do it, but I didn't know how to do it. And for months I just had my mom take my car to the gas station for me, until my dad drove me to the gas station and made me figure out how to do it myself lol
I also want to add a last step. For some cars, after you finish pumping gas, there's a little button on your dashboard that you have to press to reset the fuel gauge :)
Hello Rachel and comment section!👋🏻
Hi
KK PB heglo
KK PB hi
Hello
👋🏻
Thank you! We assume folks know how to do this, but have any of us actually taught the skill? A+
God bless you, Thanks God you did this. Just got my first car and don't know how to do that. Bunches of thanks!
I'm from New Jersey so thank you for this video😂😂
Same. And I just moved to Florida
Hahah I’m watching this 3 years later i just started driving no one has ever showed me but this helped a lot thank you
Thank you so much for this, my parents don’t teach me anything about life and then I’m shamed for not knowing, this video helped me a ton, your an angel!
I'm like 5 years away from driving but it's better to learn it early! And I am just having a Rachel marathon tonight❤️😂
Honestly this video is important for everyone who doesn’t know about filling up gas ⛽️
Very very helpful for new drivers. Thank you
Quick tip on the gas pump logo on the dashboard there's a arrow on Wich side the gas door is on
These videos help prepare me for the real world more than school does.
thank you very much this helped a lot!! since i got my license a year and a half ago, i’ve gotten gas only twice with help but this is the first time i did it alone all bc i watched your video :) you laid this out simply yet informatively!
"And that is where you put things" Best line yet.
Cant believe things like pumping our own gas, how to buy a house, credit, important things like this arent taught in school smh and instead we learn how to calculate how many apples timmy has left🙄
"Nope, don't need the receipt that bad!" That's exactly what I say when that happens haha.
Just got out of a 10 year relationship where he would do everything, you dont know how much this helps🥺😥
Ok I didn't realize I've been topping off my tank all this time and now i feel like an idiot 😂 the car has prob been like staaahhp
I know this is gonna get lost in the comments but when I'm home alone I like to lay on the floor like a crumb
Oh, nice to know
Nice now when I lay on the ground I will act like crumb
I don't think this is original :/
I've seen this before
POV: a week ago I looked up how to do this, watched this video and went on my way, determined.
I am 25. Been pumping my own gas since I was 16. And I am still here bc I love Rachel and she’s so fun to watch and listen to.
I’m from Oregon and just moved to Colorado, I know this was made for years ago, but thank you so much I feel a bit better about getting gas..by myself...today..
1.) Which side is your gas tank?
2.) TURN OFF YOUR CAR!!!!
3.) Open gas tank door and gas cap
4.) Payment
5.) Put handle/nozzle in the car
6.) Select gas grade (type of gas - DO NOT PUT DIESEL IN A NON-DIESEL CAR)
7.) Pump the gas (Some handles have level locks that hold it for you.)
8.) Remove handle/nozzle from car and back into the machine (DO NOT TOP OFF YOUR GAS TANK - TRY TO GET MORE AFTER GAS STOPS FLOWING.)
9.) Put gas cap back on and close your gas tank door
10.) Get your receipt
i actually needed this thank u🙏
On your dash, there will be a little gas pump symbol with an arrow either facing left or right, the direction it points is the direction your gas hole is.
Due COVID-19 couldnt ask any body to escort me. Just got a license, was running out of gas till i found bless you!
Before we start judging & remarking take a moment to think like this young lady....not all of us know everything !
One thing that the world needs is kindness!
Thankyou,i should now be able to gas my car
Thank you!!!
I got my license 2 years ago but I never drive so now I'm sitting in a parking lot out of gas w you teaching me what to do. 😂
Honestly, if Rachel was my teacher I would have more fun learning and would love to go to school 😌😩😍
I have an electric car but I watched this anyway
Hipster....

THANK YOU RACHEL! I MEAN PROFESSOR RACHEL! ❤️👍😊
"And that's where you put thing's." 😂
Bless your soul i literally wasnt sure how to do this and im glad this video isnt like ten minutes long
your gas gauge has an arrow and it points to the side the gas tank filler neck is on. you MUST turn your car off. before stepping out of the car, TOUCH THE METAL!! ground yourself. most gas fires happen because a spark from your hand ignited the gas. the rest is correct.
Frank Marzegliano she said you have to turn the engine off....
thank you, i hit the comment button before i heard it. my bad
I just pumped gas lol it was literally $35 IM BROKE HELP
Lindsay Mohrmann
Just drive away
TwiggyTigga you have to pre-pay lol
Here in California, a full (18 gallon) tank is going to run you about $45 right now (about $2.30-$2.85/gal). We're also feeling very lucky this year. Usually it costs about $4.20 a gallon during the summer months into the fall, and about $60-$70 for a full tank.
ThatOneDude822 Yeah in the summer it's much more in Illinois, but not that much, HOLY POOP that's a lot
in saudi arabia the most expensive car is 13 dollars the gas here in my country is cheap af 😂
I'm a New Jerseyan and so I have no idea how to pump my own gas
I love all her videos and I never like them but at the end when she says to do it I'm like I'll do it on another video and then when she says all the FREAKEN stuff it gets my attentions and I press it immediately 😂😂
Glad I ran across this. Learned to drive while living in Oregon so didn't know how to pump gas. But now we are moving to Idaho and I have to learn.😂
American petrol stations are so much different to our British ones!❤️
I’ve been pumping gas for a long time I don’t know why I watched this but I did
Same. I don't even remember learning how to pump gas.
I just got a car (yay) and I dont know know shit about it, this helps alot!
Thank you so much for this. I'm going on my first real road trip from my home in NJ and didn't want to make a fool of myself out there!
Tbh, I learn more on Sundays when Rachel always teaches us something, then at school..😂
